AIMS OF STUDY
1. To discuss what Faith is.
2. To discover it’s relevance in our Christian walk.
INTRODUCTION
According to Hebrews 11vs1, it is defined as the “substance of things hoped for, and the
evidence of things not seen”, which means when it comes to faith, we do not define
things based on rationality (the human senses or based on the things we see). If we did,
that no longer becomes faith but vain imagination (Romans 8vs24).
To bring more clarity to the theme, it is defined as the action taken based in a
conviction one has about God. Faith is an important virtue that every believer should
have. It is so important that without it, one cannot please God (Hebrews 11vs6). It is so
important that it is enlisted in the Christian Life Triangle in 1 Corinthians 13vs13, that
consists of: Faith, Hope And Love. Surprisedly, it also appears as a virtue in the Fruit of
the Spirit (Gal. 5vs22) and as a gift of the Spirit (1 Corin. 12vs9). You can see how
important it is!
Faith is what allows is to connect to God or anything about Him. This is why the Word
of God is so important! It is the only tool that generates “FAITH” in the heart of the
believer (Romans 10vs17).
TYPES OF FAITH
Faith is based on “levels” or “types”. This is why Christ said, “If your faith is as small as a
mustard seed”(Luke17vs6). Which means that faith can either be small or big. From this
passage of Scripture, Mark 4vs20, we can say we have “3 levels” of Faith.
1. The “THIRTYFOLD FAITH”: This is also known as the general level of Faith or the
“mustard seed faith”. This type of Faith is fragile and can be nurtured with time.
We day “fragile” because it hasn’t been thoroughly rooted (Read Matthew
13vs20-21).
2. The “SIXTYFOLD FAITH”: This is the “average type faith” because now it is
between the range 30-100 fold. This is the faith that has grown past the thirtyfold
faith. At this point, our conviction about God is gradually taking root. At this point,
we can endure trial and persecution and still be found faithful (James 1vs1-2). But
our utmost focus is to attain the “hundredfold faith” because we believe in
constant growth (Luke 17vs5).
3. The “HUNDREDFOLD FAITH”: This is the highest peak of Faith. This is the level of
Faith that our ancestors obtained a good testimony about (Hebrews 11vs2). This
is the level of Faith that our patriarchs and Martyrs attained that let them lay
down their lives for the course of the gospel. It is the level of “If I perish, I perish”
(Phil. 1vs21; Acts 21vs10-13; Esther 4vs16; Ruth 1vs16b-17; Daniel 3vs16-18). This
was the language of the three Hebrew men. They were so full of conviction that it
didn’t matter whether God saved them or not. They believed in his superiority
and not even their present situation could change that.
At this level of Faith, you become wired towards the things of God that nothing
gets in the way of stopping you (Romans 8vs35-39). This is the level of Faith we
must all attain, where life no longer means anything to us for the sake of Christ.
NOTE
1. Much More than using Faith to command result, faith is primarily about living for
Christ. That is the utmost priority! Faith lets you see and behold God from a
reality of conviction.
2. Any level of Faith can produce results!
CONCLUSION
Faith is what makes God real to us. Jesus said “Blessed are they that have not seen and
yet have believed” (John 20vs29). This is what makes us different from the world. Faith
is part of the hidden wisdom of God to the world because, by it, the world cannot
discern it and they will regard it as foolishness; but to us, it is revealed as the power of
God (1 Corin. 2vs21).
