Objectives
The students are expected to:
a. recognize the difference in the physical and chemical properties between the Earth and its
neighboring planets
Lecture
The earth is our home. It is a unique planet in the solar system where life is possible.
The earth is located at a favorable distance from the sun.
The earth is the only planet on which water is found in liquid, solid and gaseous form. It has one moon.
It is therefore called the blue planet.
70% of the earth is saltwater.
The earth is surrounded by a blanket of gases called the atmosphere where 78% is nitrogen, 21% is
oxygen and 1% are other gases.
