Values of Rizal
Points of Note:
In this chapter Rizal explains what it means to love one's country. It is here that the character of
Elias finds more color and depth.
Setting Elias as an example, we should not be afraid to speak up when we notice inequality and
unjust ruling, we should learn how to be protective of our land and people, to achieve the kind of
life that the people deserve, to address the concerns and the needs of all, and to deliver the
people from the oppressors.
In the voice of the hunted, Elias spoke towards the demand and the concerns of those who are
hunted, he was able to describe the encounters of the people from the hands of the friars and
the civil guards. He spoke of truth and real experiences, hoping to provide hope for the people
who are asking for justice.
