th
Report on HACKATHON conducted on 24th and 26 March 2022

To bring out the innovative from engineering college students, a 36 hrs, Hackathon-
2022 was organized at Sphoorthy Engineering College. This event aims at encouraging the
young students from various engineering backgrounds to think and build a model on the theme
“SMART IDEAS”. These models may also solve many problems encountered in agriculture
and water conservation. For this mega model building event, 232 registrations (consisting of
more than 500 students) were received from engineering colleges in and around Hyderabad.
Dr J B V Suramaian, Principal Sphn, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, the secretary, Dr B M Kannan,
IQAC member, Prof. Manohar Bali Organizing Chair inaugurated the event

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. J B V Subrarniam, Principal, SPHN, welcomed the

students of various colleges to the Hackathon. She advised the students to be innovative and
exhibit their skills in this two-day programme. She motivated the student participants to
continue the tempo even after leaving the college.
Prof. Dr B M Kannan, IQAC member, SPHN said that the Hackathon can be called as
innovation. People come here to create equipment which is useful to the society. Many types
of Hackathons like internal, external, computer based and Agri based are there. We have to
conserve water to be utilized for our agricultural purposes. Agriculture and water are the
lifelines for human beings. At the end, he wished all the participants to actively exhibit their
workable models.
Prof. Manohar Bali Organizing Chair, greeted the dignitaries and participants of the
event and highlighted the importance of Hackathon-2019. He also announced detailed two-
day program schedule to the participants. He advised the young innovators to work on
feasible, useful and implementable models.

After the inauguration, the organizers formed eight evaluation teams; each team
consisting of two experienced faculty for screening the ideas in ideation session. After lunch,
the 107 teams selected in the ideation session proceeded to event venue. The ideas included
smart irrigation, AI solutions for farmers, automated systematized irrigation system, rainwater
harvesting, water bot, pesticide promulgator, GSM pump motor controller, crop management
using LOT, water sprinkling system, smart irrigation with mobile app, wireless soil moisture
probe, green house automation, aqua phonics, agro-E-centers, water flow controller,
insight into high quality crop production, nitrate level based fish feeding system, auto switch
irrigation, pedal operated tap, piezoelectric generator, windmill energy, insects repellent, solar
seed filing machine, crop estimation, food grain storage system, water quality monitoring and
notification system, mulch and compost, smart censors in fields, plant moisture sensor using
die electric constant, drone irrigation, Agri- protection, prediction of quality of soil etc.

Participants working on ideas

All the teams started working on designing the models. At 5.00 PM snacks and tea
were served to the participants and dinner was provided between 8.30 PM-9.30 PM.
During night, the faculty coordinators clarified students’ doubts and helped them to
build workable models. During this period, 2 reviews (pitching) were conducted by the
faculty for proper assessment of the models being built
On the 2nd day, Mr. S. Achyuta Rajesh, from Infosys; Ms.Roy Sayonee and
Ms.G.Priya from Informatics were invited for making an assessment on the innovative models.
The panel assessed all the teams and recommended the best four teams.

Recharging with dinner Arrival of Jury members for validation

For this event, Dr. B M KANNAN, Mr. S. Achyuta Rajesh, Ms.Roy Sayonee and
Ms.G.Priya were invited. Dr. M.N.V. Ramesh, Organizing Chair presented a brief report on
the event. He thanked the jury members for accepting the invitation and judging the models.
He also thanked Sri Jaganmohan Reddy, Secretary, SPHN Educational Society and Principal
for accepting the Hackathon proposal and giving all facilities in conducting this mega event
of innovations. He also thanked J- HUB Director, JNTUH for encouraging in conducting this
event.

Mr. Achyuta Rajesh, Chief Guest congratulated the students for their active
participation in innovative model building for nation’s development. During these two days
each one of them learned new things other than curriculum. All the models were innovative,
but lacking funding to make it a reality. He said that such events will improve the
quality of ideas and every student should try to attend an event like this Hackathon to
bring out new, innovative and cost-effective products to the society

Winners and guests for valedictory session

Dr. Jaganmohan Reddy presented medals and certificated to the winners. Consolation
prize was won by K. Dhanush & team from Anurag group of Institutions for their model on
‘Aggrotech’, third prize was won by Srinidhi & team from NMREC for their model on
“Energy through foot steps’, second prize was won by Harshith & team from CVSR for
their model on ‘Multipurpose Agri blot’ and first prize was won by Lakshmi Sai Shirisha &
team for women for their model on ‘Solar seed’.

As a token of respect and a symbol of remembrance, Jury members were honored with
mementos by Principal, NMREC. The student coordinator thanked the Principal, Vice-
Principal, HODs, coordinators for their cooperation and coordination in successfully
conducting the Hackathon- 2022
