The Blackwater Coal Rail System is one of four systems in Aurizon’s Central Queensland
Coal Network (CQCN). It has the largest route length of the four coal systems.
In late 2015 Aurizon completed Track configuration Combination of single and duplicated tracks
the Wiggins Island Rail Project
(WIRP), which involved the staged Export terminals 2
development of new rail lines and
upgrading of existing lines to WICET. Blackwater is largely an electrified
WIRP created a vital link between the system, however, Aurizon also runs
coal terminal and mines in the Southern a small number of diesel services.
Bowen and Surat Basins. The rail
expansion comprised interdependent Major Aurizon customers in the
infrastructure projects across the Blackwater system include BMA,
Blackwater Rail System, the Moura Jelinbah Resources, Westfarmers
Rail System and the North Coast Line. and Glencore.
