ABOUT THE FESTIVAL (Legend/History/Myth)
With its prime edition in 2011, the Sargaalaya Iringal
International Crafts Festival is an annual expo rated
as the best handicrafts expo in South India. The
festival showcases crafts by over 400 artisans, craft
making demonstration by 100 artisans as well as
traditional art forms of India performed by talented
artists. Apart from the various selected artisans of
India, including National and State award winners,
group of artisans from Thailand and Afghanistan have
also been part of the annual handicrafts festival
during the previous editions. The festival attracted
around 2 lakh visitors including international travellers
during the previous edition. Sargaalaya, the Kerala
Arts and Crafts village at Iringal in Kerala is an
initiative of the Department of Tourism, Government
of Kerala. The craft village has 60 stalls housed in
beautiful cottages that are environment-friendly and
ethnic in design.

Sargaalaya is an initiative of Kerala Tourism. Eminent
organizations in the handicrafts sector like NABARD,
Crafts Exhibition cum Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Central Silk
Sale Board, Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development
Artisan Recognition Corporation (LEPAKSHI), Handicrafts Development
Seminars Corporation of Kerala Ltd. and Kerala State Apex
Food Fest Handicrafts Society Ltd. have all been putting up stalls.
Traditional Dances Artisan Honoring Events, Crafts and Tourism Book Fair,
Cultural Programmes Kerala Food Festival etc. will be a part of the festival. It also
offers seminars on tourism and handicrafts and a variety of
traditional and cultural programmes including Kashmiri Rauf
Dance, Garba Dance, Bihu Dance and Mayoor Dance.
