Important Information About the Manual Erase Firmware Update

Important
This section explains why the Manual Erase Firmware correction needs to be installed on the Classic CR Systems
with EasyView (EV) scanners. All of the following items are for information only.
• There is a known issue with the manual erase function on some Classic CR Systems with EV scanners. The
power supply may reset when a screen is manually erased. This causes the scanner to reset and the screen is
returned to the cassette without being erased. The scanner will also lose communication with the console and
will not re-establish communication until both the scanner and console are rebooted. There has been no issue
when a screen is erased during the scan cycle.
• The Field Engineer (FE) should do a manual erase test during an installation. If a failure occurs, then the FE
should use Activity Code FF5 for parts and labor. Not all of the scanners listed in the serial number range on the
front page of this document will fail the manual erase test.
• If a Classic CR System with EV scanner fails the manual erase test, then it is recommended to do a firmware
upgrade to resolve this issue. The software will download the MCB Application firmware V1.4.0.10.m00 to the
MCB board, which will correct this issue and make it unnecessary to replace the power supply.
• This firmware upgrade also includes the correction for the Halogen Erase Patch Mod 26 (Publication No.
6K3128).

Note
• This modification is for Classic CR Systems with EV scanners only. The firmware file must be copied to the hard
drive of the WAIV console before it can be downloaded to the scanner, and must remain on the console in case
of a future MCB board replacement.
• This modification is not required for Classic CR or Elite CR System scanners with fluorescent erase. Any WAIV
console connected to a Classic CR or Elite CR System with fluorescent erase does not need this firmware file
on its hard drive. This modification has no effect on Classic CR and Elite CR System scanners with fluorescent
erase.
• V1.4.0.10.m00 firmware was approved as listed in the CPE Hardware Quality Assurance Test Summary Report
Publication No. 6K3963.
