Ban Policy: Why Is My Account Game Banned?
Northwood Studios Global Moderation Team is tasked with the responsibility of preventing and
detecting the use of third-party tools or game files modifications in SCP: Secret Laboratory that
are designed and used to grant players an unfair in-game advantage. When the Northwood
Studios Global Moderation Team flags an account for cheating, Northwood Studios Global
Moderation Team may subsequently decide to ban the account from playing SCP: Secret
Laboratory again.
To ensure your account does not get banned, use only trusted machines to play on verified
servers. If you are not sure whether or not the machine you are using to play SCP: Secret
Laboratory may have cheats installed, do not play on verified servers.
Use caution when installing any game modifications like scripts, and only download custom
content from trusted sources. Hackers may maliciously disguise their cheats to cause others to
get banned. For Northwood Studios, the usage of any third-party tools or game files
modifications designed to provide an unfair advantage in the game are explicitly considered
cheating.
Never share your account or give out your password to anyone. Your Family Sharing privileges
will be revoked and your account will be banned if your library is used by others to cheat. We
recommend you only authorize Steam Accounts and computers you know to be secure.
When will my ban be removed?
The Northwood Studios Global Moderation Team (as well as Valve) has a zero-tolerance policy
for cheating on SCP: Secret Laboratory and any resulting account bans are permanent. Should
the ban be temporary, you will be informed of the unban time when receiving the initial
information about your account ban.
Neither Northwood Studios nor Valve will lift your account bans on request. While we
understand this can be frustrating, we must maintain a zero-tolerance policy for cheating in
order to foster a fair game that all players can enjoy equally.
When cheating is detected on an account, the ban may be applied right away or after some
period of time. An account does not need to be online for the ban to be issued on the account.
Anyone owning a gaming account is responsible for its safety. Regardless of who was using
your account when the cheating occurred, the ban will not be removed.
When using Steam, please see the Account Security Recommendations to secure your account
from attackers.
Being banned from SCP: Secret Laboratory will result in a Game Ban status being added to
your Steam profile. This has the same impact as a VAC ban status. You can still register and
purchase new games on a Game Banned account. Visit the Steam pages for more information
regarding a Game Ban.
Unfortunately, once receiving the game ban you are revoked the privileges of playing on verified
servers. You can still play on private servers that aren’t verified and have global bans and VAC
disabled.
Exploit Policy
An exploit is the use of vulnerabilities or weaknesses in the game’s code by a player to disturb
gameplay or a servers’ functioning. You must notify Northwood Studios staff about any
discovered exploits. Using exploits will result in a temporary or permanent global ban.
Griefing, harassing, and raiding community servers are prohibited in our game. Those actions or
any other violations of game platforms' agreement may result in a temporary or permanent
global ban.
We do not disclose the cheats that were detected while connected to a verified server that
resulted in an account ban. We have detailed records for each cheat detection, however,
releasing this information would only benefit cheat developers. However, you can send us a ban
appeal and request an investigation on your account ban. Ban appeals should be sent sooner
than 14 days from issuing the ban. We reserve the right to not process appeals sent later. The
Northwood Studios Global Moderation Manager will investigate each claim of false cheat
detections to guarantee the accuracy of each decision taken by the Northwood Studios Global
Moderation Team.
