Test I: Estimating Concrete Components (Cement, Sand and Gravel)

1. Using class B mixture of 40 kg cement, estimate the concrete components for the 4" thick park pavement as shown.

2. Estimate the concrete materials needed to construct a small residential structure with 8-1.0m x 1.0m x 0.30m footing
embedded 1.20m from the ground. Roof beam dimensions are 0.25m x 0.35m. Height of column (from ground to
top of roof beam) is 3.0m. Available cement is only 40-kg bag. Before calculating volumes, determine which grades
each member is. Let's assume that the footings, columns, and beams use class A and the slab uses class B.

Test II: Estimating number of CHB.

3. Determine the number of 6" thk. CHB required to construct the building firewall.

TEST III: Estimating mortar and plastering.

4. By continuing problem number 3 (Test II), determine the volume of mortar in between the layer of the blocks,
adopting the 12 mm (1/2”) uniform thickness of mortar. Estimate also the cement and sand necessary to plaster two
sides of the building firewall. Assuming that the plaster is 16 mm average thickness, determine the volume of the
plaster. Use volume method and area method for mortar and plaster estimation. Use Class B mixture @ 40 kg
cement.
