Dual Axis Solar Tracking System Using LDR With Inverter

The document describes a dual axis solar tracking system using light dependent resistors (LDRs) with an inverter. It includes an introduction explaining the benefits of solar energy and dual axis trackers. It then lists the major components, including an Arduino, LDRs, solar panel, and DC servo motors. It provides details on the practical implementation, working, and block diagram of the dual axis solar tracker. Testing results showed the dual axis tracker improved power generation by an average of 30% compared to a fixed panel. Advantages of dual axis tracking and future scopes like using boost converters are also discussed.

INTRODUCTION

With the unavoidable shortage of fossil fuel Sources in

the future, renewable types of energy have become a
topic of interest to research in all around the world.

Solar PV energy ids highly expected to become a major

source of power in he future.

Aiming for this purpose, this project had been carried

out to support the development of such promising
technology and using dual axis solar tracker instead of
single axis is one of the best option to maximise the
power and efficiency of solar tracker.

Lastly, the inverter we used is IGBT which can be used

for high power as well as low power conversion.
NOMENCLATURE
The main function of this is to alter DC power to AC power which is generated from the
solar array.

The inverter gives analytical information to assist in identifying operations & maintenance
to fix issues of the system.

The generated current can be used for different applications like in a viable electrical grid
otherwise off-grid electrical network.

If we are using a solar Power system for a home, the selection & installation of the inverter
is important.

A pre-programmed microcontroller (Arduino uno) is used to execute different algorithms

exactly. This controller increases the output power from the solar panel with the help of the
MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) algorithm.

PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT

In these two figures the Figure 1 is of Dual axis solar tracker in which as an
advancement to our major project we had added an inverter to it as shown in figure 2
which will going to take the energy from solar tracker and convert that energy to 220
V DC supply.
WORKING

1) When sunlight incident on the solar

tracker. it starts calculating and comparing
that from which direction the maximum
intensity sunlight is coming.

2) There we are using the LDR sensor

which is known as the Light dependent
resistor when the sunlight incident the LDR
sensor the resistor value of the LDR sensor
will decrease.

3) It means it only controls the resistance

by using light. so, we are using this
method. which LDR sensor decreases the
maximum resistor the dual axis solar
tracker system will move in that direction.
BLOCK DIAGRAM OF DUAL AXIS SOLAR TRACKER
RESULT
The curve shows the difference between the power generated by fixed module and
moving module. As we can see from the graph that during 6:00 am to 10:00 am, the
increase in power is around 40%. And during 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm it comes down to
around 12% and it again increases during 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm to around 30%. The
average improvement during the whole day is around 30%.
ADVANTAGES & FUTURE SCOPE

Higher degree of flexibility, allowing for a higher energy output on sunny days.

Higher degree of accuracy in directional pointing.

Dual-axis trackers tend to be better for areas with high levels of direct sun.

Should only be used for commercial purposes as cost is high.

We can use boost converters to maximise its efficiency.
