Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Task 4 Speaking Assignment

1. Activity Description

Type of activity: Individual


Evaluation moment: Intermediate Unit 2
Highest score of the activity: 70 grades
The activity starts on: Monday, October The activity ends on: Monday, October

With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

The student will be able to speak about past and future events, give recommendations
and express his/her opinion using “wish” and “hope”, as well as conditionals.

The activity consists of:

The activity lies in:

- Recording a video by using the tool Screencast-O-Matic or similar.

- Expose orally your point of view about the “Effects of technology on the
environment”, as you did it in the writing activity.

- Get feedback from your partners in the forum of the task and from your tutor in the
Skype interaction.

- The final product must be sent individually. You create your final product
through the process you develop.

- You can ask and give opinions about other partner’s interventions in the Forum of
the task.

You will develop this task in three stages:

Stage 1: Interaction practice

Practice how to present and explain your opinions developed in the previous task, Task
2: Writing forum.

Practice your presentation with your tutor through Skype. The feedback of
this activity will be given orally by the tutor during the interaction. Your tutor
will send you a link for the booking.

Practice how to express orally your opinions towards:


- The ideas you shared in your letter in the task 2: writing
assignment about positive and negative effects of technology on
the environment.
- How you see the future of our planet.
- Strategies to mitigate the environmental damage.

You can use the following expressions as an example:


According to… from my point of view… I consider… global warming…
environmental damage… combat increasing rate of… environmental
pollution… the impact of… degradation of lands… economic growth…
poverty… developing countries… population growth… rapid urbanization…
natural resources scarcity… if people don’t change their habits… If
current trends continue… rising levels of consumption… Governments…
United Nations (UN)… measures… take actions… sustainable
development… policies… climate policy… eco-friendly technology… it is
necessary… I recommend… I would… etc…

Stage 2: Record the video

Record your presentation. For this, it is necessary to use the tool SCREENCAST
O’MATIC1 or similar.

You have to create a PowerPoint presentation and show it on the screen and at the
same time, you must record your face doing the explanation.

Take into account:

- Pronunciation interaction and tutor’s feedback in the 1st stage.


- Make pauses.
- Speak loudly.
- It is not allowed reading aloud; it must be a conscious speaking exercise.
- Length of the video: 3 minutes as minimum and 5 minutes as maximum.
- It is not allowed reading.

Stage 3: Publish your video in the Evaluation environment

Upload your video on YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive. Then, share the link in the
forum.

NOTE: If you decide to upload your video on Google Drive, make sure that the link you
share allows to watch the video without privacy setting.

For the development of the activity consider that:

In the Initial Information Environment, you must:

- Check the agenda out to verify the opening and closing dates of the task

- Check out and study the Online Content (Level B2 from module 5 to module 8).
Enter the forum and participate in the development of Individual and
Collaborative tasks.

In the Evaluation Environment, you must:

- Upload one PDF format document with the link of the video.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to Submit

For Individual evidences, consider the following:

• Every student must participate with academic’s contributions in the activity


development.

• Before delivering the suggested product, all the requirements indicated in this
activity guide must be checked.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
among others, are the following: paragraph e) Plagiarism is to present as your own
work all or part of a written report, task or document of invention carried out by
another person. It also implies the use of citations or lack of references, or it
includes citations where there is no match between these and the reference and

paragraph f) To reproduce, or copy for profit, educational resources or results of
research products, which have rights reserved for the University. (Acuerdo 029 - 13

The academic penalties students will face are:


a) In case of academic fraud demonstrated in the academic work or evaluation, the
score obtained will be zero (0.0) without any disciplinary measures being derived.
b) In case of proven plagiarism in academic work of any nature, the score obtained
will be zero (0.0), without any disciplinary measures being derived.
