Define Organizational Change

Organizational change examines both the process through which a business or any other
organization alters its operational practices, technology, organizational structure, overall
structure, or strategy, as well as the implications of these changes for the organization.
Organizational change often occurs in reaction to or because of pressures from the outside or
the within. It is all about examining and changing structures, particularly corporate processes,
and management structures. Small businesses must change to survive against more powerful
rivals. (Marketing91, 2021). They must also develop the skills necessary to flourish there.
When a new, inventive competitor enters the market, large competitors must quickly adjust.
A company must find methods to be more efficient if it wants to stay on top of its
competition or risk falling behind. It must also try to run more economically. (Nordqvist,
2016).

Explain Kurt Lewin’s 3 step model of changes

Unfreezing is Stage 1. This is the initial transitional stage and one of the most important ones
in the complete change management procedure. Encouraging a realization of leaving the
current comfort zone and entering a changed scenario, it entails increasing people's
preparedness and desire to change. It entails educating individuals about the need for change
and enhancing their desire to embrace new approaches to achieving better outcomes.
Achieving the appropriate level of support and participation from the population in the
change process during this stage depends critically on good communication. (MBA
Management Models, 2021).

Change is Stage 2. This stage may alternatively be referred to as the Transitional Stage or the
Stage of Actual Change Implementation. It entails embracing novel approaches to problem-
solving. At this point, the populace is defrosted, and the genuine transformation is put into
action. Careful planning, good communication, and persuading others to become involved in
supporting the change are required at this phase. It is assumed that this transitional period is
difficult because of uncertainty or because individuals are afraid of the results of
implementing a change process.

Stage 3 is Freeze (Refreeze). During this stage, humans go from a state of transition (change)
to one that is considerably more stable, or what we can refer to as the equilibrium state.
Refreezing is the last step, when individuals integrate new behaviors or ways of thinking,
embrace them as a part of their lives, and forge new connections. Employees should get
rewards, recognition, and positive reinforcement for their new behaviors and changes in how
they operate. Supportive policies or organizational structures may also aid in reinforcing the
modified work practices. (Juneja, 2015)
