Subject: Proposal letter for the project on “Online Shopping System”.
Dear Sir,
Thank you for offering me an opportunity to make a real life project based on my core subject that is WPSI. In
this respect, I would like to inform you that I have decided to make a project on Online Shopping System. I have
studied about the various aspects of this system and make a proposal accordingly which is enclosed herewith for
your kind perusal.
May I, therefore, pray and hope that you will consider my proposal sympathetically and allow me to make a
project on my proposed topic.
Sincerely,

Proposal
Background of the project:
Bangladesh is an overpopulated country, and the population growth is rising rapidly. Especially the cities and
towns are getting populated so rapidly day by day. For these reasons traffic gridlock is increasing and becomes a
curse for city dwellers. Going out for shopping is very hard for them. The use and user of internet is also rising
day by day. Nowadays, peoples are using internet for communication, collaboration, and many other things that
done online. Nowadays, ECommerce has become a famous phenomenon in the world. Online Shopping System
is one kind of ecommerce.
The idea of online shopping mall originates from ecommerce. E commerce is in practice in most of the developed
countries of the world such as USA, UK, and Europe etc. where shopping concept is changing from physical
purchase to virtual buying. This way not only the customer has more options but companies also enjoy an
increase in their sale due to increased online outlet.
Online shopping is the process of buying goods and services from merchants who sell on the internet through a
website. Shoppers can visit this web based stores from their homes and shop as they sit in the front of the
computer. Consumers buy variety of items from online stores. Books, cloths, shoes, household appliances,
electronic appliances and many other 100’s of product’s consumers can buy from online store.
Objectives:
The main objective of online shopping is to provide a system which controls the selling of items through online.
The users will consume less amount of time through shopping online rather than visiting the shop directly. The
user can buy items sitting anywhere, any time around the world. It’s a 365/24 service. The transactions will be
taken care by the system all the time. Storing of data is easy. The system is user friendly and easy to use. All the
important data will be stored in the database and it avoids any miscalculation.
My Online Shopping project will fulfill the following objectives:
✪ To provide details information about various products in different category.
✪ Customer can purchase products online.
✪ Customer can sign up and become a member to get extra facilities.
✪ Customer can login to get various information about products and purchase the suitable product with price
and quality comparison.
✪ Customer can pay online, so security is must therefore online shopping provide secure transactions.
✪ After sale shopping authority also provide after sales service if customer face any problem.
✪ Users will get facility of cart system.
✪ They will get home delivery services of the product.
✪ There will be Email system to communicate with customer.
✪ Customer can chat with sales manager online and get current information about any product.
✪ There will be a search bar to search any product easily.
✪ There will be a facility to pay through Bkash, Ucash, or any kind of Mcash.
Feasibility study:
A feasibility study is a preliminary investigation of a proposed system to decide whether the system can run
smoothly with the organization, will the organization realize the benefits that are expected and to decide will the
organization go for it. It can certainly run smoothly with any organization and they will get expected benefits.
Also the users will enjoy using this application, make their life easy and save lots of time. The
feasibility study can be performed in three ways such as Operational Feasibility, Technical Feasibility and
Economical Feasibility.
Operational Feasibility:
Operational feasibility criteria measure the urgency of the problem or the acceptability of a solution (selection,
acquisition and design phases). We measure operational feasibility with the use of Unified Modeling Language
(UML). The Unified Modeling Language is a standard language for specifying, visualizing, constructing, and
documenting the artifacts of software systems, as well as for business modeling and other nonsoftware systems.
The UML represents a collection of best engineering practices that have proven successful in the modeling of large
and complex systems. The UML is a very important part of developing objects oriented software and the software
development process.
Technical Feasibility:
Technical feasibility determines whether the work for the project can be done with the existing equipment,
software technology and available personnel. Technical feasibility is concerned with specifying equipment and
software that will satisfy the user requirement. This project is feasible on technical remarks also, as the proposed
system is more beneficiary in terms of having a sound proof system with new technical components installed on
the system. The proposed system can run on any machines supporting Windows and Internet services and works
on the best software and hardware that had been used while designing the system so it would be feasible in all
technical terms of feasibility.
Economic Feasibility:
Economic feasibility determines whether there are sufficient benefits in creating to make the cost acceptable, or
is the cost of the system too high. So this signifies costbenefit analysis and savings. On the behalf of the cos
tbenefit analysis, the proposed system is feasible and is economical regarding its preassumed cost for making a
system. We classified the costs of Online Shopping according to the phase in which they occur. As we know that
the system development costs are usually onetime costs that will not recur after the project has been
completed.
For calculating the Development costs we evaluated certain cost categories.
✪ Personal costs
✪ Computer usage
✪ Supply and equipment’s costs
✪ Cost of any new computer equipment and software
Implementation Cost:
✪ Analysis of Online Shopping System.
✪ Core coding of the application.
✪ Database design.
✪ Front end design of all forms.
✪ Developing the business and database logic.
✪ Developing the test cases.
✪ Module level unit testing.
✪ Bug fixing and final release including server setup.
Timeline:
This complete project can be completed in 3 months approximately. Following are the key tasks involved in the
project and I am giving the approximate weeks to complet
e
✪ Critical analysis of Online Shopping System using academic journals and articles and this will take 1 week.
✪ UML modeling of the application will take 2 weeks.
✪ Database design which includes design of back end database and tables will take 2 weeks.
✪ Front end design of all the required forms and this will take 2 weeks.
✪ Developing the business and database logic and this will take 2 weeks.
✪ Development of test cases will take 1 week.
✪ Unit testing is done module level and this will take 2 weeks.
✪ Bug fixing and final release will take 1 week.
Technology to be used:
Front end
HTML
CSS
JavaScript
JQuery
Back end
PHP
MySQL
Hardware Configuration:
Processor Pentium Celeron 2.0 GHz
RAM 1 GB
Hard Disk 20 GB
Monitor 15” Color monitor
Key Board 122 Keys
Software Configuration:
Operating System Windows XP and higher
Language PHP
Database MySQL
Conclusion:
“Online Shopping System” application will be developed for human being to achieve maximum efficiency in
shopping online and to reduce the time taken to purchase items. It is designed for people to shop online rather
than searching for things by visiting the shop. It is a 365/24 service. The system uses HTML, CSS, JavaScript,
PHP and jQuery as front end and MySQL as a back end for the database. The system is strong enough to
withstand regressive daily operations under conditions where the database is maintained and cleared over a
certain time of span. The implementation of the system in the organization will considerably reduce data entry,
time and also provide readily calculated reports.
