PANIMULA
Ang ideyang ito ay pinalawig ni Dobie (2012) nang kanyang ipinahayag na ang
ekokritisismo ay eko-panitikang naglalahad ng pagkakaugnay ng akda sa kamalayan ng
mga mambabasa sa mundo ng hindi mga tao (non-human world) at ang kanyang
tungkulin at responsibilidad dito. Ito ay hindi lamang malilikhaing pagpapahayag, kundi,
bukod sa malikhain, ito ay nagtataglay din mga mapanuring katangian na tungkulin ng
isang indibidwal at iba pang nilalang sa kapaligiran at kalikasan.

Bilang isang anak na masunurin, ang isa sa kanyang ginagawa sa tuwing umaga ay
ang pagsasalok ng tubig sa ilog. Ang kanyang tubig na naiigib ay isinasalin niya sa isang
banga na buhat-buhat niya tuwing siya ay tumutungo sa ilog. Napakalinaw ng ilog kung
kaya, siya’y nasisiyahan sap ag-iigib dito.
Isang araw, nang si Kamila ay muling magtungo sa ilog upang magsalok ng tubig,
gayon na lamang ang kanyang pagkabigla nang may dumating na isang lalaking may
katawang matipuno. Hindi niya nalamayan ang lalakeng dumating. Ni hindi niya rin alam
kung saan ito nagmula.
“Sino ka?” ang tanong ni Kamila sa lalaki. “Ako si Jose. Huwag kang matakot sa
akin. Ako’y hindi masamang tao”, ang tugon ni Jose. “Sa aming daigdig, ako ay tinatawag
nilang Agos. Narinig ko lamang ang ngalang Jose sa isang tagalupang gaya mong
nagdadaraan dito sa ilog”, ang pahayag ni Agos.
“Hindi kita mauunawaan. Anong daigdig ang iyong tinutukoy?” tanong ni Kamila.
“Ang karagatan. Ako’y anak ng isang diwata at isang hari ng karagatan. Ako’y hindi tao,
Kamila. Subalit, ikaw ang tanging makatutulong sa akin upang ako’y maging isang
tagalupang gaya mo. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit ako ay nagpakilala sa iyo upang hindi mo
ako katatakutan. Hindi mo naitanong, matagal na kitang sinusubaybayan. Nakikita kita
tuwing umaga na sumasalok ng tubig sa ilog. Ngayon lamang ako nagkalakas ng loob na
lumapit sa iyo at ika’y kausapin. Sapagkat…mahal kita. Sa simula pa lamang nang kita’y
makita, ay naisip kong ikaw ang babaeng nais kong mapangasawa upang ako ay maging
isang ganap na tagalupa”, ang isinagot ni Agos sa tanong ni Kamila.
“Ako’y iyong binigla, at hindi ko alam ang aking sasabihin. Ni hindi ako
makapagpasya”, ang tugon ni Kamila.
