Week # 5
CLASS: 9 SUBJECT: Mathematics TOPIC: Laws of Indices
DATE: 30th Sept’21 – 3rd Sept’21 Duration: 35mins *2 TERM: 1st
Lesson 1 & 2
Learning Objective: By the end of the lesson students will be able to
 Use and interpret positive and negative indices.
 Use and interpret fractional indices.

Resource: New Syllabus Mathematics [BK - 3] 7th edition, Power point presentation and a video.
Cross curriculum link:
Starter Activity: TIME:
 Reinforcement of laws of indices will be done with the help of a short quiz on board. 5 mins
Students will be asked to share the laws they learnt in their previous class.
 Students will be asked to share their prior knowledge about indices and their short
comings.
Learning Activities:

Whole Class Activity 10mins


 With the help of starter activity, the topic will be introduced and reinforced.
 Vocabulary of Indices and laws will be discussed and explained.
 Fractional indices will be introduced.
 Students will be guided that the concept and steps involved in simplification of
fractional indices and fractions is similar.

Group task: 20mins


Students will be asked to solve question in groups. Few questions randomly will be asked to
assess their understanding. Teacher will go to slow learners and check their work pattern.
Further, their queries will be addressed, if any.

Will be able to solve Q 1- Q4

Majority of the students


Will be able to solve Q 5- Q6

Few of the students


Will be able to solve Q 7- Q8

Individual task: 20
Students will be asked to solve few questions on boards mins

 Written assignment will be done for concept building and retention.

Plenary:
Two wish and a star Students will be asked to write two things they have learnt well and on 10mins
they found difficult simplification by raising their hands.
