NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE LAC SESSION HIGHLIGHTING PROVISION OF

REMEDIATION/INTERVENTION FOR LEARNERS DURING THE FACE TO FACE
CLASSES AND BLENDED LEARNING APRROACH

Bangsud Integrated School conducted a LAC session on the provision of

remediation/intervention for learners for the upcoming face to face classes and
blended learning approach. The said activity was attended by all the teachers,
spearheaded by Arjun D. Cerro, SHS/JHS Coordinator. The one-day activity was
divided into two sessions, the first topic was all about remediation and intervention
during face to face classes (morning session) and the training session in the
afternoon about the blended learning approach. Some of the important points during
the LAC sessions shared by the speaker includes important things to remember in
conducting remedial lessons and giving intervention. Remedial lessons can be
made in the form of tutorial, mentoring, coaching, or other ways of delivering the
organized learning experiences, whichever is applicable in the context of the learner.
DO 13, s. 2018 also allows for the use of a combination of face-to-face, modular, or
online learning as delivery modes of instruction depending on the learner's profile. As
mandated by DO 8, s. 2015, a learner who receives a grade lower than 75 in any
subject must be given intervention through remediation and must pass the said
remedial classes to be promoted to the next grade level. The guidelines for such
remedial classes are stipulated in DO 13, s. 2018. Alternatively, learners with failing
marks in any learning area may instead be required to attend make-up classes
during the SY 2021-2022. Schools that opt to conduct such make up classes in place
of remedial classes during the summer term shall be required to prepare and submit
an implementation plan before the start of the school year, subject to the approval of
their SDS. This plan shall allow learners to stay in school beyond their regular class
schedules to attend after-class interventions in the subject area/ s in which they
failed. As part of the learning continuity plan of DepEd, schools may also offer a six-
week enrichment class to learners who had a hard time focusing in their lessons in

the previous; needed more time to understand concepts; and received low grades.
Learners who meet the above criteria shall attend enrichment classes on a voluntary
basis. It is also stressed that in giving intervention, it must be timely and in line with
the least learned competencies results . Immediate feedback is also encouraged to
ensure close monitoring of the students' progress.

In the afternoon, the coaching, mentoring and training relevant to blended

learning approach was shared by the speaker. The Department of Education
(DepEd)said that the blended learning approach in the delivery of basic education
will be implemented this upcoming school year. Face to face and modular learning
will be utilized in alternative basis. It is designed to enable the schools to limit face-
to-face learning, ensure social distancing, and decrease the volume of people
outside the home at any given time. Students will be divided into two sets to limit
physical interaction and each of this sets will be adapting the two modes of
instruction, the face to face instruction and distance learning. In the later part of the
session, teachers are tasked to list their best practices to maximize the use of
blended learning in this time of pandemic. The one-day LAC session ended with the
submission of outputs by the teachers and sharing of insights. Mr. Adam B. Besinga,
the school’s school head then gave his additional inputs and word of appreciation for
the speaker and to the teachers for actively participating in the said activity firmly
believing that each of the teachers are now equipped with the knowledge and skills
to face new challenges for the transition from distance learning to face to face
instruction.
