1. Are 𝐴𝐵 subtends an angle 𝜃 at the centre of circle radius 𝑟.

Find the arc length 𝐴𝐵 and sector area when:

(a) 𝑟 = 4 cm, 𝜃 = 30°,

(b) 𝑟 = 10 cm, 𝜃 = 45°, 𝑟

5. The length of the minor and major arcs of a circle are 5.2 cm and 19.8 respectively. Find:

(a) the radius of the circle,

(b) the angle subtended at the centre by the minor arc.

6. The length of an arc of a circle is 12 cm. The corresponding sector area is 108 cm2. Find:

(a) the radius of the circle,

(b) the angle subtended at the centre of the circle by the arc.

7. The length of an arc of a circle is 7.5 cm. The corresponding sector area is 37.5 cm2. Find:

(a) the radius of the circle,

(b) the angle subtended at the centre of the circle by the arc.

8. In the diagram the arc length is 𝑙 and the sector area is 𝐴.

9. Figure shows a circle 𝐵𝑃𝐶 with centre 𝑂. The point A is such that 𝐴𝐶 = 9 cm and 𝐴𝐶 and 𝐴𝐵 are

tangents to the circle. 𝐴𝑃𝑂 is a straight line and ∠𝑂𝐴𝐶 = 23°.

Calculate the length, in cm to 3 significant figures, of:

(a) 𝑂𝐴, (b) 𝐴𝑃, (c) the chord 𝐵𝑃,

(d) Calculate the size, in degrees, of ∠𝐴𝐶𝑃.

(e) Find the area, in cm2 to 3 significant figures, of the shaded region 𝐵𝐴𝑃.

10. In Figure, 𝐴 and 𝐵 are two points on a circle with centre 𝑂.

The line 𝐴𝐶 is the tangent to the circle at 𝐴 and 𝑂𝐵𝐶 is a straight line.

𝐴𝐶 = 15 cm and ∠𝑂𝐶𝐴 = 25°.

(a) Calculate the area, in cm2 to 3 significant figures, of the circle.

The region inside triangle 𝑂𝐴𝐶 but outside the circle is shown shaded in Figure.

(b) Calculate the area, in cm2 to 3 significant figures, of this shaded region.

11. 𝐵𝑂𝐶 is a sector of a circle, centre 𝑂, with ∠𝐵𝑂𝐶 = 30°.

The sector 𝐴𝑂𝐷 of the circle, centre 𝑂, such that 𝑂𝐷𝐶 and 𝑂𝐴𝐵 are

straight lines, is removed from the sector 𝐵𝑂𝐶 to form the region 𝑆,

shown shaded in the diagram. Given that 𝑂𝐴 = 𝐴𝐵 and that the

perimeter of 𝑆 is 10 m, calculate, giving your answer in terms of 𝜋, the length, in m, of 𝐴𝐵.

12. The diagram shows a sector 𝑂𝐴𝐵 of a circle, centre 𝑂.

𝑂𝐴 = 𝑂𝐵 = 3.6cm, Angle 𝐴𝑂𝐵 = 85°.

Calculate the perimeter, in cm to 3 significant figures, of the sector 𝑂𝐴𝐵.

13. A metal plate in the form of the shaded region in the figure is to be produced from a right-angled

isosceles triangle 𝐴𝐵𝐶. ∠𝐴𝐵𝐶 = 90°, 𝐴𝐵 = 𝐵𝐶 = 12 cm. The two parts to be removed are sectors

of circles centred at 𝐴 and 𝐶, each of radius 6 cm. Calculate, to 1 decimal place,

(a) the combined area, in cm2, of the two sectors,

(b) the area, in cm2, of the metal plate.

14. The figure shows a right circular cone which has a ball of radius 4 cm

wedged inside it. ∠𝐴𝐵𝐶 = 20°. Calculate:

(a) the length, in cm to the nearest cm, of 𝑂𝐶,

(b) the area, in cm2, of the nearest cm2.

15. In fig, and are tangents to the circle 𝑇𝑅𝑆 with centre 𝐶, 𝑃𝑇 = 12 cm and ∠𝑇𝑃𝑆 = 60°.

(a) Explain why:

(i) ∠𝑃𝑇𝑆 = 90°, (ii) ∠𝑇𝑃𝐶 = 30°.

(b) Calculate, to 3 significant figures,

(i) the length, in cm, of 𝑇𝐶,

(ii) the area, in cm2, of the shaded region.

16. A circle, centre 𝑂, has radius 15 cm.

The chord 𝐴𝐵 subtends an angle of 100° at the centre of the circle.

(a) Calculate the perimeter, in cm to 3 significant figures, of the shaded region.

(b) Calculate the area, in cm2 to 3 significant figures, of the shaded region.

17. Figure shows the design of a company sign.

The two circles each have the same centre 𝑃.

The radius of the smaller circle is 2 m,

the radius of the larger circle is 6 m and ∠𝑄𝑃𝑅 = 40°.

(a) Find and simplify an expression in terms of 𝜋 for the area of the shaded regional 𝐴.

(b) Show that the area of the shaded region 𝐵 is equal to the area of the shaded region 𝐴.

18. Figure shows a circle 𝐴𝐵𝐶, centre 𝑂.

The line 𝐴𝐶 is a diameter, 𝐴𝑂 = 6 cm and ∠𝑂𝐶𝐵 = 72°.

(a) Write down the size of ∠𝐴𝑂𝐵.

(b) Calculate the area, in cm2 to 3 significant figures, of the shaded region.

19. Figure shows a cross-section of a horizontal cylindrical pipe of centre 𝑂 and of radius 17 cm.

The shaded region represents water in the pipe to a depth of 9 cm.

Calculate: (a) the length, in cm of 𝐴𝐵,

20. 𝑂𝑃𝑄 is a sector of a circle with centre 𝑂 and of radius 10 cm, ∠𝑃𝑂𝑄 = 80°, 𝑅 is the midpoint of 𝑂𝑃,

𝑆 is the mimdpoint of 𝑂𝑄 and 𝑅𝑆 is an arc of the circle with centre 𝑂.

Calculate the area, to the nearest cm2, of the shaded region 𝑃𝑄𝑆𝑅.

21. 𝐴, 𝐵 and 𝐶 are three points on a circle, centre 𝑂. The radius of the circle is 12 cm, 𝐴𝐶 is a

diameter and ∠𝐴𝑂𝐵 = 50°. Calculate the area, in cm2 to 3 significant figures, of:

(a) the sector 𝐴𝑂𝐵,

(b) the triangle 𝑂𝐵𝐶,

(c) the shaded region.
