ASSIGNMENT 3
Exercise 3.0

1. The following data is a frequency of salesclerk applicants for 7-day

period in a particular company: 55, 23, 45, 22, 33, 51, and 25. Find the
mean, median, and mode.

MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY

MEAN 36.28571
MEDIAN 33
MODE None

MEAN: ∑ X÷ N
Where:

X= Raw Data

Ʃ= Sigma; the sum of all items

N/n= Number of cases

Solution:

Mean= (55 + 23 + 45+ 22 + 33 + 51 + 25) ÷ 7

= 254 ÷ 7

Mean= 36.28571

MEDIAN: (n + 1) / 2

Solution:

22, 23, 25, 33, 45, 51, 55

= (7 + 1) / 2

= 8 / 2

Median Position= 4

22, 23, 25, 33, 45, 51, 55

4th

Therefore, the Median is 33.

MODE: The data that appears more often.

There is no mode since no data appears more often than the others.
2. An owner of a certain company obtained 4 kinds of loan from 4 commercial
banks at a different interest rate, P150, 000 at 11.5% and P75, 000 at
17%, P100, 000 at 12% and P135, 500 at 13% per annum. What is the mean?

MEAN
(150,000∗11.45 %)+(75,000∗17 % )+(100,000∗12% )+(135,500∗13 %)
=
53.45 %
= 59,475 ÷ 53.45%
= P 111,272.217

3. The following data is the Year-on-Year Inflation Rates in the Philippines.

All items for January 2015- November 2016. Find the Mean, Median, and
Modal of inflation rate for the year 2016.

2015 2016
January 2.4 1.3
February 2.5 0.9
March 2.4 1.1
April 2.2 1.1
May 1.6 1.6
June 1.2 1.9
July 0.8 1.9
August 0.6 1.8
September 0.4 2.3
October 0.4 2.3
November 1.1 2.5
December 1.5

Philippines

MASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY: INFLATION RATE FOR THE YEAR 2016

MEAN 1.7
MEDIAN 1.8
MODE 1.1, 1.9, 2.3

SOLUTION:
MEAN
= (1.3 + 0.9 + 1.1 + 1.1 + 1.6 + 1.9 + 1.9 + 1.8 + 2.3 + 2.3 + 2.5)/11
= 18.7/ 11
= 1.7

MEDIAN

= (11 + 1)/2
= 6th Place
0.9 1.1 1.1 1.3 1.6 1.8 1.9 1.9 2.3 2.3 2.5
6th

MODE: The date that appears more often.

Thus, the modes are 1.1, 1.9, and 2.3 since they appeared more often than
the others.
EXERCISE 3.1
The following data are the number of active covid19 patients recorded from
different hospitals in Region A.

HOSPITAL NUMBER OF ACTIVE

A 12
B 10
C 8
D 13
E 12
F 15
G 20
Table 1: Summary of Active Covid19 Patients of various Hospitals in Region A.

COMPUTE THE FOLLOWING AND INTERPRET:

MEASURE OF VARIATION INTERPRETATION

RANGE 12 This indicates that
the data is more
scattered.
INTERQUARTILE RANGE (IQR) 5 The maximum difference
in the number of
active covid19
patients in different
hospitals in Region A
is 5 patients.
SEMI-INTERQUARTILE RANGE 2.5 This indicates the
(SIQR) distance of the data
from the mean. Hence,
the distance of the
number of active
patients from the mean
is 2.5 units semi-
interquartile range.
VARIANCE 14.81 This indicates that
the average squared
distance of all the
active patients in
different hospitals of
Region A from the mean
of 12.86 is 14.81
units variance. Hence,
the sample is spread
out.
STANDARD DEVIATION 3.85 This indicates that
the average distance
of all the active
patients in different
hospitals in Region A
from the mean of 12.86
is 3.85 units standard
deviation.
COEFFICIENT OF VARIATION 29.94% This indicates that
the number of active
cases in different
hospitals in Region A
is 27.68% scattered or
spread out.
COEFFICIENT OF SKEWNESS 0.67 Since the coefficient
of skewness is greater
than zero, the number
of actives cases in
different hospitals of
Region A is positively
skewed. Hence, there
are lots of low
numbers of covid19
active cases.
