Device Limitations and Known Issues

This is a list of problems or not supported features when the Innovation InnLine SIP device is
connected to the Mitel 3300.

Feature Problem Description

DND forwarding on SIP If a SIP phone is configured to Do Not Disturb and a call comes in, the
phones calling end will continue to hear ringing. If the phone is set to forward
while busy, the forwarding will not happen.
Recommendation: Have SIP devices set to call forward no answer in
the Call Rerouting table for the Forwarding to occur. Contact Mitel
support for more information and refer to DPAR MN00287812.

G.729 The Innovation InnLine does not support G.729. If the SIP device only
uses G.729, no call will be established with the Innovation InnLine.
Recommendation: Use G.711 as the audio codec. Contact Innovation
support for more information.

Teleworker and Mobile Telework and Mobile Extension were not tested with the Innovation
Extension InnLine due to exigencies in the lab setup.

Device Recommendations
The Innovation InnLine is recommended to be deployed in Device Base.

Configuration Notes
This section is a description of how the SIP Interop was configured. These notes should give
a guideline how a device can be configured in a customer environment and how the
Innovation InnLine was configured in our test environment.

We recommend that the Innovation InnLine is configured in Device Mode. You will configure
the Device mode in the SIP Device Capabilities Form as described in this section.

Disclaimer: Although Mitel has attempted to setup the interop testing facility as closely
as possible to a customer premise environment, implementation setup could be
different onsite. YOU MUST EXERCISE YOUR OWN DUE DILIGENCE IN REVIEWING,
planning, implementing, and testing a customer configuration.

3300 ICP Configuration Notes

The following steps show how to program a 3300 ICP to connect with the Innovation InnLine.

Network Requirements
• There must be adequate bandwidth to support the voice over IP. As a guide, the Ethernet
bandwidth is approx 85 Kb/s per G.711 voice session and 29 Kb/s per G.729 voice
session (assumes 20ms packetization). As an example, for 20 simultaneous SIP
sessions, the Ethernet bandwidth consumption will be approx 1.7 Mb/s for G.711 and
0.6Mb/s. Almost all Enterprise LAN networks can support this level of traffic without any
special engineering. Please refer to the 3300 Engineering guidelines for further
information.
• For high quality voice, the network connectivity must support a voice-quality grade of
service (packet loss <1%, jitter < 30ms, one-way delay < 80ms).

Assumptions for the 3300 ICP Programming

• The SIP signaling connection uses UDP on Port 5060.

Licensing and Option Selection – SIP Licensing

Ensure that the 3300 ICP is equipped with enough SIP Device licenses for the connection of
SIP end points. This can be verified within the License and Option Selection form.

Multiline IP Set Configuration

On the Mitel 3300 ICP, a SIP device can be programmed either in the User Configuration
form or the Multiline IP Set Configuration form and are programmed as a “Generic SIP
Phone”. Enterprise Manager can also be used to provision where this application is installed.

The Login PIN is the SIP authentication password and the username is the DN. The Number
and Login PIN must match the information in the Innovation InnLine configuration. All other
field names should be programmed according to the site requirements or left at default.

Class of Service Assignment

The Class of Service Options Assignment form is used to create or edit a Class of Service
and specify its options. Classes of Service, identified by Class of Service numbers, are
referenced by the Station Service Assignment form for the SIP devices.

Many different options may be required for your site deployment, but these are the options
that are required to be changed from the default for a Generic SIP Device to work with the
3300 ICP.

• HCI/CTI/TAPI Call Control Allowed set to Yes

• HCI/CTI/TAPI Monitor Allowed set to Yes
• Message Waiting set to Yes
• Conference Call set to Yes
• Public Network Access via DPNSS set to Yes
• Auto Campon Timer is blanked (no value)
• Suppress Simulated CCM after ISDN Progress set to Yes

SIP Device Capabilities Assignment

This form provides configuration options that can be applied to various types of SIP devices.
The association between the SIP device and the form is similar to how the Class of Service
options work. The SIP Device Capabilities number provides a SIP profile that can be applied
to particular SIP devices to allow for alternate capabilities as recommended through the Mitel
interop process.

In the Device Capabilities form, program a SIP Device Capabilities Number for the Innovation
InnLine device. Ensure that Replace System based with Device based In-Call Feature is set
to ‘Yes’.

Station Service Assignment

Use the Station Service Assignment form to assign the previously configured Class of Service
and SIP Device Capability number to each of the Innovation InnLine in the 3300. This form
utilizes Range Programming.

Select the Innovation InnLine device number then select Change. Enter the previously
configured SIP Device Capability number and Class of Service for Day, Night 1 & Night 2.

Reroute Assignment
Mitel recommends that call forwarding is programmed using the Call rerouting forms of the
3300.

Call Rerouting is configured at the system to allow for extensions to forward on different
conditions to different extensions, i.e forward to voicemail when no answer. The following is a
description how to configure call.

Program the Call Rerouting First Alternative Assignment form with the destination of the call
forwarding and the options (Normal, This, Last). Please see the 3300 help files for more info.

There is also a Call Rerouting Second Alternative Assignment form for more complicated
forwarding needs.

Figure 8 – Call Rerouting Alternative Assignment

If any Call Forwarding Always is required then the Call Rerouting Always Alternative
Assignment form would need to be programmed.

Innovation InnLine Configuration Notes

The following has been taking from Innovation configuration document for connecting InnLine
to the 3300 ICP.

NETWORK CONNECTIONS

On the back of the InnLine IP voicemail system, there are four places you could plug a
network cable into. Connect the network cable (coming from the Layer 2 switch the Mitel
3300 is using) to the top left hand corner network connection.

VOICEMAIL PROGRAMMING:

InnLine IP Configuration Utility (IIPConfig)

On the desktop, open the file InnLine IP Config and review the following information:

15
Mitel Technical Configuration Notes for Innovation InnLine

SIP Proxy Address: This is the IP Address of the 3300 controller. The default value is
192.168.1.2. If the IP address of your 3300 controller is different, change this field to reflect its
address.

SIP Password: This is the User PIN that you programmed for the Generic SIP Phones. If you
programmed a different pin number then the default value of 12345, change the field to reflect
what you programmed.

When done, click Save, then Cancel to exit. In order for these changes to take, you must
stop InnLine IP application, and then re-start it (by double-clicking the InnLine IP icon located
on the desktop.

If no changes are needed after reviewing this form, click Cancel to exit the form.

16

Voice Port configuration

Go to Do>Configure System>Voice Ports and double-click the Port Wizard (choose Yes to
run the port wizard at this time)

If your SIP extensions are concurrent, enter the first number in both the 1st Extension and Sip
Alias fields. Click OK. The port wizard will now automatically populate these fields in the other
Port screens.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The last port is always set to Out-bound only. This port must not be
included in the hunt group. If you need more than the last port to perform out-bound events,
then these extensions cannot be in the hunt group either. The only two settings for the Call
Direction field is “In-bound only” or “Out-bound only”. There no longer is a “In-bound/Out-
bound” setting.

Testing:

17
Mitel Technical Configuration Notes for Innovation InnLine

Testing direct call integration (From any station)

Place a call from a station to the hunt group access code for voicemail. The display
information will show what station number is calling.

Testing call forward integration

Call forward one guest extension on a “busy/no answer” to the voicemail hunt-group for this
test. Call forwarding may be programmed from the attendant console (provided its COS
allows this function), or from the station itself.

From a staff extension, call the guest extension, allowing it to forward to voicemail. The
display information will show both the calling and called party.

Perform this forwarding test via a trunk (outside line) as well.

Testing message lamps

To test message lamps, enter the MESSAGE WAITING – ACTIVATE feature access code in
Indicator On Dial String Prefix field, and the MESSAGE WAITING – DEACTIVATE feature
access code in the Indicator Off Dial String Prefix field . In the example below, we are using
75 for ON and 76 for OFF.

18

Check under the Feature Access Code Assignment form in the Mitel 3300 programming to
verify that you entered the correct Message Waiting codes

After confirming that the correct Message Waiting codes, test a message lamp by going to
System > Tenants > Tenant 1 > Mailboxes. Double click the Set MWI(s) icon.

19
Mitel Technical Configuration Notes for Innovation InnLine

Enter a valid extension number and test turning the message lamp on and off. The following
information will be displayed on the “Monitor” portion of the system’s main screen (example
below is of turning a message lamp on):

Call forward / Re-route all voicemail users

After all call integration and message lamp functionality has been tested, proceed with call
forwarding all guestroom extensions and selected staff extension users to the hunt-group
access code that will be for voicemail, so calls will forward (or re-route) to the voicemail on a
busy or a no answer at the station.
