Political Essay

Lack of Education: One of the World’s Significant Issue

Have you ever wondered what will happen to humanity if education does not exist? Will the world

still be the same way today if none of us attained education? As Nelson Mandela once said,

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Education is

one of the main reasons why the world has evolved as the world it is today. It is the reason for the

developments and advancement of technology and other advancement that we have today. To fully

attain and unlock a person’s talent and potential one must discover the potential of the human mind

and it is through learning. Education is one of the most basic human rights a person could get and

yet, there are numerous people that does not have the means to attain it.

There are many reasons why most people can’t afford to have an education. Poverty is one of the

main factors why one can’t attain education. According to Rodriguez (2020), poor families are

frequently forced to choose between providing their children with a basic education and meeting

their other fundamental requirements. Even though they are not required to pay tuition, school

charges additional costs such as uniforms, books, materials, and test fees. Several countries in Sub-

Saharan Africa, which is home to the world's poorest children, have made efforts to eliminate

school fees. While the proportion of pupils finishing lower secondary school in the region has

increased from 23% in 1990 to 42% in 2014, enrollment remains low when compared to the global

ratio of 75%. For the poorest households, school is still too expensive. Some of the children are

compelled to stay at home to help with housework or are required to work. Expensive private
schools are sometimes the only option in some locations, particularly in areas where disaster and

violence are a constant occurrence, resulting in devastated infrastructure and inadequate resources.

Another factor that leads to educational problems are the lack of school facilities and financial

support. In most countries, schools lack sufficient classrooms and other necessary amenities. Even

the most basic materials (pencil, paper, and chalk) are in short supply, textbooks are frequently out

of stock, and more complex materials (library, science equipment) that allow kids to learn through

hands-on activities are completely lacking. In nearly every way, the entire system of recruiting,

training, assigning, supervising, and monitoring teachers is "badly conceived." (Pritchett,2004)

Gender is also a hindrance for a person to be able to study. UNICEF stated that around the world,

129 million females are out of school, with 32 million in elementary school, 30 million in lower

secondary school, and 67 million in upper secondary school. Girls in nations affected by this issue

are more than twice as likely as girls in non-affected countries to drop out of school. Many factors,

including as poverty, child marriage, and gender-based violence, cause impediments to girls'

education, which differ by country and community. When it comes to education, poor households

frequently favor boys.

All things considered, education should be given to everyone despite the circumstances. The world

leaders should make giving quality education to their people one of their top priorities. No one

should be deprived of education as it is one of the most important tool a person can have. Just

imagine a world where each one of us is able to study the world would be a far better place.
