WHAT'S NEW:
2. FICTION---> is Literature created from the imagination, not presented as fact, though it may be
based on a true story or situation. Types of literature in the fiction include the
novel, short story and novella.
NON-FICTION---> is based on facts and the author's opinion about a subject. The a purpose of
non-fiction writing is to inform and sometimes to persuade. Its examples are
biographies, articles from textbooks and magazines and newspapers.

ACTIVITY 1:
The Tristan Cafe is an example of a Flash Fiction in Literary Genre. It is a Flash Fiction because the story
was incredibly brief. The narrative is little under 1000 words. Only sections of the complete story can be viewed
in the text.
Flash fiction is a genre of prose narrative in which the stories are very short and self-contained. It has a
word count that runs from 5 to 1000 words. A work of Flash Fiction, also known as a short narrative, micro story,
or nanotale, isn't merely a pared-down short story.
ASSESSMENT 1:
Tristan Cafe is an example of 21st Century literature which falls under Flash Fiction. The story of Tristan
Cafe is all about a two person expressing their love and emotion to each other. The first part written describe
how the girl made her decision that really broke her. We must analyze the story well in order to understand it's
exact message /meaning. The last part gives narrative insight.

1. Genre consist of four elements or parts: character, story, plot and setting. An equation for

genres can have sub-categories according to the specific topic of the story.

4. The main characteristics of modern literature can be categorized into individualism, absurdity,
symbolism, and formality.
5. Traditional literature usually follows a strict set of rules in writing, whereas, modern literature
is freer, and sometimes, mixes different qualities of literary work to form a more creative and
innovative piece.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES:
1. Picture A is a Text-Talk Novel while Picture B is a Drama (tragedy).
2. Characterictics of the Text-Talk Novel include its length, limited number of characters, subject
matter, and tendency to begin in the middle of things while tragedies share certain
characteristics: Protagonist who are courageous and noble and must face significant internal or external
challenges. A heartbreaking ending that often leads to a catharsis for the audience
and gives them hope for mankind. Both are literary genres.
