The key takeaways are that practicums are important for architecture students to gain real-world experience and practical skills. It helps bridge the gap between theory and practice.

The author aimed to fulfill all the objectives they had set out at the start of their practicum period, which was to gain real-life knowledge and skills from working in an office.

The author worked on projects like Savitri Rai's Residence, Chapagaun Lama School, and Mother Earth during their practicum.

PRACTICUM REPORT

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I am very grateful to all the people who recommended me to join this
NARENDRA PRADHAN AND ASSOCIATES Old Baneswor, Kathmandu as a
part of my practicum. First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to
the Sir Ar. Narendra Pradhan for allowing me to work as a trainee for the whole of
the practicum period.

Most of all, I would like to thank sir Ar. Narendra Pradhan and Er. Susil Ghimire
for his continuous support and guidance throughout my time in this office. Without
his knowledge and suggestions my practicum would not have as productive and
fruitful as it has been. I am also thankful to Ar. Jasmine Shrestha , for her co-
ordination and help. Credit also to all the staff, intern friends and all the people
who have directly and indirectly helped me during this time of practicum.

Finally I would like to express my hearty appreciation to whole of the

Department of Architecture of Nepal Engineering College for providing us this
opportunity for having this 90 days of practicum. This practicum has been a great
way of gaining first-hand knowledge and experience of the practical aspect of the
architecture curriculum and also developing our professional skills. I would also
like to express my profound gratitude to Ar. Anil kumar Regmi, our internship
supervisor, for his visits to our office and his guidance during this internship
period.

PRACTICUM REPORT

PREFACE
The chance to sharpen their professional skills, improve their analyzing Practicum
is a vital part of any kind of study. Especially in architecture field, it is as
important for the students to see how construction functions and its various facets
as it is to theoretically learn how they function. Internship/ practicum also give
students process and develop their practicality. Thus, a semester dedicated for this
purpose plays an important role in shaping up an architect from a student. This
report is an integral element of the Practicum period as per the syllabus of Pokhara
University for Bachelor of Architecture which is done in fourth year, second part.
This report is a record of all the works done by me and all the projects I have been
involved in, as a trainee in Narendra Pradhan and associates.

From construction drawings to 3D drawings to presentations, have been

documented properly with brief evaluation of my part in the project and my
learning from it. Also in this report, are included the briefings of every proposed
site visits and construction site visits that have helped to broaden my knowledge
base.

PRACTICUM REPORT

BACKGROUND
In these modern times, academic teachings and learning is not enough to make
students capable of competing with confidence and self- assurance without letting
them experience with genuine real world related applications, especially in the
practice of architecture which is as much theory as it is practical. Students will not
be able visualize their projects in reality and the impacts of their projects unless
they know how construction takes place in the real world and what type of
engineering and professional problems they might encounter during completion of
their project. This is why internship is vitally important to gain experience and
knowledge.

For this purpose the curriculum of Bachelor of Architecture dedicates a period of a

semester for training students to be an architect. In this period the students are
allowed to assist architects and other professionals in a firm or department thus
letting them come to grips with the reality of architecture as a profession.
Practicum involves not only drawing in autoCAD and sketchup, etc but it also
involves realizing the designs in reality by going to proposed sites and construction
sites.

Thus the period of practicum helps students become better analyzers, be more
confident in their own designs and also become more resourceful. They also learn
about co- ordination and team work and interacting more actively with everybody
involved in the project by working with various types of professionals.

coordinate with various other professionals required for the completion of a
project and also with the clients.
 To learn about the organizational, legal and management processes involved
in a project.
 To analyze the various constructional and engineering as well as other
problems that we encounter in the process of designing and learn to
overcome them.
 To learn to become a complete and proper professional by learning to fulfill
our responsibilities and duties.
 To learn about the hardship that comes along with working in the field of

CONCLUSION
Practicum period for an architect student is a major part of his/ her learning. It
bridges the gap between theoretically learning at schools and colleges to practically
working out in field, office and firm. It helps student to understand the process of

architecture in real world and the problems and hardships posed when working. It
also allows the student to learn to tackle these problems by analyzing them
properly. It helps the students to develop the required skills and boost their
confidence and sense of responsibility and duty.

This practicum has been a tremendous experience for me. I have fulfilled all the
objectives I had set out during the starting of the semester. I have gained real- life
knowledge and skills from working in an office. I am very grateful to everybody at
NARENDRA PRADHAN AND ASSOCIATES and at my college, who let me
have this amazing opportunity of learning. Gaining knowledge and learning skills
from the professionals and people who have been doing this for a very long time
was one of the most valuable lessons I have learnt. My planning and designing
techniques have improved likewise. This practicum period has also helped me
develop me as a professional and improved my social skills, making me more
confident in myself and my work. It has also taught me to not only be practical but
also realistic about what I aim for through my work. This period has let be
understand the constraints of this field and the hardships which architects have to
face while working. In brief, this is my first step to becoming a professional and
the experience was worth all the hardships and the effort.

THANK YOU!
