Lesson 1 “EXPLORING BEAT”
I. Introduction:
Look at the picture.
Who is this person in your community?
Show the actions of a policeman.
Sing the song, “May Pulis sa Ilalim ng Tulay.”
What actions of a policeman did you show? Did you salute, march, run, or whistle?
You moved to the beat of the music as you sang the song and do the actions of a
policeman.
II. Objectives:
Sing the given songs and show the beat by passing a ball steadily
Sing the song ‘’May Pulis Sa Ilalim ng Tulay” and do the actions of a policeman

III. Lesson Proper:
What is beat? A beat is the pulse in music. It is like your heartbeat that moves
steadily. Beats can be felt, heard or both.
In music, beat is very important. One must learn to hear it, feel it and move to it.
Sing “Tong Pakitong.’’

Alimango sa dagat, malaki at masarap
Kay hirap mahuli, sapagkat nangangagat!
Steady beat is a repetitive pulse that you can feel in songs, chants and rhymes. It
makes you want to stamp your feet, clap your hands, and tap your lap when you hear
music. There is musical element related to beat. It is called rhythm. Rhythm is the
regular repetition of a sound pattern.
