ACTIVITY 2 –LET’S REFLECT!

Directions: Write a reflection on the importance of localized materials in your life as a student.
Localized materials are generally described as materials that are naturally occurring,
locally produced, and abundant on a certain region. As a student, incorporating these localized
materials in different areas of our life is prominent in promoting and exhibiting our community’s
very own culture. For instance, integrating these localized materials in creating creative works
and process can help promote our community’s own culture and products to those who perceive
our works. An example of this is purchasing or even producing products that involves the local
materials in our community such as bags made up of nito plant, baskets made up of rattan,
decorative mats made up of tikog reed plant, etc.

Incorporating these localized materials in different areas of our life not only helps in
promoting our culture, but it also benefits our local community workers and help to stimulate the
economy of our community and region, which can in turn, benefit us students in the long term.
Instead of patronizing imported foreign products, we should instead support our local products
made up of localized materials available in our community in order to generate an income to be
reinvested in our community, thus, supporting things such as our local schools, infrastructure,
etc.
