- SURVEYOR’S SUMMARY-
Present at Survey
The surveyor boarded the 53,999 DWT LPGC vessel UMM LAQHAB whilst she was anchorage
at Explosive Anchorage at Balboa - PANAMA, 03th October 2020 to conduct a vessel general
condition inspection on behalf of the client, with PRE-PURCHASE intention.
Inspector embarked the vessel and cleared the security inspection and identification checks
at 09:30 LT. An opening meeting and discussion with the Master, Chief Mate and Chief
Engineer was conducted in the Ship’s office, to establish the scope of the inspection and
inspection plan. The ship’s crews were aware of the condition survey and rendered good co-
operation.
The vessel is a “Self-Supporting Prismatic Liquefied Petroleum Gas Carrier” vessel built in
JULY 14TH 2008 at the HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES, OFFSHORE YARD, ULSAN. The vessel
was built under supervision of class Det Norske Veritas and currently classed with Det Norske
Veritas.
She is classed as +1A1 Tanker for Liquefied GAS OPP-F E0 ICS MAUT-OC PLUS-1 BIS TMON
NAUTICUS.
The vessel has 225.28 m length overall and beam of 36.63 m. The gross tonnage is
47,058.00, and net tonnage 15,944.00. She is owned by Umm Laqhab LPG Shipping
Company L.L.C. with business place at the address SHOUMOUKH TOWERS (B), C- Ring Road,
P.O. Box 22271, DOHA,STATE OF QATAR- Qatar with the following contact details:

The vessel has a single diesel engine driven screw propulsion of 13,736 KW total power and

with no Bow Thruster. The accommodation block situated near aft on Upper Deck with the
machinery spaces below. Three auxiliary engines with 1,260.00 KW of capacity power were
fitted for the shipboard electrical and Gas carrier equipment such as cargo pumps and Inert
gas generator etc. needs. The overall construction is in compliance with Class Rules and
International Standards such as IGC rules, SOLAS, MARPOL, COLREG and other conventions
in force, and also the management company is in compliance of the required ISM, ISPS.

The vessel had arrived in Ballast condition with a Next port of call is USA to load LPG. All her
trading and statutory certificates are in date without overdue.
The vessel is of a good build quality and her overall condition was fair to good showing her
excellent maintenance. This was assessed to be with timely maintenance being carried out by
the vessel’s teams and reflected in the ship’s machinery space and weather space all this jobs
clearly registered in the AMOS II maintenance System. Vessel is fully networking cabled
with WIF-FI Services all around the vessel accommodation. Due to short survey time and
imminent departure time, survey of ballast tanks are not available, hence it is not possible
to evaluate the hull condition of ballast tanks and invisible spaces.
The shell plate coating was sighted in general normal condition with rusted areas especially
at the rubber fender contact areas and where the TUG boats use to push the vessel.
Misc. deck fittings, such as pipe clamps and deck gratings, showed signs of rusting and
wastages which was clearly observed, are actually being attended by the crews. Repair
painting works for the deck are in progress all around the vessel with excellent results.
Extended paint inventory from JOTUM was found on board.
The accommodation is built to International Standards and of good quality and finishing, well
laid out and was well maintained. From the knowledge and experience of this surveyor this
vessel had been built with the TOP STANDARDS of the Industry and quality of her is very
notoriously.
The superstructure block was cosmetically well maintained. All lifesaving appliances and
safety equipment were found to be maintained within servicing periods marked in the
equipment and components for easy guiding of surveyors.
The Engine room was found IN EXCEPTIONAL WELLL MAINTENANCE CONDITION, clean, tidy
and bilge spaces were COMPLETELY CLEAN and no stain or Oil marks where sighted (this
surveyor walk all around the bilges floor and found totally clean). The engine control room
was tidy and no alarms on the panel. Bridge control is in use while local control of the engine
can also be conducted. The MSB is situated in the engine control room and sighted with
adequate insulation levels.
The boiler was reported in good condition. No abnormal alarms shown on the control panel.
One (1) auxiliary engine of the 3 installed HHI - Man BW L28 / 32H 6 cylinders, 4-stroke in-
line engines was running at the time of inspection. All machineries were in operational stated
and the engine room gave a very good impression (looks a recently build vessel).

The steering gear is a ram type two-motor electro-hydraulic system, the rams were well oiled
with no leakages from the gland packing.
Mooring equipment were adequately maintained, with special fiber ropes, all weel winded in
their respective drum, with Stainley Steel breaking surface and well protected and maintenance
fittings and control. No leakage in any one.
Safety signs, equipment and systems appeared in good order. The bridge was clean and all various
navigation posters were in place and prominently displayed. All navigation and communication
equipment were reported in good order and functioning as required.
The officers and crews were also assessed to be experienced. They gave a general good impression
that they cared for the vessel and had kept her in good order and operational condition.

Hull
Description:
The vessel is moored at the LPG terminal, so the extent of the observation for the outer shell
of fore-ship and after-ship area are limited. The hull coating as observed in the mid part on
the starboard side of the vessel was in not so bad appearance.
Both anchors were housed fully and their conditions were normal.
Forecastle Deck
Description:
The forecastle deck was in good condition and well maintained.
The windlasses and mooring winches were adequately greased and maintained.
Fairleads and rollers appeared in good condition. The rollers were well greased and could be
moved by hands when tested randomly.
The Bosun Store were clean and tidy with all stores in their place.
Main/Upper Deck
Description:
Vessel’s deck was in general well-maintained condition. Repair painting works are done widely.
The walkways on deck are clearly marked at both sides and catwalk on the pipe rack in the
ship center.
Poop Deck
Description:
The poop deck is well laid out with enough space for safe mooring movement of the crew.
Mooring equipment were maintained in good condition.
Helicopter Pad
Description:
Hose handling crane is fitted at the Cargo manifold area in mid-ship.
Description:
All deck mooring arrangement are electro-hydraulic driven. Mooring equipment at Forecastle
Deck and Aft Poop Deck were maintained in order.

Independent tanks for the carriage of liquid cargos at low temperature. Two submerged electric
motor driven cargo pumps are installed in individual cargo tank. Cargo tank is insulated with

heat loss.

The vessel is fitted a FPT, APT and Wing Ballast tanks, as per typical conventional LPG gas
carrier construction. All ballast tanks are coated and fitted with zinc anodes. No tank was
inspected due to owner not allowed. However this is a very young vessel with 2 year for next
s.s. which make us assume the tanks should be in excellent conditions.

Description:
The vessel is equipped with eight (8) vertical submerged cargo pumps driven by directly
coupled explosion-proof electric motor. Inert gas is supplied by Inert gas generator(IGG)
Description:
There are three different but connected spaces: First the working area for place deck equipment
to be used for Officer on dutty, also used as lobby. Secondly the Deck office with a large table,
Chief officer computer, all portable radio, portable gas detectors, anemometer indicators and
other components, used for operations and surveyors / agent attendance. Finaly the third area
is where the cargo operation mimic is located with tank control, remotely valve operated, Inert
Gas System control panel, Ballast System mimic and pumps control, Hydraulic Power Unit
Control, VHF remote, Remote control for WATER BALLAST TREATMENT SYSTEM, CARGO TANK
LOADING Control.

Description:
The superstructure was painted in white and appeared clean and fairly well maintained.
Monkey Island/Compass Deck was well laid out with adequate distance between the various
antennas. The navigation lights and the Christmas tree lights looked normal.
All safety signs and antenna markings were stenciled prominently.
Accommodation
Description:
The accommodation is built to basic International Standards, conventionally laid out,
adequately lit. Common spaces for the officers and crews were clean and tidy.
Description:
The bridge is of conventional straight layout arrangement with open bridge wings. It is well
kept and all required notifications and posters were in place. All navigation and communication
equipment were reported in good working order and functioning as required.
Passage plans and other records were up-to-date. Fire detection system was in normal
condition. Communication and navigation systems were reported in order.
Description:
The galley is well equipped and appeared clean and hygienic. All galley equipment were
reported to be in working order. Fire-fighting system in the galley was in good condition and
ready for use. The cold store rooms were stocked and the temperatures were within their
ranges.
Description:
Fire-fighting systems, fire pumps, emergency fire pump were in good operational condition
as reported by the crews. CO2 system in machinery spaces are in good condition.
Life-saving appliances, safety equipment and safety systems found in good order.
A BA compressor is provided on board. All equipment ewer inspected and verify
by this surveyor.
Description:
Vessel is using paper type maintenance records together with personal computer data
utilization.
Engine Room
Description:
Engine room was well-lit, generally kept clean, tidy and bilge spaces were without any oil
stains. All equipment were clean and save all were without traces of oil.
The engine control room was tidy and no major outstanding alarms were on the panel.
Electrical resistance of major circuits was checked and found satisfactory.
Overall the engine room gave a fairly good impression with no leaks nor housekeeping
negligence sighted.
Related to the Gas carrier equipment, Inert gas generator (IGG) with oil burning is installed
in Engine room.
Purifier and F.O supply unit is installed in open space in contrary to enclosed purifier room.
Purifier space was well kept with no sighted oil soaked insulation and save-alls clean and dry.
All laggings were in place and well secured. Auxiliary equipment i.e. pumps, compressors,
filters, heat exchangers were all in good condition.
Overhead crane in engine room is fitted and with normal operating condition.
The steering gear is a 4-ram two-motor electro-hydraulic system and no leakages were found
under hydraulic tanks and around the rams or the rudder stock as normal condition.
Boiler/Economiser
Description:
A composite vertical type boiler is fitted on-board. It was in normal operating condition. No
issues reported with its operations and reportedly no plugging was done.

Auxiliary Machinery
Description:
All auxiliary machineries were reported to be in normal running condition and was kept
generally neat and tidy. Compressors, pumps, bilge water separator, incinerator and sewage
treatment were appeared to be maintained well. Stern tube, with air guard system, did not
show any leaks and system was running normally.

Description:
The Engine control room was neat and tidy and the control panel did not show any major
alarms during inspection. UMS is widely applied.
All controls and starter panels reported in good condition.
The main switchboard is housed in the ECR and panel insulation readings was normal.
All safety and operational posters and signs were adequately displayed.
Description:
The overhead gantry cranes in engine room were reported in good running condition.
Description:
Steering gear is an electro-hydraulic type system with 4 rams connected to a tiller and single
rudder stock. The hydro pump units are 2 sets. The rams were well oiled with no leakages
from the gland packing. The steering gear pumps and motors appeared in good condition.

Main Engine
Description:
The main engine is a HYUNDAI B&W 6S60MC-C 2-stroke in-line slow speed diesel engine with
MCR 18,420 HP at 105.0 RPM and NCR 16,380 HP at 101.0 RPM. The overall appearance of the
ME is good, with no major oil leaks from the top to bottom casing and fuel lines, pump units.
The Turbocharger for the engine and the filters was clean. Unit overhauls were within
recommended maker’s intervals.
Emergency maneuvering station at local side and communication with the bridge were in good
condition.
Tie rods, foundation bolts and side stoppers appeared in good condition. Crankcase breather
valves appeared clean.
