1. A 4 pole generator has an induced emf of 262V when driven a a speed of 400 rpm. The
armature a lap wound and has 652V conductorsm its resistance being 0.15 Ω. The bore
of the pole shoe is 42 cm diameter, the pole subtends an angle of 600 and is 20 cm long.
Calculate the fuux density in the air gap. (1.37 T).

2. A lap wound dc shunt generator having 80 slots with 10 conductors per slot generator
at no load an emf of 400 V, when runnning at 1000rpm. Find out the flux per pole. If
this generator is required to generate a voltage of 220 V on open circuit, at what speed
it need to be rotated. (30 mWb, 550 rpm).

3. A 110V d.c shunt generator delivers a load current of 50A. The armature resistance is
0.2Ω and the field circuit resistance is 55 Ohms. The generator, rotating at a speed of
1800 rpm has 6 poles, lap wound, and a total 360 conductors. Calculate the no-load
votage at teh armature and the flux per pole. (120.4V, 11.15 mWb).

4. A short shunt compound dc generator delivers 100A to a load at 250 V. The generator
has shunt field, series field and armature resistance of 130 ohms, 0.1 ohms and 0.1 ohms
respectively. Calculate the voltage generated in armature winding. Assume 1 V voltage
drop per brush. (272.2 V)

5. A shunt generator gives full load output of 30 kW at a terminal voltage of 200V. The
armature and shunt filed resistance are 0.05 Ohm and 50 Ohms respectively. The iron and
friction losses are 1000W. Calculate, generated emf, copper loss and efficiency. (207.7,
1985.8, 90.9)

6. A dc seperatly excited dc motor drives an elevator which requires a constant torque of

300 N-m. The Motor is connected to a 600 V dc suply and motor rotates at 1500 rpm.
The Ra = 0.5Ω. Determine armature current. If field flux is reduced by 10%, determine
armature current and motor speed. (84.48A, 93.8A, 1657.6rpm)

7. A dc series motor (230V, 12hp, 1200rpm), is connected to 230 V supply draws a current
of 40 A and rotates at speed of 1200 rpm, Ra = 0.25Ω, Rse = 0.1Ω. Assume magnetic
linearity. Determine power and torque developed by motor.

8. A dc series motro draws a line current of 100 A from the mains while running at 1000
rpm. Its armature resistance is 0.15 Ohms and field resistance is 0.1 Ohms. Assuming
the flux corresponding to a current of 25 A is 40% of corresponding to 100A. Find the
speed of the motor when drawing 25A from 230V supply. (2729 rpm).

9. A series motor runs at 1100 rpm taking 90A with 110V. What resistance in parallel with
field circuit to get 1500 rpm speed for delivering same load torque? Ra 0.08Ω, Rf = 0.06Ω

respectively. A resistance of 1.5 ohms is connected in series with armature and it runs
at 800 r.p.m taking a current of 60 A. Whate must be the resistance of a diverter should
be connected across armature to reduce speed to 600 rpm when armature current is
constant. (4.58)

11. A 220 V series motor running at a certain speed takes 25 A. Its armature and series
field resistance are 0.3 ohms, 0.1 ohms respectively. Find the resistanc tor be connected
in sreies with armature to reduce speed by 30 %. Assume total torque proportional to
cubic of speed. (8.737 )
