Ambient Lighting

Also known as general lighting, ambient lighting is one of the most common
and popular types of lighting, and for good reason. It is used to create a soft
glow throughout your space so that you have the light that you need in your
home or office. It is generally a very soft light so that you do not have to deal
with any glares in your home. It is important to make sure that your room is
evenly lit, and ambient light is perfect for that.

While it will not make it easy for you to focus closely on a task that you are
working on or to see the fine print, ambient lighting is important to illuminate
a room so that you can safely find your way through space. It is normal for
people to start illuminating their space with ambient lighting and then to add
additional lighting as they see fit, as this ensures that they can see what they
are doing and that they are able to create the right atmosphere in their home
or office.

Task Lighting

Once you have enough ambient light in your space that you can easily see and
move around your room, you will want to add task lighting so that you can
focus on work. This is a much smaller and more concentrated source of light
and will often be adjusted so that it is shining right on the project you are
working on so that you can easily see it. Task lighting is ideal in an office, if
you are going to be reading or writing, or if you are working on a handicraft,
such as sewing.

It is a good idea to make sure that you choose task lighting that will be a
contrasting light to the ambient light in your room. While you may think that
brighter is better in both cases, task lighting works best when the ambient
lighting is softer and the task lighting is brighter. This will result in much less
glare and make it easier for you to see what you are working on without
hurting your eyes.

Accent Lighting

When you want to have incredibly concentrated light in your space so that
you can draw someone’s attention to a specific area of your room, then you
need to make sure that you invest in accent lighting. This great way to add
drama to your home and to highlight a specific area whether is an
architectural detail or a piece of art. You will be able to cast a light on a
specific area, illuminating it, while also creating shadows in other areas of your
room, which will result in a very dramatic effect.

Accent lighting can be used both indoors and outdoors, and when used
outside, it can be a great way to highlight areas of your home or your garden
that you are particularly proud of. When you use accent lighting correctly, you
will be able to make a certain part of your home feel a lot more important
than other parts of your space, and this will draw attention and focus from
others.
TYPES OF INDOOR LIGHT FIXTURES IN PAKISTAN
There is an enormous variety available in the market when we consider indoor light
fixtures in Pakistan. The range of fixtures include:

 Chandeliers

 Ceiling Lights

 Pendant Lighting

 Track Lighting

 Tube Lights

 Under-Cabinet Lighting

 Recessed Lighting

 Floor Lamps

 Wall Sconces

 Desk Lamps

 Table Lamps

CHANDELIERS
Give a Formal Look to Your Space with a Chandelier
Chandeliers are one of the most common types of light fixtures in Pakistani homes and
are primarily used in drawing rooms and formal seating areas. Chandeliers are typically
preferred for these rooms since they add to the grandeur of the room and its ambience.
Housing anywhere between 5 to 10 bulbs, chandeliers can be made of a combination of
chrome, glass, plastic, crystals, and a range of other materials. Chandeliers add to the
‘wow’ factor of a room but are only ideal for large and spacious rooms with high ceilings.
They are also used for more traditional interiors, and are thus, less frequently used in
modern homes.

CEILING LIGHTS

Ceiling lights are installed directly onto the ceiling, with a shade of glass or plastic
covering the bulb to diffuse the light. While ceiling lights have been around forever, they
have never really gone out of fashion. However, they can be challenging to install on
considerably high ceilings. The convenience these lights offer is one reason why they are
perfect for all areas of the home that witness high traffic, such as hallways, living areas,
and even kitchens and bathrooms.

PENDANT LIGHTING
Pendant Lighting is Ideal for Kitchens
Suspended from the ceiling via wires or rope, pendants are like orbs of lights floating
above a flat surface, usually a countertop, kitchen island, or a dining table. Glass,
metallic, and even wooden pendant lighting can be readily found in the market. The
purpose of pendants is to focus the light downward onto the surface that requires
illumination for precision work.

TRACK LIGHTING

Used primarily for decoration, this type of indoor lighting fixture contains a series of
heads, each with its own bulb, with all of them being connected together on the same
track. The direction of the heads, however, is adjustable to about 180 degrees, parallel to
the ceiling. Track lighting is ideal if you want to throw lights on specific pieces of art or
decoration along a wall.

TUBE LIGHTS
Tube Lights Offer a Long Life and are Easy to Replace
While not the most energy-efficient, tube lights are the most used among all the indoor
light fixtures in Pakistan. Fluorescent lights, fitted into special holders on the wall, offer a
brighter interior than most energy-efficient bulbs and LEDs. Since changing a tube light in
case of a fuse is also quite easy, with no change of the fixture being needed, it is a
popular light fixture for most homeowners. Besides going for traditional tube lights, you
can opt for special LED lights with the same form and functionality to lower your bills and
increase the illumination in your home.

UNDER-CABINET LIGHTING

Installed under the kitchen cabinets to offer a direct source of light for all the cooking
tasks you perform on the countertop, this type of light fixture is quite aptly named. While
it can employ a style similar to track lighting, but generally, individual fixtures are added
under each cabinet.

RECESSED LIGHTING
Recessed Lighting Also Includes Spotlights Installed Into the Ceiling
Mostly used alongside false ceilings to design a particular ambience for a room, recessed
lighting is named so because it is located in recesses within the roof or even the floor.
Nearly 6 inches of space is required to install these lights into the surface, and once
added, they can give a unique glow to the room. The dim effect of recessed lighting
creates a mood and, therefore, it is perfect for bedrooms and home theatres. You can
also choose to place these on the floor to illuminate your staircase.

FLOOR LAMPS

Less frequently used in comparison to the above light fixtures that get installed into the
ceiling of a room, floor lamps are mobile sources of light that can brighten up dark
corners perfectly. Considered fancier as well as more fragile than many of the other lights
on this list, they are mainly used in modern interiors and for formal seating areas, since
these are not the most kid-friendly alternative.

WALL SCONCES
Wall Sconces Offer Versatility in Terms of Design
Most Pakistani homes install lights into their ceilings or their walls, and this is where wall
sconces play a major role. Available in modern, traditional, wooden, metallic, and glass
finishes, there is very little that you cannot find when you search the market for that
perfect light fixture for your wall. With energy-saving bulbs being all the rage, it has even
become less costly to turn on a wall sconce in favor of a tube light. Wall sconces can
throw light upwards or downwards and are available in both varieties. They can easily be
placed on bedroom walls, above bathroom mirrors, and as spotlights in the central living
space.

TABLE LAMPS
Table Lamps are Ideal for Formal and Elegant Settings
Having read the above, you might wonder about the difference between desk lamps and
table lamps since both are placed on top of a surface and used for almost the same
purposes. Well, the difference is in the functionality and the ambience they create. While
desk lamps are perfect for your home office or your child’s study table, you cannot place
those same lamps on a table in your drawing room. This is where the difference comes
in. Table lamps are more formal and fancier and are mostly placed on side tables in
areas of the house where you would formally entertain your guests.

We have now listed all the types of indoor light fixtures that are available for use in your
home. Make your choice based on the style of your interior, the functionality of the light
fixture, and the amount of direct or indirect light you want in a room.
