An Administrative Officer is a First level Officer and needs to handle administrative and
authoritative work. Checking the insurance policies, authorizing insurance claims, filing official
returns are all a part of an Administrative Officer’s job profile.

 Job description/ Task Analysis for “Administrative Officer”-


An Administrative officer (AO) will be assigned to specific departments like:-
1.Underwriting: Mainly in Braches and Divisional Offices. Officers are given the authority
to accept proposals of course with financial limits which also includes signing and
issuing policy.
2.Claims: officers process and settle the claims and look after all the legal and non-legal
aspects of the claims.
3.Account: Officers are responsible for payments, receipts accuracy of the accounting
transactions, preparing the balance sheets depending on the level of office

 Job Specifications for Administrative Officer


 The Administrative officer will have the power to authorize Claims as per the rules and
regulations.
 Verifying of Risk Assessment.
 Manage a team of NIACL Assistants.
 Evaluate the performance of NIACL Assistants.
 Providing confirmations for issuing and renewal of Insurance policies brought by Agents.
 Act as a link between the senior management and the employee.
 Provide motivation to the work force and make them realize the goals of an organization.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) required by the Position

 Knowledge of all departments (underwriting, claim, accounts)
 Knowledge of General Insurance Sector (PA insurance, marine, motor, fire, health, cattle,
workman compensation insurance, doctor indemnity insurance, etc.)

An Administrative Officer supervises the work done by the assistants, check and verify the risk
proposals and authorize the claims.

internally with various departments of the company.

 Scope and Effect


 One of the major administrative responsibility would be to monitor the issuance of
Insurance policies.
 Responsible for setting up and settling of Insurance claims.
 An AO will have to place the role of a Policy Maker for setting policies and norms related
insurance.
 An AO would check regularly the clauses and details of various insurance policies and
ensure that they are followed.

 Teamwork Requirements
Usually the work assigned to AO, would be carry out after Agents bring clients and proposals to
him/her. With the help of Assistants AO complete his/ her assigned work which includes
underwriting, claims and accounts. Ultimately work done through team work approach.
 Personal Contacts
Direct Contact with Development officers, Assistants, Branch managers, Agents, etc. is
required.

Communication can help to foster a good working relationship between you and your Channel
Partner, which can in turn improve professional relationship. Also, transparency is an essential
element for a long term relationship with the Assistants, Agents, policyholders, clients, etc.

 Work Environment
 Enjoy working among co-operating and encouraging subordinates and peers.
 Occasionally dealing with an angry or discourteous clients/ parties/ policyholder.
 Sometimes, experiences internal work politics.
 High pressure during end of financial year.
