analog temperature controls (Ref. 21-60).

minimum crew work load. The figure ″AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM - OPERATION″ shows the
relationship between the main subsystems.
COOLING (21-50)
The cooling system receives hot bleed air from the engines or APU
(Ref. 36-00) and supplies cooled air to the distribution system (Ref.
21-20).
OPERATION
Two Environmental Control Units (ECU’s) control the cooling and/or
heating effects in the pressurized environment. The pneumatic system
(Ref. 36-00) or a ground support equipment supplies pneumatic power
to the system.

CAUTION: DO NOT SET THE TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER KNOB IN FULL HOT POSI-
TION DURING THIS PROCEDURE. A THERMAL SHOCK CAN CAUSE DAMAGE
TO THE INTERIOR FINISHING.
NOTE: 1. A difference in the temperature indication of the cockpit and that of the
passenger cabin can occur because of the sensor position. If it occurs, use
the cockpit temperature indication as a reference for this task.
2. The procedures described below are mainly applicable to pack 2 (passenger
cabin temperature controller), but this can also be applicable to pack 1
(cockpit temperature controller) at the operator’s discretion.
3. To turn both packs (1 and 2) on, do this procedure for pack 1 first.
(a) Pull the controller knob to select the Manual Control (Refer to Figure 201).
(b) Set the controller knob to the 9 o’clock position and wait 3 minutes at this position.
(d) Keep the controller knob at the 9 o’clock position for 2 minutes.
(2) When the outside air temperature is between 8°C and 15°C:
(a) With the automatic controller selected, set the controller knob at the full, cold position
and wait 3 minutes at this position.

DISTRIBUTION
INTRODUCTION
The distribution subsystem controls the quantity of conditioned air
supplied to the cockpit and passenger cabin.
DESCRIPTION
The conditioned air that comes from the two ECU’s goes to the main
distribution ducts before it gets to the cockpit and passenger cabin.
The main distribution ducts are installed below the floor between wing
spar I and center fuselage II.
The main distribution ducts control the quantity of conditioned air to
the cockpit (Ref. 21-21) and cabin (Ref. 21-22 ).
This duct also has a cross-connection that supplies fresh air, through
individual gaspers, to the crewmembers and passengers (Ref. 21-23
). This cross-connection also supplies fresh air to the rear electronic
compartment.
The DISTRIBUTION includes this (these) sub-subsystem(s):

NOTE: An APU - Auxiliary Power Unit oil leakage can contaminate components on the
two sides of the system as a result of the aircraft operation mode. Do the
inspection on the two sides of the system to find if there is contamination. A single
bleed/dual pack operation can contaminate the two sides with only one source of
air.
1 Do an internal visual inspection in the valve housing for signs of oil contamination.

4. Conditioned Air Ducts - Oil Decontamination - Cleaning
A. General
(1) This task gives the procedure to decontaminate the air conditioning system with throttle-
ahead engine operation after an oil leakage (from engines or APU) occurs.
(2) When an oil leakage from APU occurs, you must to clean the APU bleed lines first and then
clean the system with throttle-ahead engine operation, as applicable.
(3) The cleaning of the air conditioning system can be done with air bled from the related (one
side at a time) engine. If both lines were contaminated, you must to clean both sides. Do
as applicable.
(4) Make sure that the cause of the leakage was removed. Refer to FIM TASK
21-20-00-810-803-A, as applicable.
(5) If the smell continues after this procedure, you must clean the distribution system. Refer to

(2) Cracked polycarbonate ducts can be repaired in all locations of the aircraft.
(3) To repair the surfaces of ducts, you must obey these conditions:
(b) The total damaged areas, with all polycarbonate parts added together, cannot be
larger than 103.0 cm2 (16 in2) of all the body of the duct. If the damage is larger than
103.0 cm2 (16 in2), you must replace the duct.
NOTE: The operator must control the total repair area. Embraer suggests that you
have a form to control all repairs. Table 801 presents an example of such a
form.

• Apply firm, positive pressure and make the surface smooth as necessary
to prevent air bubbles.
• Work the patch down over all the surface of the duct.
• The patch is not correctly bonded in the region where will installed,
