From the scaffolding project to Sketchfab

Here below, you will find systematic instructions for publishing your Scaffolding projects on Sketchfab site so that
you can share them with your customers or assemblers through Internet browser or Sketchfab APP.

We have chosen to use Sketchfab site for the following reasons:

 it is free for basic use

 it is possible to switch to the PROfessional version with a limited investment
 it is a steady standard
 it is constantly developed and integrated with new features
 it is equipped with many tools for different needs

You can make the 3D models for publication with any CAD, but better results are definitely obtained using
integrative softwares. For this reason, MEC CAD has chosen Simlab Composer since cost-quality relation is
extremely advantageous and it is a versatile and feature-rich software.

The Instructions below are a hint for the first steps in this useful and interesting technology in strong evolution,
available to everyone, non-expensive nor for specialized technicians only.

1. Create an account on Sketchfab site, it is free.

2. Design the structure with CAD, much better results are obtained using PON CAD

3. Transform the structure into solid 3D (MC-DETAILS command on PON CAD) and save with standard CAD
(DWG) format. If you also wish to export reference structures such as installations and buildings, they must
be designed as solid CAD objects.

To export large scaffolding projects we recommend NOT to transform the structure into solid 3D (MC-
DETAILS command) but to keep it in Wire-Frame format and export it to Sketchfab with DXF format (see
instructions below). This will make you lose the details and the 3D solids but will allow you to 'handle' the
structure much more easily with 3D WEB, VR and AR applications.

4. Only the most up-to-date scaffolding and formwork libraries can be used to export in solid 3D:
a. Generic v2018
b. Layher type multidirectional v2018
c. Doka
d. Haki type
e. General formworks
All other libraries will be updated to solid 3D and provided in the future.

5. Save the project in DWF (Design Web File) format to import it into Sketchfab.

File export formats.

Identifying the correct file format for switching to 3D, VR and AR viewers is the most difficult thing in this
stage of technology evolution. Certainly there will be improvements and more clarity in the future, but at
the moment we recommend performing simple tests to find the most suitable and best format supported
by your CAD.
We indicate these:
- DWF is a universal CAD export format.
- FBX has proven to be absolutely the best but not all CADs generate it.
- DXF is suitable for very large projects but loses all solids. It is possible to use it with PON CAD projects in
wire-frame view mode.

6. As an alternative to the previous point, if you prefer a higher quality result, proceed as follows.

The solution we use: Import the DWG file previously saved with CAD in a software to apply materials, manage
the geometry of the structure and export the drawing in FBX format (MEC CAD uses Simlab Composer but
other softwares such as 3ds Max, Cinema 4D or others can be used).

Export the structure in Simlab Composer as a Pack file (FBX + maps) or with the specific Sketchfab export
module.

Sketchfab has developed and made available direct export software modules for support programs: SimLab,
3dsMax, Cinema 4D; this is the download list: export modules.

In Simlab Composer, it is possible to use the automatic Sketchfab exporters procedure and the 3D model will
be loaded on Sketchfab without any other operations. By using the Pack file instead, it will be necessary to
load it from the Sketchfab site.

7. Load the Model saved in the DXF or DWF file or other from the UPLOAD section of your Sketchfab account

8. Look at the result: Model

9. You can send and share your models privately directly with customers or with your technicians on
a. Computer with browser
b. Tablet with browser or Sketchfab APP
c. Smartphone with browser or Sketchfab APP

The features offered by Sketchfab change according to the profiles used:

 Basic, freeware
 Professional
 Premium
 Business
 Enterprise
