devices, outlet boxes, junction boxes, and all other necessary material for a complete
operating system.

I. Smoke Detectors: Detectors shall be listed to UL Standard 268 and shall be

documented compatible with the control equipment to which it is connected.
Detectors shall be listed for this purpose by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. The
detectors shall obtain their operating power from the fire alarm panel supervised
detection loop. The operating voltage shall be 24 VDC (nominal). Removal of the
detector head shall interrupt the supervisory circuit of the fire alarm detection loop
and cause a trouble signal to be generated at the control panel.
1. Each detector shall have a flashing status indicating LED for visual
supervision. When the detector is actuated, the flashing LED will latch on
steady and at full brilliance. The detector may be reset by actuating the control
panel reset switch.
2. Furnish duct mounting units complete with detector housing and sampling tubes;
one alarm operated relay with a set of DPDT contacts rated 2 amp at 120V
installed and connected to the Fire Alarm System. Interconnect the motor
controls for operation in accordance with NFPA 90A.

J. Heat Detectors: Heat Detectors shall be semi recessed or surface mounted, solid
state with combination fixed temperature and rate of rise detection operating in
temperatures above 50°C or rate of rise of 10°C/minute. They shall have removable
protective cover to enable thorough cleaning and have the sensors protected against
mechanical damage. A built-in indicator in the detector base shall indicate detector
operation in alarm conditions.

K. Duct Mounted Smoke Detector: NFPA 72E, ionization type with auxiliary SPDT relay
contact, key-operated NORMAL-RESET-TEST switch, duct sampling tubes
extending width of duct, and visual indication of detector actuation, in duct-mounted
housing. Addressable analogue type.

L. Audio/Visual Alarm: Electromechanical Horn with integral Xenon Flash Device for
surface mounting on a standard 4 inch square box. 24VDC with audio output of not
less than 87 dba at 10 feet on axis.

M. Indications:
1. Provide zones in control panel for system individual box circuits and alarm
circuits only as indicated on the Drawings.
2. Indicate trouble in control panel when fault occurs on system. Incorporate
buzzer, LED, and silencing switch in central panel.
3. Lamp type, supervised flush mounted.
4. Where flush mounted, provide panel complete with steel trim and door with
captive holding studs.

N. Control Panel:
1. Steel construction, painted and hinged front cover with key lock.
2. Equip panel with:
a) Hinged door, front mounted viewing door with controls under lock and key.
b) Separate alarm and trouble light for each supervised circuit.

d) Separate pilot lamp to supervise power on.

e) System reset switch.
f) Signal horn silence switch.
g) Supplementary relay output modules.
3. Provide supervision of system as follows: A break or a ground on a fire alarm
detector, horn, wire circuit or operation of evacuation alarm horn silence switch
causes trouble signal and trouble lamp illumination. Trouble signal silence
switch silences buzzer but lamp remains illuminated. Upon restoration of the
system, the trouble signal to remain energized until trouble signal silence switch
is restored to normal. On loss of normal AC power, the trouble alarm operates
and illuminates emergency power supervisory pilot lamp. Operation of the
trouble alarm silence switch silences trouble signal but system trouble lamp
remains illuminated. Upon restoration of normal power, trouble alarm remains
energized until the silence switch is restored to normal.
4. Incorporate relays in control panel to initiate air handling unit control in
accordance with NFPA 90A.
5. Provide in control panel supervised box circuits and supervised alarm circuits as
required.

O. Power Supply requirements:

1. Take power supply from independent 120 volt, 15 ampere circuit.

2. Provide rectifier as part of control panel or as separate unit to automatically

maintain standby battery bank fully charged under normal conditions and sized to
recharge standby batteries in 12 hours maximum, following emergency
operation. Rectifier to operate the system when batteries are disconnected.

3. Stand-by power shall be Gel-Cell batteries with sufficient amp hour capacity to
operate the system under supervisory conditions with AC power disconnected for
24 hours and at the end of this period operate alarm devices for five (5) minutes.
