Lap formar working procedure:

On the lap former machine the material flow starts with the creel (1, Fig. 27),
consisting of two feed rails. In normal operation 12 cans are laid out under each
roller-assisted feed table. Altogether, this gives a total of 24 doublings. The pre-draw
frame slivers run over a guide bridge above the service alley and also over several
guide rollers to the drafting system at 2 (Fig. 30). The web created by the draft of 1.3 to
2.5 passes over two deflecting plates (Fig. 28) onto the web table on which the webs are
superimposed. Calendar rollers draw these superimposed webs from the table to the
lap winding assembly. The strong compression created between the calender rollers
forms a new web, which is rolled into a lap in the lap forming assembly. Empty tubes
are automatically exchanged for full laps. Transport of the laps to the combing machine
is semi-automatic or fully automalic.
Lap formar working procedure:
Drawing Machines where slivers from carding are Drawn in to, so as to make the fibers
parallel and are fed to a similar machine to get a better parallelization which goes to the
next department.
In Lapformer machine, slivers are fed to form a lap of 20 inches wide condensed with a
slight draft and weighing as per set length. The machine runs smoothly so as not to
disturb the fibers which undergo combing at the comber machines. One such Lap
former is sufficient to feed 8 comber machines. The machine is equipped with sliver
break stop motion.Whenever the sliver in any of the cans happens the machine stops
and a red light goes up to indicate the operator that it has stopped. These Laps are
wound to fixed lengths and is cut at that length and the machine ejects it to a stand and
starts automatically.

Working Principle of Super Lap Former

Machine in Textile:
The total super lap former machine description and material passage flow chart have
presented in the following:
1. There are three creels, three zones and three different feed plates in this machine.
Here, 48-60 slivers (in each creel 16-20slivers) are fed at a time.
2. The slivers are passed through 3 over 2 drafting system, made up of pair of back
rollers.
3. After drafting the webs are led through the pairs of calendar rollers and along a table
where they are superimposed, calendared and made into a lap.
4. Stop motions are fitted to all the rollers including the calendar rollers and an
indicating light is fitted there.
6. Here, doffing of full laps and threading are fully automatic.

Why Lap Former is Needed?

Yarns which are made up of longer length of fibres, tend to show less irregularities in
subsequent processes. Those yarns are superior in quality and carry lower percentage
of hairiness as well. A comber machine provides such uniform and regular slivers that
are free from a predetermined length of short fibres. So, basically for manufacturing
such types of greater quality yarn, use of a comber machine is a must in spinning line.
But before start to manufacture these uniform slivers in comber which ultimately lead
to craft extraordinary yarn, need to produce a number of uniform laps as well. To
produce those laps, there the lap formers come into action.
As the comber machine is unable to process the drawing frame slivers directly and
relying on lap feeding system only, introduction of the lap former machine becomes
mandatory. Besides, lap feeding system helps the comber to comb it better and
efficiently in comparison to hypothetical sliver feeding system.
