NARRATIVE REPORT

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” said
Professor Maripaz C. Abas, EdD., the Cotabato State University Dean of College of Teacher
Education.

The Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Science conducted a general virtual class
orientation. The event was conducted last April 28, 2022, and started at exactly 1:00 in the
afternoon. It happened via the google meet platform. The said virtual class orientation was
participated by the BSEd Science students especially the instructors under the Science program
and some of the faculty staff of the Department of Education. The program aims to encourage
the student to continue their journey even midst of a pandemic crisis. Also, to discuss the rules
and regulations during online class, the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the Cotabato
State University, and the goals and objectives of the Department of Education. However, it also
aims to explain and discuss the academic program of the BSEd Science course. The said
program was hosted by Mr. Jahid A. Hassim.

I. The event started with an invocation led by Norhamin Paguita for Muslim prayer and Ms.
Ilyn Ileuterio for Christian prayer. And it was followed by the singing of the Philippine National
Anthem.

II.The program was formally started by giving a welcome address given by the active,
enthusiastic, and brilliant chairperson of BSEd Science no other than Ma'am Vivian M. Estaris.
She discussed the focus and highlight of the program which is giving awareness and
understanding of the important matter concerning this new open program/course most
especially the MVGO of the university. Moreover, to know the set of relevant information about
the academic program set by the University.
III. Technical issues hampered the ought intermission number of Ms. Jomayra Usman and
Ms. Shiera F. Abdullah of BSEd Science 1-A, but despite this, the program continued as the host
introduced the Dean of the College Teacher Education Department, Professor Maripaz C. Abas,
EdD for being active, very productive and innovative dean. Prof. Maripaz C. Abas, EdD gave her
inspirational and motivational message and some quotes by telling her experiences, emotions,
and how aggressive the campaign of CSU CTEd to develop and train the student to become a
teacher someday. Not just teachers but it is a quality kind of teaching that the student should
envy from the faculty members with the experiences that they could share with the student
and hoping to see the student become quality teachers that will develop quality learners. Also,
she said that the students included in the science department are fortunate enough because
not all applicants are allowed to study at CSU. She ended her message by sharing some quotes
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” and
“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all” and looked forward
that the students will not back out and hoping that the student will graduate and can make it
pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers.

IV. After that, Mr. Jahid Hassim introduced Maam Elynbeth S. Pusta MAEd- Science to
present Cotabato State University's mission, vision, and core values. Also the CTed Goals,
objectives, and core values. The university hymn, netiquettes, and values integration. After that,
she let the student listen and sang the Cotabato State University hymn.

Ma'am Elynbeth S. Pusta, MAEd- Science enlightens that students must be flexible to
adapt to both an online class and face-to-face class. She also advises the students to be
responsible and vengeance to their studies and find ways to find a good environment to study.
Educators have a crucial part in our society and the field of discipline. Moreover, CSU aims to
produce highly competent and well-mannered educator and bring it even at the end of the
chosen field. However, the students should also wear proper clothes and still observe the right
conduct during the virtual class. She enlightens that even the teachers are also struggling to
find a good internet connection just to do their role or job and for the students to learn.

V. The program was followed by the presentation of Ma'am Fairuds A. Dalantay Ph.D.
about the curriculum of the course program, she introduced the subjects of the course that
students must pass upon studying the enrolled program, this includes the number of hours or
weeks of the subjects both lecture and laboratory, the credited unit's and identifying the
subjects if it has its prerequisites or not. Student consultations are included in her presentation
wherein she enlightens that students have a consultation at most once a week or as needed. ,
she introduced the CSU key officials, they are the important officials of the university, none
other than the CSU president Professor Sema G. Dilna, the vice president for academic affairs
Teng A. Alim Ph.D., the president for administration and finance Abonawas A. Pendaliday Ph.D.,
the vice president for research, extension and publication Zainudin M. Kusin Ph.D., the
importance of introducing the CSU key officials to the students is to give information and
awareness that whenever the students might see these important people of CSU within the
university campus and even outside the campus, they must give respect and honor for them.
And lastly, the important officials of the college department are must be included, they are; the
dean of the CTEd, Professor Maripaz C. Abas EdD, the Chairperson of the BSEd Science program
Ma'am Vivian M. Estaris MIB, the faculty members of the program Elynbeth S. Pusta MAEd-
Science and lastly herself Ma'am Fairudz A. Dalantay Ph.D

VI. Chairperson Maam Vivian M. Estaris, MIB, discussed the assessment of the students
that will be formative and summative form. Formative includes, quizzes, oral recitation,
assignments, laboratory outputs, and participation of the students in the class, for the
summative form of rating the student's performances, will be based on his/her prelim,
midterm, and final examination. Absences of students are even tackled during the program this
entails, accumulating seven to ten absences without any valid reason will be ground for
dropping the enrolled subject, that is why attendance is a must. The grading system of the
college department, goals and objectives of the science program, academic policies of the
college department, and the admission policies under the new normal are included in the
Chairperson's presentation, the highlighted part of her presentation was the retention policies
for a regular semester of the students, this is to maintain the, 2.25 and above general average
and must not have lower than 2.50 grade in all general, professional, elective, mandated, and
Major courses/subjects areas for every semester.

VII. The Open Forum has been started by asking a question by a first-year student from
section A, Ms. Ilyn Eleuterio regarding the qualified applicants of Cotabato State University and
Ms. Jomayra Usman regarding what happens if you are ever expelled from the Science
program, will you go to another program which was immediately answered by the CTEd faculty
members. Now, the approval policies of goals and objectives have been moved, and approved
the retention policy and they seconded and approved.

VIII. Afterwards, a closing remark was given by Ma'am Fairudz A. Dalantay Ph.D. she
reminded the students to stay what is being described in the CTEd core values which are to
perform truthfulness, to exert excellence in the chosen course, to be adaptable at all cost, to
give compassion towards the chosen course, to spread humility, to be enthusiastic and be
mindful of the responsibility not just being a student but also a responsible teacher someday. It
will be a rocky road in leading the path of being an educator, but the best thing that students
should do is to bear with the hardship and learn from it, and someday after getting through
this, success will be achieved. She let the students be driven by her words of wisdom by simply
saying that " Listening to a word or lesson is a must, acting on it and applying it is a choice".
Ma'am Dalantay leaves soulful closing remarks to everyone.

The program ended successfully, this brings joy to everyone that despite the current
situation of the world, there will be an alternative way of communicating and addressing
essential information that anyone could gain and learn.
