Tank Lining & GRP Lamination

GRP Lining has diverse applications including Corrosion Resistance, Structural Strengthening
and Waterproofing. It can be found in most if not all Water Storage Tanks, Sewerage Tanks,
Chemical Storage Tanks, Tank Roof Lining, Manholes, Sewerage Sump Pit, Cooling Towers,
Chemical Plants, Fire Fighting Networks, Pipeline Networks, Water Transmission Pipelines,
etc.

Special grade resins are used to attain various properties, which allow the GRP Lining to

effective alternative to component replacement.

GRP Lining will completely and seamlessly seal the cracks, leaks, corrosion and flaking
materials. It offers a new life to damaged/eroded walls providing a long term, secure
environment at a fraction of the cost of a total rebuild.
Method of Normal GRP Lamination on
Concrete/Steel Tank Surface
After the surface preparation and removal of dust, first coat of resin is applied on the
concrete surface. Care is taken to see that the resin fills all voids in the concrete surface
so as to avoid the formation of air bubbles.

Prime Coat - Resin is applied on concrete surface. Then first pre-trailed layer of glass
fiber (CSM) is placed on the resin applied surface.

A woolen roller is used for applying the resin on the mat.

Second layer of glass fiber (CSM) is placed over the first layer with resin applied over it.

Metallic roller is used to impregnate the lamination and to remove any air entrapment.

Sufficient time is allowed for successive glass fiber impregnation to avoid peak
exothermic heat.

Successive layer (for ex.: Multi-Layer of matt 450 gsm) is applied on the already
impregnated lamination with thickness condition for better bonding between the layers.
The procedure is repeated until required thickness is achieved.

Finally, Top Coat (Gel coat Finishing) will be applied on the cured lamination.

1. Check Concrete Foundation

Concrete Foundation is extremely important to ensure the safety of the tank.

Customers should construct a concrete base according to the design specification
and the firmness of the site.

A. Standard of Concrete Foundation

1) The required strength of the base concrete must be at least
2) Width of concrete foundation is more than 300mm.
2) Height of concrete foundations 500mm.
2. Check steel skid base
1. Basic structure of steel footing is the cross-hatched type.

1) All bolts/nuts for connecting steel skid shall be M14 X 40
2) Joint Angle (or Channel) at intervals of 1M using base frame
3) Put Angle (or Channel) on base PAD and joint using type Bracket (7575Z).

3. Assembly of Bottom panel block
A. Bottom Panel Block Assembly Sequence and Procedure
1) Attached the sealing tape to the flange for all of the bottom panel.

2) Method to Apply Tapes

1) The sealing tape should be applied to all assembled flange surfaces.
2) The center side of the sealing tape should be overlapped by about 50mm
(as shown in the below photo )

3) To assemble a bottom panel block, first connect several bottom panels into a
sub-block. Determine the block size according to the site condition, the work
space, number of workers, use or non-use of a crane, etc.
A block that is too large cause difficulty in relocation and other work.
Therefore, it is recommended that one block be limited to 10 panels x 2rows.

4) Arrangement and type of bottom panels.

Place bottom panels one by one upside (as shown in Fig. 2).
When installing a drain nozzle, place a pit panel in the pre-determined
position.
5) Assembly of Drain Panel
Using a hole saw (for a small bore), and a jigsaw (for large bore), the
required holes may be cut into panels.

Inside Outside
Outside
Inside

6) Assembly of sub-blocks is done by connecting panels in one direction only.

7) for
8 Bolts/nuts are used for a 1m length side and 4 are used for 0.5m length
side of a panel.

8) Perforate a hole using a fixture.

9) For bolt / nut tightening sequence:
First tighten the 3th bolt/nut from each
end of the flange. Then tighten 4th,
5th,6th, and 1st,8th.
Lastly the 2nd, 7th bolts/nuts.

10) Adjusting by levering the tapered

bars horizontally and vertically.

11) Assemble one more sub-block using the same procedure as (3) above.

12) Connect together two assembled sub-blocks into one complete 10-panel
bottom block.

Caution:
Take care to connect he panels so that there is no offsetting the
joints of the panels. Such offsetting causes water leakage
4. Setting the Bottom Panel on Steel Skid Base
1) Mark on the line of the tank corner, in both directions, on the steel skid base
upper surface before placing the bottom on the top of it. (With a large tank, also
mark the center line)

2) Turn over the completed bottom

panel block, so that the interior
of the panel faces upwards.

3) When the bottom finished,

attached sealing tape 50mm

4) Same the upper 3).

5) For easily assembly bolt, drilled hole

for connecting bottom panel and
side panel use to tapered bars.
5. Assembly of side panel block

The assembly procedure is basically the same as that of the bottom panel block,
except for the following points.

1. Side panel blocks are equipped with unit panel reinforcing angles and
reinforcing plates.

1) Poles are installed at all cross points of the roof panels located on the center
of the roof panel block.(Fig. 48)

2) Insert pole to into the pole support for pole installation.

8. Installation of Internal Ladder
Install the internal ladder and poles from the tank interior, after the connection
of the roof panel block to side panel blocks.
It is advisable to carry the internal ladder and poles into the tank before
connecting the roof panel to the side panel block.
1) Material is FRP
9. NOZZLE INSTALLATION
There are two kinds of nozzle, made of PVC and brass socket respectively.
While their uses are different depending on their functions and the tank size,
their installation sequence and procedure are the same. Insert special bolts
with rubber-lined heads into the specified nozzle installation position from
the tank interior, and tighten them with inserted gasket as shown in Fig.32
This will firmly attached the nozzle to the panel.

Fig32. 50mm Air vent

For air vent installation, the procedure is the same as for the nozzle. Mount an
air vent cover, and install on a roof panel by means of a screw type socket
instead of a bolt.

- In order to keep the tank clean enough to retain drinking water in it, remove
all remains like bolts, nuts, washers. Then, clean the tank with soft detergent.

- Use clean water to wash side and bottom walls two or three times.

- During the cleaning work, prevent any alien material from entering into the
tank through the drainage.
