about me
HEY, I'M NUSHY.

You guessed it - I'm a First Gen! I've been there, done that and now I'm here holding an

offer into Medicine, the first from my family (that I know of). It's been a very challenging

and difficult journey, but I can assure you that the feeling of satisfaction and pride when

your efforts pay off is worth looking forward to. I cannot wait for you to join me.

I probably wouldn't have made it myself if Widening Participation didn't exist, so this

eBook is my way of giving back and hopefully inspiring the rest of you to show that it is

absolutely possible to get into Medical or Dental School even if you don't come from the

conventional route, regardless of the rejections or obstacles you encounter. Everybody

has their own journey, and there isn't one, single, correct way to get into Medical/Dental

School. Last year I shared a similar compilation of these resources, and it went

somewhat viral with Aspiring Medics, Parents, Teachers, Tutors and more people than I

ever expected. This year, I've expanded the number of and quality of resources for you.

I'm graduating soon with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences, whilst previously working

as a Healthcare Assistant (cheeky plug: I also have a HCA eBook that you can purchase

should you be interested in gaining some 'hands on' work experience) on the front-line

and currently a COVID Vaccinator, as the pandemic starts to take a positive turn.

AIMS
Socio-economic disadvantages are challenging - not coming from a family of physicians

or having the right contacts, coming from a low-income, refugee or asylumn seeker

background, English not being your 1st language, your parents not being highly educated,

studying at state schools with poor records of medical admissions or low quality

teaching. Each of these barriers weigh heavy on students with immense passion for

Medicine/Dentistry and yet don't have access to the appropriate physical or emotional

support.

The list of barriers are endless but I don't believe this should restrict any aspiring

individual from studying the subjects they are most passionate about, and being put-off

vocations that have been traditionally reserved for the "elite". Nor do I believe having the

lack of finances to access the right tools should be an obstacle.

Luckily, Medical & Dental Schools and students have been actively making an effort to

encourage Widening Participation over the years - and it's because of this work ethic -

that there are now SO many free and affordable resources scattered across the internet.

This eBook is a compilation of exactly that and the credit goes to all the people sourced

in here who are actively making a difference. If you do end up using their resources,

please drop them a thank you for generously making their material available.

In this eBook, you'll find tons of free resources, one or the other that suits you best and

can carry you from beginning to end of the intense application journey that is Medicine

and Dentistry. These free resources should help you start preparing for the admissions

tests, writing a personal statement, perfecting your interview technique, finding a mentor

to guide you or taking advantage of bursaries and scholarships you're eligible for. I

personally recommend you invest with real money in some of these, for stronger support.

The range of material available is huge and I highly advise you take advantage of it -

don't be afraid to even reach out to some of the creators personally and ask for

personalised advice!
