Independent Learning 1.2 Elements of Fiction (20 points)

Direction: Read the story of Biag ni Lam-ang using the link given and write its elements of
fiction. Write your answer on the space below.

A. Characters
● Don Juan and his wife Namongan - The parents of Lam-ang
● Lam-ang - the protagonist in the epic. The one who seek revenge for the death of his
father in the arms of their Igorot enemies.
● Sumarang - the enemy of Lam-ang and one of the suitor of Ines.
● Ines Kannoyan - a young woman whom Lam-ang wanted to woo amd later on become
his beloved wife.
● Lam-ang's rooster - caused a nearby house to fall just by crowing during Lam-ang's visit
to Ines.
● Lam-ang's gray dog - caused the house rose up again just by barking during Lam-ang's
visit to Ines.
● Marcos - the one who accompanied Ines to get Lam-ang's bones from the river
● Berkakan - the water monster who caused the death of Lam-ang
● Rarang fish - what Lam-ang is looking for as part of the traditional for newly married
man.

● The story takes place somewhere in La Union in the northern part of the Philippines,
where Lam-ang's parents live and where Lam-ang grew up.

E. Point of View
● The point of view of the epic entitled "BIAG NI LAM-ANG", is a kind of a Third person
POV. Someone narrates the story of the bravery of Lam-ang.

F. Theme
● The theme of the epic revolves around the love/longing of a son to his lost father,
bravery and courage of the main character portrayed by Lam-ang in searched for his
father and later on showing bravery to his lover, who(Lam-ang) was gifted with speech
as early as his day of birth, who embarked on a series of adventures which culminated in
his heroic death and subsequent resurrection.
