UNIT 1 – Exploring Self


Activity 1
Topic:
Exploring Self Identity

Objective:
To develop holistic and integrated understanding about themselves.

Methodology:
Self-Directed Learning

Procedure:
• Presentation of videos based on JOHARI
• Window
• Team up with one friend
• Analysis of Self (Open Self, Hidden Self and Unknown Self)
other Team member will analyse (Blind Spot)
• Recording the Analysis (Open Self, Blind Spot, Hidden Self and
Unknown Self)
• Presentation

Observation:
Open self: I am fun to be with, very talkative, sweet, people are
comfortable around me, caring in a different way, etc.
Blind self: As I said caring in a different way that means that it’s
difficult for me to show the care. I am also very patient which only
some people know.
Hidden Self: Insecure about some things in life, want some things to
be perfect like kind of disorder.
Reflection: What did I learn from this activity?
I found out that my friend does know about my caring side which I
usually don’t show. I did really talk out loud about my insecurity. I
learnt about the Johari Window. Also heard about things that people
said which I was totally unaware of.
How will this activity help me as a teacher?
After that I have faced my insecurity it will help me overcome it an be
a good teacher. This activity helped me know what other people think
about me and I am I depicting myself out in the world. I can use this
in my class to see what students feel about themselves and about each
other. If someone is showing negative traits than I will help him/her to
see it and overcome it.

Activity 2
Topic:
Awareness of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
threat(SWOT)

Objective:
To identify ones strength, weakness, opportunities and threats

Methodology:
Self - Analysis

Procedure:
• Reading of the Resource Material
• Analysis of Self (What are your strengths, weakness,
opportunities and threats)
• Recording the Analysis (Your strengths, weakness,
opportunities and threats)
• Presentation

Observation:
Strengths: Positive traits are that I am brave, caring, funny, loyal,
humble and emotional.
People come to me for life advice, I give pretty good life advices.
I can complete my work very fast as compared to others.
Being around family and friends seeing all of them happy makes me
happy and fulfilled.
Weaknesses: I procrastinate a lot and do not complete my work on
time. I am trying to be more regular and more responsible about it by
completing it now.
My family and friends are my limited resources.
My assignments are never asked by anyone.
Burden of a lot of work makes me stressed.
I cannot get emotional easily in front of anyone. I will do whatever it
takes to hide my emotions.
Opportunities: I can use my strength of getting work done faster use a
lot in my favor.
I have opportunity of becoming someone else’s step towards
education.
Becoming a teacher is the current opportunity for me.
I am uniquely qualified to be a teacher.
Threats: My lack of work submission on time threatens my career the
most.
My laziness holds me back.
People’s point of view about me.
Controlling my sleep, anger, etc.
I am not financially independent yet and this is my biggest constraint.

Reflection: What did I learn from this activity?


I learnt a lot of my strengths and weaknesses about myself which I
was not aware of. I also came to know what people think about me
and what can they rely on when it’s me who they think.
How will this activity help me as a teacher?
As a teacher I can do the SWOT analysis on my students and see what
are their strengths and weaknesses which I can use in my favor and
help them with that. Students will learn about themselves and by
converting their weaknesses into strengths they can achieve their
goals.

Activity 3
Topic:
Self reflection through creative imaginary

Objective:
To undertake self-reflection through applying creative imagery
technique.

Methodology:
Creative and Critical thinking

Procedure:
 Analysis of Self
 Either selecting a picture for self or drawing a picture
describing yourself.
 Preparation of Creative Imagery
 Presentation
Observation:
This picture explains me the best because
this is one of my favourite places I have ever
been too. It’s one of the palace of Jaipur and
this was the time when I fell in love with
Jaipur or I cn say love with history. This
picture describes that how much I love the
plce and alsohow much I love dressing up. I
know the dress is not visible here but it was
one of my best looks from the trip. I knew
that Ilike knowing past about palaces and
places but after visiting here I understood
what I really feel about these places. The
picture also describes how I can watch these
places all day long an cannot get tired of it.

Reflection:
What did I learn from this activity?
I learnt to reflect on myself. It’s difficult for me to reflect on me. I
came to know about my qualities. I compared my qualities with the
above which reflect my characteristics. Now I can try to relate myself
with other pictures and try to adapt new qualities.

How am I going to use this as a teacher?


As a teacher this will help me to work on my negative aspects. I can
also conduct this activity in my class for the students, this will help
them know about themselves and they will try to find their hidden
qualities. They will learn self-reflecting.
