MineScape License Management Guide
MineScape Licenses
MineScape provides two licensing methods:
• server license
• nodelocked license
Server License
A MineScape license server is installed on a dedicated host machine and is accessible by all machines
where MineScape is installed. Conceptually, the MineScape license server contains a pool of licenses
available for all users.
Reason to use a server license:
• You are in a multi-user environment and your purchased licenses need to be shared across a number
of users.
Nodelocked License
A nodelocked license allows a single instance of MineScape to run on a specific machine. Nodelocked
licenses are directly tied to the hardware of the machine where the license file is located and does not
require a MineScape license server.
Reasons to use a nodelocked license:
• You are the sole user of MineScape.
• You do the majority of your work on a laptop that you take offsite frequently.
• You don’t have access to a MineScape license server.
• You are not in a networked environment.

Up to 16 MB of free disk space is needed for the MineScape License Server installation. The installation
process must be run by a user with administrative privileges.
In a multi-user environment, MineScape License Server should be installed on a designated server or
host machine, i.e. the machine that will be accessed by MineScape users. The designated server or host
machine should also have MineScape Design File Server installed on it. In a single-user environment,
MineScape License Server should be installed on the same machine as MineScape Client and MineScape
System Services.
Note: The MineScape License Server web interface and the 'lmadmin' Windows service are also
automatically configured as part of the installation. The 'lmadmin' service allows other machines to
retrieve licenses. Before you can use your licenses, you must first add a license file to your license server
installation and then restart your license server.
Activity Steps
1. Locate the folder that was used to store the downloaded installation file.
2. Double-click on the installation file.
3. Click Install.
Click Settings to configure the server port numbers. Configuring server ports numbers is optional,
however, it must be done prior to installing MineScape License Server.
4. Click Exit.
Activity Steps
1. Locate the folder that was used to store the downloaded installation file.
2. Double-click on the installation file.
The MineScape installation splash screen displays.
3. Click Settings.
The Settings dialog displays.
4. Review the port numbers for the Web Port and License Server Port fields. If needed, custom port
numbers can be entered. We recommend that you keep a record of the values entered when using
custom server port numbers.
5. Click OK.

Composite The composite host ID of the machine that the licenses will be hosted on. The
HostID composite host IDs can be listed using the MineScapeHostID.exe tool.
Host Name The machine's host name excluding the domain information.
The following information needs to be included to generate a nodelocked license for MineScape 5.9 and
earlier:
Ethernet Address The physical/ethernet address of the machine that the licenses will be hosted on.
The ethernet address can be listed using the MineScapeHostID.exe tool.
Host Name The machine's host name excluding the domain information.
3. Position the mouse cursor over the icon and select License(s).
The License Information page displays.

Note: To support backwards compatibility, license files generated for MineScape 5.9 and earlier need to
be placed under the '\licenses\mincom\' folder. License files generated for MineScape 5.10 through to
MineScape 6.1 need to be placed under '\licenses\abb\' folder.
If more than one license file has been generated for a machine, a copy of the new license file needs to be
placed under '\licenses\datamine\' folder. If required, the license file can be renamed. Duplication within
your license files will be correctly handled by the license system.
The following activity assumes that a MineScape license file has already been generated for the
MineScape license server.
Activity Steps
1. Double-click on the MineScape Licenses desktop icon.
A new Windows Explorer window is opened and it automatically points to the '\licenses\' folder.
2. Copy the license file to the open directory.

Installation is slow
• Ensure enough RAM is available on the current machine. All open applications should be closed
before running the installation.
• Anti-virus software can result in slow installation speeds and should be temporarily disabled.
Note: Contact your local network administrator or support desk before attempting to disable anti-
virus software.
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable are now
included with the MineScape installer. These components are automatically installed as part of the
MineScape installation process.
Note: In rare cases, Microsoft's KB2999226 update will need to be installed manually on systems
prior to Windows 10 (including Windows Server 2008/2012) before proceeding with the MineScape
and License Server installations. The absence of this update may result in the installation process
hanging for a period of time before reporting a failure to install. The update can be found at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2999226.
