If this apparatus should be sold or transferred, ensure that this manual
is given to the new owner, for the correct use and installation.
This manual should be kept by the apparatus for in case of doubt in its
use and for maintenance reasons.

IMORTANT! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE AUTOCLAVE.

1) Never use the autoclave to sterilize any of the following hazardous materials or
substances with alkali content. Sterilization of such objects can cause explosion, corrosion of
the working chamber or chamber piping, and deterioration of gaskets.

List of Hazardous Materials:

Explosive substances
- Nytroglycol, nitroglycerin, nitrocellulose, and other explosive nitric esters.
- Trinitrobenzene, trinitrotoluene, picric acid, and other explosive nitro compounds.
- Peracetic acid, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, benzoyl peroxide and other organic
peroxides.

Ignitable substances
- Metallic lithium, potassium, sodium, yellow phosphorous, phosphorous sulfide, and
red phosphorous.
- Celluloids, calcium carbide (carbide), lime phosphide, and magnesium powder.
- Aluminum powder, magnesium powder, and metallic powders other than aluminum
powder.
- Sodium dithionite (or sodium hydrosulfite).

Oxidizing agents
- Potassium chlorate, sodium chlorate, ammonium chlorate, and other chlorates.
- Potassium perchlorate, sodium perchlorate, ammonium perchlorate, and other
perchlorates.
- Potassium peroxide, sodium peroxide, barium peroxide, and other inorganic
peroxides.
- Potassium nitrate, sodium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, and other nitrates.
- Sodium chlorite and other chlorites.
- Calcium hypochlorite and other hypoclorites.

Flammable substances
- Ethyl ether, gasoline, acetaldehyde, propylene oxide, carbon disulfide, and other
substances whose flash points range from -30 to 0ºC.
- Methanol, ethanol, xylene, benzyl acetate (or amyl acetate), and other substances
whose flash points range from 0 to 30ºC.
- Kerosene, gas oil, turpenine oil, isopentyl alcohol (or isoamyl alcohol), acetic acid,
and other substances whose flash points range from 30 to 65ºC.

2 / 23
R. ESPINAR, S.L. AESi/09

Flammable gas
- Hydrogen, acetylene, ethylene, methane, ethane, propane, butane, and other
substances that are gases at temperature of 15ºC under 1 atmospheric pressure.

2) When liquid whith salt water and much salinity of salt agar, etc. spills in the chamber,
blowing, discharge water in the chamber and wipe up drop of water around the lid
gasket beautifully. It causes the corrosion of the chamber and the piping when
leaving just as it is.
3) Absolutely do not attempt to remodel or alter this product.
4) Do not forcibly bend, twist, tie or extend the power cord. Do not place heavy objects
on the cord. A damaged cord or exposed wire can cause fire or electric shock.
5) Never connect the power cord to a power supply other than one of the rated voltage.
Connection to such a power supply can cause fire or electric shock.
6) If grounded socket is unavaliable, ground the equipment using a separate ground
wire before connecting the power cord to the power source.
7) Never ground to a gas pipe or vinyl chloride water service pipe.
8) Do not pour anything except for water.
9) Do not use the autoclave for the purpose other than sterilization and agar preparation
(dissolution).
10) Close the lid after confirming that no foreign matter is adhering to the section
contacting the lid gasket. Foreign matter in this section can cause vapor leaks.
11) When using a waste processing bag or other kind of bag and disinfecting, place the
bag in the metal mesh holder and then insert it into the chamber. Using the bag “as
is” can cause excessive temperatures, pressures, lack-of-water, etc.
12) Do not put your face or hands close to the chamber when lifting the lid after
operations are complete; steam will gush out of the chamber.
13) The lid, chamber, gasket, and top casing are extremely hot immediately after the
completion of operation. Do not touch the equipment or you may get burned.
14) Put on heat insulating gloves before removing a substance from the chamber. Do not
put hands into the chamber until the steam has been vented.
15) Some time is required for liquids to cool. Be sure to check that the temperature has
dropped sufficiently before unloading a liquid from the chamber or burns can result.
16) Never drain the chamber when the chamber is under pressure. Boiling water or
steam may gush out causing burns.
17) If any abnormality occurs (e.g. abnormal sounds, smells, smoke), immediately shut
the power off. After checking that the abnormal condition does not continue, call out
authorized distributor in your region.

explosion.
Don’t block or cover the rear ventilation grid.
Connect a flexible tube to the drainage rear outlet for drainage.

CONNECTION TO THE MAINS

There is the characteristics plate situated at the rear, indicating the voltage and
power. Check to make sure that your electrical installations have the same
conditions.
The plug that owns the monophasis autoclaves (AES-12, AES-28 and AES-75) is a
SCHUKO with central and lateral connection, for security reasons the oven must be
installed to ground.
The triphasic autoclaves (AES-110 and AES-150) have a normalized plug of 16A, 3
poles, neutral and ground.
The autoclaves are equipped from the factory to be connected at 380V+N and
ground, but they can be changed into triphasic 220V and ground following the
instructions given in CHANGE OF VOLTAGE.

CHANGING VOLTAGE
To change voltage into 220V triple phase and ground follow the next steps:
-Disconnect the autoclave from the mains
-Take off the back cover of the autoclave
-Change the metallic bridges on the binding post from the star connection to a delta
connection, as indicates below.

PURGE AND HEATING: Automatic air purge and heating phases.

HEATING: Heating phases and pressure increasing.
STERILIZING: Keeping the sterilization temperature during the
programmed time.
COOLING: Natural cooling period before the sterilization process
and up to 95ºC.
END OF PROCESS: Sterilization cycle ending message.

When the sterilization process is finished an acoustic signal will sound.

To be back at the initial screen press the switches “START/STOP”.
Open the lid and keep it opened during 1 or 2 minutes before taking out the material.

STERILIZATION
Before initializing a sterilization program, the microprocessor screen will show the
sterilization chamber temperature in the upper line, and in the lower “PURGE HEATING”.
From that point the temperature will be increasing and purging the air automatically.
By the drainage terminal the water drops will flow through the air condensation, that means
is better to put under a small container (tray) or drive it to a drainage not higher than 14 cm.
from the floor.
Do not use a plastic tube to drive the drainage, because the steam could make loose its
shape., otherwise you can use silicone, latex, cupper tubes, etc.

15 / 23
R. ESPINAR, S.L. AESi/09

Once the air of inside the chamber is purged totally, the message "PURGE" from the
screen will disappear, it will only stay the message "HEATING", and the temperature
will raise up to the programmed one., when it will appear in the screen the message:
"STERILIZING", and in the upper line will be shown a countdown of the selected
sterilization time.
Once the air purge period is finished, and until reaching the working temperature, the
manometer will be increasing the lecture pressures, showing the one inside the
chamber.
When the sterilization time is finished, it will appear in the screen the message:
"COOLING", during this phases, the pressure and the temperature will decrease
naturally, up to the temperature of 95ºC when it will appear on the screen a
message: "END OF PROCESS" and it will sound an acoustic signal for some
seconds.

DO NOT OPEN THE AUTOCLAVE UNTIL THE END OF THE PROCESS AND THE
MANOMETRE WILL SHOW "0".

SHUT DOWN OF THE AUTOCLAVE.

To stop the autoclave put the main switch in the position 0.
Let the autoclave cool down up to the manometer shows 0.
At that moment the autoclave can be opened.
To make faster the unsteaming process, it can be opened the steam tap (7) until the
manometer shows 0. In the model AES-12, put the three position tap in the “VAPOR”
(steam) position.
If there has been a liquid sterilization, this operation can not be done because it could
overflow all the liquid from inside the container, and also their caps.
Before every sterilization it is useful to check the inside water level.
If the autoclave has been stopped by the main switch and it has been cooling down too
much, it is possible to have vacuum incidentally inside so that means it would be a little more
difficult to open the lid. In this case open the unsteaming tap (7) before opening the lid in
order to reestablish the inside atmospheric pressure.

16 / 23
R. ESPINAR, S.L. AESi/09

LOADING THE AUTOCLAVE

Place the material to be sterilized directly or in baskets, in a way that you leave
space the steam to circulate freely.
Moreover, the bags must be placed plastic with plastic and paper with paper to avoid
condensations.
We also recommend that the bags should be placed side plastic face down in
baskets because if placed paper side down they will absorb the condensation from
the baskets.
It is also preferable to add for the inside face of the basket such an absorbation
paper, for example KRAFF (ABSORBING) when sterilization bags are used.

PRINTER MODE
The microprocessor comes out from the factory with the configuration of manual
printer.
To make possible printing a sterilization inform, if the printer has a switch called

we have to follow the next steps:
1.- Keep pressed the switch (7) “TEMPERATURE” during some seconds, in the
screen will appear the message: “MANUAL PRINTING” and then the next 4 seconds
will appear in the screen the message: “N.PROG.PROTEGIDOS. 4”
(N.PROG.PROTECTED) that shows us that the 4 programs are protected.
2.- Pressing switches “INCREASE/DECREASE” to modify the nº of program that is
suitable do be block or unblock.
0 = No program protected.
1 To 10 = Program to protect from P0 to P9.
3.- To exit the screen and validate the nº of programs protected press switch “PRO”.

NOTE: THIS INFORMATION IS CONVINIENT TO BE KNOWN BY

AUTORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.

WARNING MESSAGES
These messages will appear in the second line of the microprocessor screen. They
only appear if there is a sterilization process going on.

PRINTING
This message will appear up to the end of the printing process.
(Only for autoclaves with IT printer)

FAILURE MESSAGES
The failures detected during the sterilization process, a part from giving you the
printing warning, are accompanied with the sound of an acoustic signal and the light
of LCD. Pressing the switch “START/STOP”, the sound stops. To delete an alarm
message; maintain pressed the button “START/STOP” during 2 seconds; until the

20 / 23
R. ESPINAR, S.L. AESi/09

message is deleted, in case you don’t have to do a discharge phase, if the cycle was
in a determined phase, the control still consider to be pressure inside the autoclave,
or the temperature is still high, in the case of sterilizing liquids when the cooling
process is finished or the discharge, the acoustic signal will sound.

FAULT PROBE 1
The control detects that the temperature probe Pt-100 is broken. It is impossible to
proceed with the sterilization. If during the sterilization the probe is broken the
process stops.

FAULT HEATING
When a cycle of sterilization starts, the evolution of the temperature increase is being
controlled up to the temperature selected. If the temperature does not evolute
correctly, that means there must be a problem and the cycle is aborted.

FAULT TEMPERATURE
During the sterilization process the temperature must be between a scale of value to
guarantee a correct sterilization., if this value is modified more than the setting one,
the sterilization is not correct and the process is aborted.

ELECTRO CUTTING
By the way it is not a failure but an interruption of the sterilization cycle, because of
an electrical cut. This will mean an abortion of the cycle.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Take a look at the joint of the lid regularly
If there are such cuts or it is in bad conditions it must be replaced.
Put some grease to the screwed axis of the closure lid when it is hard to tighten.
To clean the vessel of the autoclave you must use a neutral detergent diluted with
water.
Do not use Acid cleaners, Chlorine solvents or saline solutions.
To make any reparation or manipulation it must be switched off from the mains.
