Respected Guests & Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen Assalamualaikum and


Good afternoon. I am of the Civil Engineering Deprtment to the seminar on
“Subsoil investigation and bearing capacity of foundation: a practical
approach. It is both an honor and a privilege to stand before you today and I
warmly welcome you to this learned community.

2. Now, I would like to request our Chair of today’s session, Chairman of the Civil
Engineering Department to come forth along with our Honorable Chief Guest,
Respected keynote speaker and other distinguished guests to kindly occupy their
chairs.

3. Let us have a big round of applause to welcome them.

4. Before starting the program, I would like to call Md. Abdur Rahman From CEN 3
batch to recite some verses from the Holy Quran.

5. Thank you Md. Abdur Rahman for this sacred recitation.

6. Today it is a great moment for all of us that we are honored by the presence of the
respected Chief Engineer of Chittagong City Corporation Lt. Col Mohiuddin
Ahmed and I thank him for kindly being the key speaker at this session. We fully
appreciate you finding the time to be with us despite your tight schedule as your
presence underlines the seriousness for enhancing the knowledge on geotechnical
engineering which will certainly make this seminar fruitful and productive.

7. Now I am taking the honor to call upon our Chief Guest Honorable Vice Chancellor
Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Anwar to give away the welcome speech.
8. Thank you Sir for your encouraging and valuable words.

9. Ladies & Gentleman, with the permission of the Chair of today’s session, I would
like to introduce our keynote speaker Engineer Chittagong City Corporation, former
Associate Professor, Military Institute of Science and Technology who has a wide
range of professional experiences and in executing verities of civil engineering
construction and maintenance projects.

He is also an expert on Coastal Embankment protection by effective use of


Geotextile, Construction of membrane structures with light steel trusses, Deep
foundation – Geotechnical analysis and design, Dynamic soil properties, Dynamic
soil-structure interaction, Earthquake and slope stability and Soil liquefaction
problems and so on. Now Without further ado, let us welcome For a sound structure,
sound foundations are a must and for making sound foundations, the type and
strength of sub soil which, ultimately, is going to support the foundations, are a very
crucial factor. Most of the time, the buildings fail due to bad or weak foundations

10.We have been listening to eminent speaker deliberating in the areas of subsoil
investigation and bearing capacity of foundation. All these valuable insights gave us
a new perspective that one should adopt while discussing these issues.

11. Now, may I take the opportunity to request our today’s Chief Guest our Honorable
ViceChancellor of Port City International University
