Answer all the questions.
Instructions: 1. Answer Five Full questions using given internal choices. 2. Missing data, if any, may be suitably assumed.

1) Discuss the design issues of layers (6)

a)
b) Distinguish Wired and Wireless transmission media, justify the significance of twisting in twisted pair (8)
cable.
c) For n Devices in network, estimate the number of cable links required for a mesh, ring, bus and star (6)
topology? Point out the advantages of each of this topology
2) (10)

b) A path in a digital circuit-switched network has a data rate of 1 Mbps. The exchange of 1000 bits is (6)
required for the setup and teardown phases. The distance between two parties is 5000 km. answer
the following questions if the propagation speed is 2 X 108 m/s:
i) What is the total delay if 1000 bits of data are exchanged during the
data transfer phase?
ii) What is the total delay if 100,000 bits of data are exchanged during
the data transfer phase?
iii) What is the total delay if 1,000,000 bits of data are exchanged during
the data transfer phase?
