BENTONE 38 is used to increase viscosity and gel strength in invert oil

Applications/ base or synthetic base mud. It has proven successful in preparing drilling,
Functions coring workover and completion fluids such as casing packs, packer fluids
and spotting fluids. Good agitation and sufficient shear are required to
develop viscosity when using BENTONE 38 to build fresh mud.

¾ Provide suspension of weighting materials.

Advantages ¾ Increase hole-cleaning capacity.
¾ Temperature stable.
¾ Effective gelling agent in casing packs and packer fluids.
¾ Improves filter cakes quality and filtration characteristics.

Recommended ¾ The concentration used is generally in the range 2 - 10 lb/bbl (5.7 –

Treatment 28.5 kg/m3).
¾ Specialty application such as packer fluids and casing packs is in
the range of 10 - 15 lb/bbl (28.5 – 42.75 kg/m3).

¾ The effectiveness of BENTONE 38 is reduced when added to a

mud system, which is severely water wet.
Limitations ¾ Over treatment may lead to rheological problems.
¾ Requires shear and temperature to yield to its optimum level.
¾ Higher concentrations required in high oil water ratio systems.
¾ Allow newly formulated fluids two full circulations before attempting
to remediate low rheology.

Recommended Consult MSDS before use and use personal protective equipment as
Handling advised.

BENTONE 38 is packaged in 50 lb (22.7 kg) or 25 kg (55 lb) sacks. Store
