17. Loosen the brake rocker arm's lock nut (A) and turn the adjusting screw (B) 0.5–1 revolution counter-clockwise.
Install a shim between the camshaft and the brake rocker arm's roller. Check that the shim's thickness is according
to specifications, see Engine, specifications. Tighten the adjusting screw (B) to contact and then another half a
revolution so that the valve yoke is pressed down and the exhaust valves open slightly. This means that the engine
brake mechanism is heavily loaded and that all parts are in correct position. Loosen the adjusting screw (B) until the
shim can be slid in and out with a little force. Lock the adjusting screw (B) in this position with lock nut (A), with
tightening torque, see Engine, specifications.

Figure 17

NOTE!
Use a marking pen to make a mark when the adjustment is done in order to keep track of which valves, injectors, and brake
rocker arms have been adjusted.

rocker arms have been adjusted.

Checking after adjusting (only applies to engines with brake rocker arm/IEGR)

18. Remove the feeler gauge and the shim. Check the clearance between the camshaft and the brake rocker arm's
roller with an adjusting shim or feeler gauge with thickness according to specifications, see Engine, specifications. It
should be possible to slide the shim into the space (clearance) without resistance.

Figure 18
NOTE!
In case of insufficient clearance, start over from Exhaust valve, checking.

NOTE!
The check may never be used for adjusting work.

19. Rotate the engine to the next marking, check and adjust the rest of the valves, brake rocker arms, and unit injectors.

20. Check that the guide pin is located directly opposite the bowl in the spring plate. Tighten the bolts for the brake
rocker arms' leaf springs.
