Message From Vice Chairman
Mr.Abhay Shankar Meganathan
Vice Chairman, Rajalakshmi Institutions.

I am happy to note that the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is organiz-
ing a second International Conference on Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Systems
(ICPERES – 2018) on April 4th& 5th 2018.

Electrical power is the lifeline of any country and it is well known that the per capita power
consumption is an indicator for the wellbeing of a nation and that the fast depleting conven-
tional sources, which cause increased environmental pollution, would not be able to meet
the ever increasing demand for electrical energy. In this context, the quest for cleaner and re-
newable energy sources such as wind and solar has considerable implications to the existing
power generation, transmission and distribution systems.

It is necessary for the experts from industries and researchers from institutions to get together
and articulate the expectations of one another. This could lead to a lot of new ideas, product
innovations and newer power installations.

I sincerely hope that the conference would serve as a forum for providing a unique oppor-
tunity for the participants to exhibit their research findings. I wish the conference a grand
success.
Message From Advisor
C R Muthukrishnan
Advisor, Rajalakshmi Institutions.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Rajalakshmi Engineering College

is organizing the second International Conference on Power Electronics and Renewable En-
ergy Systems (ICPERES - 2018).

Power Systems comprise Generation, Transmission and Distribution subsystems. Ideal

Power Systems provide continuous (non-stop) supply of power at specified parameters – fre-
quency, voltage and phase - under widely varying load and other external conditions. Meet-
ing this exacting requirement poses many challenges in design, operation, and maintenance
drawing heavily upon instrumentation, measurement, feedback and control. Provision of
additional capacity to meet growth in demand is a necessity. Many new developments have
come up and are continuing in all the three – Generation, Transmission and Distribution.

The Internet of Things (IOT) technology embraces many, if not all, aspects of solution to ad-
dress the various problems in the design, operation and maintenance of Power Systems. In
contrast to the current platforms/technologies deployed and in use, IOT has the potential
to provide an overarching simplicity and flexibility. We may denote this as digitalization
of Power System in a total manner. An analogy to capture this would be to look at similar-
ity in what is happening to vehicles and transportation systems. The task poses two major
challenges - IOT is still evolving (though rapidly) and, in-situ transformation of the present
operational power systems with no discontinuity.

ICPERES – 2018 will provide an exciting update of recent progress in the field to delegates
and enhance the synergy between Academia (Research) and Industry (Practice).

My Congratulations to the EEE faculty and REC Colleagues in organizing the conference and
wish the delegates and invitees a successful Conference.
Message From Principal
Dr.S.N.Murugesan,
Principal

On behalf of management of Rajalakshmi Engineering College, I am delighted to welcome

you to the Second International conference on Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Sys-
tems (ICPERES 2018) organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
during 4-5 April 2018.

The compelling need for eco-friendly renewable energy sources has been the driving force
for several remarkable advancements in the fields of electricity generation and utilization.
In India, solar and wind energy capacity has been nearly tripled from 3.4 GW to 12 GW and
with continued research, this capacity will further get enhanced.

I sincerely hope ICPERES 2018 certainly paves a global platform for researchers, engineers,
academicians and students to present and discuss their research ideas, recent innovations
and practical challenges encountered in the applications of Power Electronics in Renewable
Energy Systems.

My hearty congratulations to Organizing committee members and students of Department of

EEE and I appreciate their tremendous efforts in organizing the conference. I am sure that the
conference ICPERES 2018 would be very productive and enlightening for all the participants.

I wish the conference all success.

Abstract:  Voltage is a fundamental parameter in the quality of power supply, which may rise or drop
depending on the reactive power balance in the system and hence it has become extremely important to
manage reactive power balance for voltage control in off grid hybrid power system (OGHPS). Test system
considered in this work has wind power generation, Photo-Voltaic (PV) system with inverter, diesel
engine and composite load. Over-rated PV inverter has ample amount of VAR capacity while sourcing PV
real power. This paper presents voltage control through reactive power support by PV inverter. Inverter
control structure has proportional-integral (PI) controller tuned by Adaptive Neuro- fuzzy inference system
(ANFIS). Small signal mathematical model of all components of OGHPS with intelligent control developed
herein is simulated in SIMULINK and tested for reactive load and supply disturbances for voltage regulation
characteristics. Voltage and other state variables, obtained separately from PI with fixed gain as well as PI
gains tuned by ANFIS are tested to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed intelligent voltage control
algorithm.

Abstract:  Current transformer (CT) is one of the important units in power system protection. It is the main
source of information and measuring a device in the protection scheme. The accuracy in transforming the
primary currents at high voltage using the CT determines the reliability of the entire power system protection.
This paper describes the saturation study of current transformer during transient faults. A measurement type CT
of 2000/5 A, 25VA rating is used in this analysis and it is tested for normal and transient fault conditions using
MATLAB software. In simulation the secondary current waveforms are recorded for different values of fault
current at the primary side. All the current waveforms are compared for analyzing the behaviour of CT during
transient faults.

Key Words: Current Transformers, Transients, Hysteresis, Ferro resonance, Saturation.

Abstract:   Measurement and analysis of power quality (PQ) issues are essential to improve the reliability
and efficiency of the distribution system (DS) subjected to non-linear loads. This paper deals with the issues
like voltage sag, swell and harmonics by using wavelet transform technique. All these issues are demonstrated
on a practical 34 node Indian test feeder with variable loads using Power Quality Analyzer (Fluke 435 Series
II). The quality of the distribution feeder is evaluated and impact of PQ issues are determined by time and
frequency analysis using the proposed wavelet transform technique.

Abstract:  Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) is widely used in chemical industries. Chemical reactions in
a reactor are either exothermic or endothermic and therefore require that energy either to be removed or added to
the reactor to maintain constant temperature. This paper deals with the stabilization of CSTR using optimal linear
quadratic regulator (LQR) method. Since the performance of the LQR controller mainly depends on the state and
control weighting matrices (Q and R), it is necessary to select them optimally and are done based on trial and error
method, which makes the controller design cumbersome also time consuming. Hence, to address the selection of
weighting matrices problem of LQR, Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BFA) method is proposed. The matrices Q and R
are determined from the optimized algorithm. Performance indices like ISE (integral squared error) and IAE (integral
absolute error) are considered to evaluate the optimally tuned values of controller parameters. The performance of
the proposed method is compared with those of LQR method, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Artificial Bee
Colony (ABC) based LQR and conventional PID controller (tuned by Ziegler-Nichols method). Simulation results
show that the proposed controller has better closed loop response in terms of ISE and IAE values.

Abstract:  The development of Flexible Alternating Current Transmission systems (FACTs) has attracted
UPFC (Unified Power Flow Control) for congestion management problem. Relieving congestion in
transmission line is a demanding task in the present scenario. This paper deals with reduction of congestion
in a fourteen bus system using PI and FOPID controlled UPFC. The modelling and simulation of UPFC in
the system is done using MATLAB simulink software. The open loop and closed loop system with PI and the
FOPID control are modeled, simulated with variable load and the corresponding results are compared. The
improvement in the dynamic response of UPFC in multi-bus system using FOPID controller is demonstrated.

Abstract:  Distributed Generation (DG) system has brought new challenges for protection engineers since
standard relay settings of traditional system may no longer function properly in the system. The extreme case
is coordination loss between primary and backup relays. The directional overcurrent relay (DOCR) which
is the most implemented protective device in the electrical network also suffers performance degradation
in presence of DG. Distribution networks are evolving towards the vision of smart grids, with increasing
penetration of Adaptive penetration Scheme (APS) using Differential evolution algorithm (DE). This paper
presents an adaptive over current protection system which automatically amends the protection settings of
all over MHO relays in response to the impact of directional relay. In this project we are using FFT analysis
for smart grids.

Abstract:  In this Paper, Sliding Mode Controller Based Grid Coupled PV System is proposed. The sliding
mode controller is employed in order to obtain the exact sinusoidal wave from the inverter. To track the
maximum voltage from the solar panel the Maximum power point tracking algorithm is applied. Perturb and
observe is the most widely used technique in MPPT algorithm, which periodically perturbs the operating point
of the PV array and compares the PV power before and after the perturbation. The phase locked loop is used
to synchronize the injected current and the grid current. The response for grid coupled PV system with Sliding
Mode Controller is simulated using MATLAB / Simulink and the experimental results have been verified.

Abstract:  Energy conservation is a topical issue and this design serves an efficient method of doing so. The
design was originally conceived to meet the energy needs of those living in rural areas, due to poor access to
electricity. Most persons living in these rural areas possess at least a cell phone but lack the means to charge them.
This goal will be accomplished by designing a safe and sturdy human powered stationary bicycle that produces
DC energy. The power generator was designed to be simple, cheap, durable and easily maintained. Its purpose is
to efficiently transfer the human foot motion via a pedal and sprocket-chain step-up to drive a 24V DC permanent
magnet generator. It makes use of power electronic converters which is needed to charge low voltage devices
like low charging domestic applications. Bicycle Power Generators are not a new idea, with many created by
hobbyist for residential use with small scale energy in mind, to charge batteries in case of a power outage or natural
disaster. We are looking to expand upon these designs and use a DC generator that will convert human power into
electrical power. The objective is to build a device that is safer and more power efficient. This machine is widely
used to generate electric power, to operate various home appliances, to drive water pump, harvesting activities in
agriculture sector and simultaneously useful for physical fitness of operator.

Abstract:  In this paper, we present a power scheduling concept which describe about the integration of renewable
energy with smart grid. In this a smart meter communicates with a server and schedules the load devices. Based
on the signal from the server, the devices are operated by smart meter. The proposed system will have the control
of different appliances that are available at home. It manages household loads according to predefined priority
and generates the total household power consumption below predetermined levels. In the experimental work

Abstract:  In growing modern world, energy requirement in the day to day life plays a significant role for human
livelihood. Simultaneously the decaying of fossil fuels creates the awareness of nonconventional energy utilization.
In this regard, the government of India appreciates the low to large level Photo Voltaic (PV) based grid connected
power generation. Even though solar panels are installed in many places in India, the full installed capacity may not
be utilized during low irradiation and poor weather conditions. The proposed project focuses on the solution to this
problem. The existing system integrates 0.4kw/m2 and above, while the proposed system has a minimum of 0.2kw/m2
irradiations irradiation of level using Maximum Power Point extraction (MPPT) technique. Hence the overall energy
extraction from PV units/month is significantly improved. The proposed model will be developed using simulation
studies employing suitable software package and experimentally evaluated with necessary hardware prototype module.

Abstract:  A novel approach presented here is converting an existing vehicle into a hybrid vehicle by simply
adding one more battery and a motor. By doing this new proposal the existing vehicle itself will be modified
into a hybrid vehicle and used effectively and efficiently. Compared to a completely new hybrid vehicle,
the cost of the vehicle is also reduced. In addition to this, a new approach is done, which is to isolate the
engine from the wheel. Here engine is used only for charging the batteries. Therefore engine drives the
generator at constant current, so that battery can be charged effectively because of constant current from the
generator and also continuous utilization of engine is not necessary. But engine is used only when the solar
energy is unavailable or during night times. Other advantages are usage of dual batteries increases the life
time of the vehicle, better mileage than the existing vehicle and reduced fuel consumption. Because of less
fuel consumption the exhaust gas from the vehicle is also reduced.

Abstract :  In the area of farming, utilization of appropriate means of irrigation is significant. Field irrigation
is a most precise task, where excess or scarcity of water will result in crop damage. Human controlled field
irrigation is difficult for large acres of land and also late hour irrigation scenarios are risky in nature because
of animal disturbances. Automation of water irrigation based on moisture sensing eradicates a part of the
problem. This project intends to further automate the irrigation process based on an intelligent query of web
weather forecast so that excess water flow to the field can be controlled. An Android Application acts as a
central monitoring unit of the proposed irrigation system. The expected output is to control the pumping of
the motor by considering the moisture content of the soil and rainfall prediction of the region. This irrigation
reduces human effort and enables precise water flow management into the field.

Abstract: This paper proposes fault detection in a transformer using the “INTERNET OF THINGS” (IoT) technology.
Uninterrupted power supply is the most important criteria for proper working of the power system. All the equipment
in the power system play an important role in generation of electricity. Transformer is one of the key equipment in
the power system and hence in this project transformer protection is given more importance. A normal1:1transformer
is being employed which has a specification of 230V and 50VA. A transient fault is manually introduced in the
Transformer by switching on and switching off the transformer for a time period of 3 seconds. The output waveform
from the transformer secondary is sensed during a Hall Effect sensor and is amplified using a DIGITAL CLASS C
AMPLIFIER. The amplified output is given to a software named SIGVIEW which graphically represents the change
in output voltage of the transformer and the distorted waves are being recorded. The waveforms are continuously
analysed using DWT” (DISCRETE WAVELET TRANSFORM) which decomposes the output waveform into
mutually orthogonal set of wavelets. “DWT” gives precise and accurate digital results. These results will be eventually
displayed using an IoT device. This enables faster and accurate fault detection and communication of the data to the
control room for subsequent rectification.

Abstract:  Wireless body sensor networks are increasingly used for continuous remote health monitoring
of patients suffering from cardiac diseases by collecting real time data and transmitting them to health
centers. The sensor nodes along with the device collect, store and transmit a lot of data which results in
device constraints due to energy consumption. This paper first compares two traditional system design
architecture and one proposed design utilizing compressive sensing that could be employed with devices for
ECG signals and makes a qualitative comparison of energy consumption associated with each architecture
with the conclusion that architectures utilizing compressive sensing can be relatively energy efficient. Next,
the technique of compressive sensing is evaluated on data from MIT-BIHarrhythmia database to determine
achievable data compression with acceptable recovery. An approximate 30% and 40% compression ratios
are achievable with no loss of data using the Fourier and a Symmlet level 4wavelet transforms respectively

(1.5/3.5/5.2G/8GHz) WiMAX applications is proposed. These modes are operating at those frequency
groups are first achieved by a patch antenna made out of a modified U-shaped radiator with additional
I-shaped and L-shaped strips, all rotated by 45 degree around the horizontal axis. Then the Directly polarized
(LP) signals are changed over into CP signals producing a quad-band CP antenna. The main objective of this
paper is to increase the data transmission rate. IN recent days the mobile phone has eight antennas for the
usage of many purpose like 2G,3G,4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc. But in the proposed structure, these antennas
can be replaced by a single antenna to achieve high data rate and to obtain the frequency upto 8GHz. Hence,

Abstract:  Traffic congestion is one of the major problems faced, particularly in metropolitan cities. Traffic
congestion is a condition on transport networks that occurs as the use increases, it is characterized by slower speeds,
longer trip times, and increases vehicular queuing. In this paper, a real time traffic system using computer vision for
tracking multiple vehicles from roadways is designed. An application program is developed to monitor increasing
congestion on roadways. The application program is developed based on open Computer Vision (CV) library
functions. It sends the traffic status to the control room and the traffic is controlled. In case of arrival of an emergency
vehicle, the signal is automatically altered by using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technique in the vehicle.

Abstract:  The consumption and reduction in manual work are the main motive of automation. Accessing a book
depending upon the availability by an user is a tedious task. If there is a system which notify the availability of the book
then there prevails time consumption and the user opts for an alternate book. For the above process to be achieved, the
system has the provision to install the IR sensor in the book, placed in the rack. The books present at the rack comprises of
unique information such as title, author, ISBN code, etc. These IR sensors readily send information regarding the books
to the OPAC (Open Public Access Catalogue). When the book has been taken from the smart rack, then a notification
regarding the availability of the book is provided to the system. The decrease in the number of book and the missing of
the particular book is identified by the IR sensor. Thus, there will be a change in the status of OPAC system regarding the
availability of the book from “Available”to “Not Available”. In order to place the books in the rack, the librarian should
simply show the book to the RFID reader present in each shelf where the LED glows indicating the position of the book
on the rack. This kind of approach is easy and simple and helps to avoid misplacement of books.

Abstract:  This paper proposes a new Distributed Cooperation and Diversity Combining framework. It focuses on
heterogeneous networks equipped with two types of radio frequency (RF) interfaces such as short-range high-rate
interface (e.g., IEEE802.11), and a long-range low-rate interface (e.g., cellular) communicating over urban Rayleigh
fading channels. Within this framework, a set of distributed cooperation techniques operating at different hierarchical
levels with resource constraints such as short-range RF bandwidth is proposed and evaluated. A Priority Maximum-
Ratio Combining (PMRC) technique, and a Post Soft-Demodulation Combining (PSDC) technique are developed.
Proposed techniques achieve significant improvements in Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Bit Error Rate (BER) and
throughput. Simulation and experimentation results indicate that under several communication scenarios, PMRC
and PSDC can improve the throughput performance by over an order of magnitude.

Abstract:  A non-invasive respiratory and cardiac rate measurement system is proposed in this paper. The
proposed system uses a GMR sensor which is placed on the wrist of the human being where the radial artery
surfaces, along with a permanent magnet. Under abnormal conditions, the blood flow in the artery changes
which disrupts the magnetic field produced by the permanent magnet. This change is sensed by the GMR
sensor which gives an output as a large variation in its magnetoresistive elements. The GMR sensor’s output
is processed using a signal conditioning circuit and interfaced to a microcontroller which initiates an alert
signal during emergency conditions. The extremely compact sensor with its high sensing capability and non-
invasive technique aids in the development of the portable design. The proposed system can be extended to
monitor health of physically challenged and aged people without hospitalizing them. This application can
be extended to monitor the health conditions and drowsiness of automotive drivers and to prevent accidents.

Abstract:  The harmful practice of manual operations inside manhole is still being practiced in many locations.
Many unfortunate deaths are occurring due to improper safety measures by workers who enter the manhole without
detecting the presence of poisonous gas. So, it is really important to analyze the gas and take precautions before
entering into the manhole. Because of number of mixtures of toxic gases like Carbon-monoxide (CO), Hydrogen
Sulfide(H2S) and explosive gases like Methane(CH4), which causes suffocation, gas poisoning, and gas explosion.
To resolve such issues, a portable, simple manhole gas detection E-helmet has been designed which is capable of
detecting the poisonous gases like carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and methane and if any critical condition
occurs, the buzzer gives an alarm. This E-helmet will also monitor hazardous gases, temperature level and humidity
level in the air inside the manhole and alert the people outside the manhole by using zig-bee, Global Positioning

Abstract:  A closed loop control scheme is employed for stabilizing the bus voltages to meet the load in a PV-battery
based microgrid. The Control and Power Management Scheme (CAPMS) reads the battery State of Charge (SoC)
and the breaker status. The proposed system uses ZETA converter, operating in the continuous conduction mode to
improve stability and for meeting the demands of the DC bus. The PV-Battery system is connected to the microgrid
by a multilevel inverter to reduce the harmonics and making the system compatible to operate in the grid-connected
mode. A Whale Optimization with differential Evolution (WODE) algorithm is used in PV array to reduce the effects
of partial shading observed in Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm as well as to reduce the number of iterations to
compute maximum power. The proposed system is suitable to regulate both DC and AC bus voltages and frequency
under different operating conditions regardless of the voltage variations, fluctuations in the irradiance and temperature.

Abstract:  Recently, photovoltaic power systems have become popular among various renewable energy sources
as they generate electricity with no moving parts, operate quietly with no emissions, and require little maintenance.
Here, the closed loop control of transformer-less single phase photovoltaic (PV) inverter systems to control the leakage
current appearing between the parasitic capacitor and ground is presented. The proposed system has the advantages
of higher efficiency and low cost than the conventional schemes. This topology is derived from the concept of charge
pump circuit. Moreover, in grid connected PV systems, the inverter should also be capable of injecting definite amount
of reactive power into the grid. The injection of reactive power into the grid is achieved with the help of the charge
pump circuit.

Abstract:  This paper elucidates the implementation of a low cost non-intrusive residential energy
monitoring system with an intelligent user feedback and control. The system was designed using open-
source hardware and off-the-shelf components. A rapid increase in energy consumption in the past decade,
especially in developing countries has led to an increase in the cost of energy consumption. This gives rise
for the need to manage the energy efficiently. The proposed system aims to address this problem using Non-
Intrusive Load Monitoring approach (NILM), by tracking the energy consumed by the residential household
and alerting the users through their cellular devices based on the usage limits imposed by the user. The user
can also receive customized alerts when an appliance has been switched ON. In training phase, the average
current of each load is measured and stored in a Look-Up Table (LUT). During run-time, the average current
is measured and the Euclidean distance between the measured current and each value in LUT is found. If
the load with least value of Euclidean distance is under the set tolerance level, then that particular load is
said to be identified. The user receives continuous information about the number of units consumed as well
as the electricity bill which is calculated based on the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) tariff. This can
then be used to monitor and control the energy consumption more intelligently, thus effectively managing
the cost and consumption

Abstract:  Induction Furnace plays a vital role in metal industries for refining of metal ores and treatment of metal.
Non-linear nature of induction furnace creates harmonics, are injected into the power system and creates power
quality issues. To operate high frequency induction furnace, two stages of power conversion is required to increase the
operating frequency. Generally inverter switching frequency is varied to alter the operating frequency which demands
a addition power conversion stage of AC-DC conversion. The combination of twelve-pulse converter and capacitor
based eleven-level multi-level inverter are used for improving the performance of Induction Furnace. Performances of
the Induction Furnace with and without multilevel inverter are studied using MATLAB Simulink. The results obtained
elucidate that the proposed system exhibits a reduced percentage THD and improves the power factor.

Abstract— Growing of modern world most of the commercial and residential building are equipped with hybrid
power sources along with Diesel engine driven power backup. Recent electrical apparatus are nonlinear loads or
pulsating loads. This loads are plays significant role on reduced power quality performance, machine overloading,
machine de-rating and malfunction of protective equipment’s, such difficulties are leads to produce the energy losses
diesel driven alternator and wind driven induction generator. In this proposed system, we have planned to run an
induction generator driven by wind turbine and by absorbing reactive power from the diesel generator. As wind source
keeps on fluctuating, the real power generated and the reactive power absorbed also fluctuates; The load variations
(being non-linear) interrupts the quality of power flow by varying reactive power balance between induction generator
and the diesel generator. The proposed exciter technique aims to provide a better quality of power and economic fuel
saving technique by maintaining the reactive power balance at the common coupling point of wind-diesel hybrid
isolated system network. Terminal voltage, reactive power requirement of the induction generator and the load current
at PCC are the control inputs of proposed exciter system. The mathematical model of the planned system is developed

Abstract:  The economic power dispatch is an integral part of the power system, and the major roles of its use are
for achieving a reliable and efficient operation out of power system generation networks, and this operation should
be obtained by minimizing the generator fuel cost. Getting optimal solutions to EPD problem requires efficient
optimization algorithms. Novel Bat Algorithm is one of the most recent methods and it has already proven its efficiency
and reliability for solving the EPD problem. This paper proposes Novel Bat Algorithm in order to solve the economic
dispatch problem based on the large scale power system. This algorithm has proved its efficiency and it gave a perfect
performance for small-scale systems compared with the original Bat algorithm (BA), because of considering the
Doppler Effect and assumed that bat can move between various habitats. The study of economic dispatch for large-
scale systems is more important than study it for small ones, because all power systems in countries are considered
large networks. This is why all modern studies focus on the study of large systems. To test the performance of algorithm
during small and large scale system, it has applied to many systems, including 3, 6, 31-Iraqi thermal units and IEEE
40-thermal units respectively, with transmission losses and generator limits, and a comparison of the obtained results
has been achieved with other optimization methods. The Iraqi thermal units have been utilized as a new data.

Abstract:  Permanent Magnet Brushless DC (PMBLDC) motor is increasingly used in automotive, industrial
and household products because of its high efficiency, high torque, ease of control, and lower maintenance. The
existing system is a classical buck converter fed PMBLDC motor drive. The drawback of this system is that it does
not meet the load requirement, contains more ripples in the output voltage and affected by parasitic effects. To
avoid these problems, closed loop control of Elementary Additional Series Positive Output Super-Lift converter
fed PMBLDC motor drive is carried out with the help of Proportional Integral (PI) controller. Simulation is done

Abstract:  This paper presents wireless power transfer topology for consumer electronics and electric
vehicle (EV) charging application. The main focus is given on high-frequency DC-AC and AC-DC wireless
power transfer stage where the inversion stage is built with Voltage-fed topology. The required resonance in
transmitter side is (C) (LC) type and in the receiver-side series (LC) type. The proposed topology network
reduces the inverter switching stress to half that of the conventional topology. Capacitor in dc-link provides
constant input voltage. The required high transmitter coil (TC)current for air core coupled inductor circulates
through parallel resonating capacitor which reduces inverter switch current stress. Resonant converter
provides soft switching at device turn ON which reduces switching loss. Also, soft recovery at bridge
rectifier eliminates diode reverse recovery loss. The converter is analyzed and simulated using PSIM 9.03.

Abstract:  The efficiency of power production in solar power plants is affected by soiling effect. Soiling
refers to accumulation of snow, dirt, dust and other particles on the surface of the PV module. Manual
cleaning is costly, laborious and water is expensive at such sites. Automatic cleaning systems using water
is expensive and also causes scratches which permanently degrades the performance of solar panels. An
improved cleaning system has been developed that uses electrostatic force to remove sand from the surface
of solar panels. A single-phase high voltage is applied to parallel wire electrodes embedded in the cover glass
plate of a solar panel.

Abstract:  This paper presents an extensive review on modelling and control of nonlinear autonomous
sailboat system using Conventional ID controller (CPID) and PID controller with Particle swarm optimization
technique (PSO).This mainly focuses on the way of dynamically controlling the sail of the sailboat to reduce
the heel angle and roll motion caused by the wind. A large heeling angle, a lot of roll motion due to wind
gusts can cause the boat to capsize. Sailboats cannot sail directly up-wind either and one has to move in a
zigzag pattern to be able to sail up-wind. The sail angle is optimized and rudder angle is controlled for the
given wind direction and desired moment. The main goal is to allow long endurance autonomous mission.

Abstract:  Three phase Boost rectifiers are utilized as a part of distributed power generation applications such as
micro turbines, windmills, fuel cells etc. The controlled and uncontrolled rectifiers are generally nonlinear in nature.
Thus it causes high harmonic content in the line current, reduced power factor, low efficiency, voltage distortion etc.
To overcome these disadvantages, Power converters need control techniques. In this research, PI Controller and PR
Controller are used to control the DC output voltage generated using Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation technique
(SVPWM) in three phase Boost rectifier. SVPWM is the special switching sequence given to the boost rectifier.
SVPWM gives less harmonic component in the Boost rectifier. The parameters characterizing the power quality such
as Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), Power Factor, Total Demand Distortion (TDD) and Efficiency are measured and
analyzed in the three phase AC to DC Boost rectifiers using PI controller, PR controller Technique.

Abstract:  Switched mode power supplies have high efficiency but low power factor. They are used to power
the DC loads. Efforts are taken to improve the power factor of these supplies using power factor correction
circuitry. Similar to the conventional Interleaved Boost Converter topology, the Bridgeless Interleaved Boost
Converter (IBC) topology is used for active Power Factor Correction (PFC). IBC consists of a number of
boost converters operating in parallel with the only difference being the elimination of the input diode bridge
rectifier stage. This paper deals with the investigation and comparative study of bridged and bridgeless
interleaved boost PFC converter topology along with the loss analysis and efficiency evaluation. Simulation

Abstract:  Renewable energy conversion systems are gaining more attention in recent years. The rapid rise
of power generation using renewable energy sources forces to implement a power converter with higher
conversion efficiency. To ensure this, DC-DC boost converters are employed to obtain the required boosted
voltage level. But this topology results in higher ripple which is unfavorable for PV applications. Hence, this
paper evaluates three different topologies of Interleaved Boost Converter which is the parallel connection of
boost converters. The topologies analyzed are uncoupled, coupled IBC configuration and IBC with voltage
doubler circuit. These converters are designed, simulated, analyzed and their performance has been evaluated
based on various parameters. From the results, it is observed that IBC with doubler circuit proves to be the
best. The circuit configurations of the various converter topologies are simulated in PSIM. The results are
verified and validated.

Abstract:  The objective of this work is to implement a two stage micro-inverter with reduced Total
Harmonic Distortion (THD) and increased efficiency. The first stage consists of a DC-DC boost converter,
followed by the DC-AC inverter stage. A typical solar panel converts only 30 to 40 percent of the incident
solar irradiation into electrical energy. To increase the conversion efficiency, Maximum Power Point Tracking
(MPPT) algorithms (Perturb & Observe, Incremental Conductance) have been simulated in PSIM software
and better tracking efficiency was observed with the Incremental Conductance algorithm. To reduce the
harmonics of the output voltage of the inverter in the second stage, different inverter topologies namely H5,
HERIC and push-pull have been simulated and H5 is found to have higher efficiency and lesser distortion. In
order to control the switching pattern of the inverter, the pulse width modulation strategies such as Unipolar
, Bipolar, Saw tooth and Inverted Sine have been analyzed and the micro-inverter with lesser harmonic
distortion have been suggested for power quality improvement. Simulation studies are carried out in PSIM
software and the results are validated.

Abstract:  In the modern world, X-ray imaging is employed to identify the abnormal diseases in the human
body. In this imaging technique, X-ray generator supplies the high voltage using a DC-DC converter. One such
novel high voltage converter referred as Modified Hybrid Boosting Converter (MHBC) with the combined
advantages of small input, output ripple and gain improvement functionality employing single switch and
single inductor is proposed in this work. The MHBC topology enhances the voltage gain by the addition of
a bipolar voltage multiplier along with the conventional structure of boost converter. This modified structure
results in high conversion ratio, low voltage stress across the main switch, which makes it suitable for X-ray
applications. Performance comparison for the proposed topology with the boost and conventional Hybrid boosting
converter is provided. A prototype of MHBC is built to demonstrate the feasibility of the converter which validates
the simulation results and this confirms that this topology is suitable for the X-ray power generators.

Abstract:  This paper contributes to the examination and improvement of a new bidirectional wireless power
transfer system (WPT) using power electronic devices between battery and load. The main motive is the analysis
and implementation of new current fed resonant topology with current sharing and voltage doubling features with
series parallel and series resonant networks. Inductive wireless power transfer is used for low and medium power
applications and it provides a safer and satisfied way of recharging the batteries. Currently, ongoing research has
confirmed that charging with Inductive power transfer technology reduces the need on battery capacity for a travel
distance and assure for local transportation. Conventional topology uses four switches in the transmitter side converter
which leads to switching losses. This is mitigated in the proposed topology by reducing the number of switches.
Soft switching technique is implemented where the power electronic switches are operated as zero voltage switches.
Simulating in MATLAB shows the efficient use of this system.

Abstract:  This paper presents the analysis of wind-driven three phase squirrel cage induction generator. This three
phase induction generator is connected with a capacitor bank for reactive power compensation and it feeds a three
phase non-linear load and a phase-phase connected rectifier supplying RL load. The analysis of three phase induction
generator with unbalanced non-linear load is analyzed, since the real power generated by the induction generator
depends on the reactive power absorption. This absorption of reactive power changes according to the inductive
reactance (Xm). This reactance Xm changes with load impedances. Therefore, when the load changes the real power
generated by the induction generator also changes. This results in the change of reactive power. The dynamic model of
the three phase induction motor, modelling of three phase rectifier with RL load and phase-phase connected rectifier
have been analyzed for unbalanced loads. These analyses are simulated for island mode of operation and the results
are compared using MATLAB. Experiments were conducted and the results show that the three phase currents of the
induction generator contains harmonic components and the waveforms are distorted.

Abstract:  Fossil fuels are fast depleting, necessitating the use of renewable energy sources. In this context,
the modern power electronic based electrical and electronic equipment plays a significant role in our day to
day life also the power generation and demand estimation are generally mismatched with the forecasting.
Hence in each and every residence the usage of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) has become essential.
Moreover the storage of electricity is difficult for higher value of ampere hour rating. There is also a problem
of differential costing for the power delivered to the grid by the installed renewable sources and the power
taken from the grid. To avoid this problem, this paper proposes HYBRID UPS system management. This
objective of the system is the proper power balance between the main grid source, PV power system, wind
energy and residential load. The power sharing is automatically regulated by the proposed controller through
proper modelling, simulation and experimental evaluation. This idea can also be extended to fishing trawler

Abstract:  This paper proposes a new control algorithm for communicating and comparing the power
quality related parameters using a Distributed Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) driven by a Space Vector
PWM (SVPWM). The scheme incorporates a self-tuned fuzzy PID controller driving the space vector PWM
for providing a better performance in terms of small overshoots and rise time. Also this scheme ensures a
greater reduction in the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) at the load terminals during nominal operation,
which is not possible using the existing method. For providing faster voltage regulation during voltage
disturbances a Deadbeat predictive controller is built-in with DSTATCOM. A reference voltage is generated
with this algorithm to the DSTATCOM thus reducing the losses at the feeders and maintaining UPF. The
fastest response of DSTATCOM inculcating the above features makes it an efficient solution for improving
the power quality related issues in a distribution system in terms of achieving UPF, voltage sag compensation
and also real and reactive power compensation are discussed in this paper. The effectiveness of the proposed
technique of power quality improvement is validated through detailed simulation and tentative results.

Abstract:  Due to ever increasing demand for electrical power, there is a need to go in for large scale installation
of solar panels and associated electronic converter for augmenting the grid capacity. The solar power can be
conveniently utilized for supplying isolated loads also. In such cases, the DC output of solar photovoltaic (SPV)
system is connected with the load through the power converter. This converter unit has more switching stages
which leads to significant power loss with reduced gain as well as it creates shoot-through problems in inverters.
They are overcome by Z-source network and boost derived hybrid converter. Boost derived hybrid converter
(BDHC) is a single input dual output converter which can connect DC and AC loads simultaneously. This paper
proposes a Z-source network cascaded with the boost derived hybrid converter called z-source boost hybrid
converter (ZSBHC) for SPV application. This proposed converter provides inherent shoot-through, increased
gain, and reduced switching count results in reduced switching losses, high power processing capability and
more reliability. The modeling and the performance analysis of the Z-source boost hybrid converter (ZSBHC)
is validated with simulation results using Mat lab/Simulink software.

Abstract:  A design and implementation of a new Integrated Boost-SEPIC Converter (IBS) is analyzed in
this work. The proposed topology requires only a single power semiconductor switch which will reduce the
voltage stress across diodes and power semiconductor switch while providing a continuous input current.
Further, this topology gives higher voltage gain with low value of duty cycle. The simulation studies are
carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK software tool to analyze the effectiveness of the converter. Results
reveal that, its structure is simple, since the boost converter and the SEPIC converter share a boost inductor
and a switch. Also the proposed converter can provide a continuous output current, smaller output voltage
ripple, and high voltage gain when compared with the conventional SEPIC converter.

Abstract:  Among novel technologies for producing electricity from renewable resources, a new class of
wind energy converters has been conceived under the name of Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWESs).
This new generation of systems employs flying tethered wings or aircraft in order to reach winds blowing
at atmosphere layers that are inaccessible by traditional wind turbines. Research on AWESs started in the
mid-seventies, with a rapid acceleration in the last decade. A number of systems based on radically different
concepts have been analyzed and tested. Several prototypes have been developed all over the world and
the results from early experiments are becoming available. This paper provides a review of the different
technologies that have been conceived to harvest the energy of high-altitude winds. The focus is set on the
hardware architecture of systems that have been demonstrated and tested in real scenarios.

Abstract:  This work focuses on the analysis and design of solar power fed DC-DC Single Ended Primary Inductor
Converter (SEPIC) converter using reduced order GA (Genetic Algorithm) tuned PI (Proportional Integral) controller.
To reduce the complexity in controller design and computational time, the original fourth order model of DC-DC SEPIC
converter is converted into reduced second order model by using Pade’s approximation method. Then the PI Controller
parameters are acquired from the reduced second order model by using GA based optimisation technique. To harvest the
maximum power from the Solar Panel / Photo Voltaic (PV) panel, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) schemes
using Perturbation and Observation (P&O) and Incremental Conductance (IC) methods are attempted. Among the two
methods, IC scheme is chosen due to its high tracking accuracy. Extensive simulation studies have been carried out
by using MATLAB/SIMULINK software tool. Results reveal that proposed control technique can provide excellent
voltage regulation for load variation and can track81%-94 %of the MPPT simultaneously using a single controller.

Abstract:  The renewable energy generation, utilization and its grid penetration in electrical grid are increasing
worldwide. The wind generated power is always fluctuating due to its time varying nature and causing stability
problems. This weak interconnection of wind generating source in the electrical network affects the power
quality and reliability. The influence of the wind turbine in the grid system concerning the power quality
measurements are the active power, reactive power, variation of voltage, flicker, harmonics, and electrical
behavior of switching operation and these are measured according to national, international guidelines. The
UPFC (Unified Power Flow controller) provides reactive power support to wind generator and load. The paper

Abstract:  The major concerns in today’s environment protection is collection and disposal of wastes.
Manual disposal of wastes is more complex, utilize human effort, time and cost. Even unnoticed trash bins
might cause unhygienic disorders to human health. Our proposed system would be helpful to automate the
solid waste monitoring process and management of the overall collection and detection process using IOT.
Whenever the waste bin gets filled up to 80%, the Ultrasonic sensor gets activated and this is acknowledged
by Wi-Fi at the waste bin. This indeed helps in transmitting the signal containing status of the waste bin to
Smart Controlling Hut via internet. This controlling panel will assign the job to the drivers in collecting
the filled bin by sharing the location of the bin via GSM. The detection process is done at the smart bin by
placing two proximity sensors at the bin, one for the detection of metals and other for plastics. In addition to
the project, an automatic door is fixed which helps in closing the bin once it reaches to 80%of wastes.

Abstract:  In order to make electric traction more efficient, environment friendly with improved power quality issues,
we have proposed a three-phase balanced power conditioner system. This three-phase balanced power conditioner system
comprises of a H-bridge converter. H-bridge converter consists of four H-bridge links (H1, H2, H3& H4) and output
filter inductors (L 1& L2). They are connected to the ac feeder lines directly. The Scott traction system is implemented
which can evenly distributes a balanced load between the three phase ac grid. The design specifications includes 440V,
50Hz , three phase ac grid. The detailed power flow of the H-bridge converter as a whole and within individual switches
under unbalanced grid voltages and the power quality issues such as sag and swell are solved by precise management of
power flow. In the past, many multiple or multilevel topologies with high compensation capacities have been introduced
for railway power conditioners. But in this paper, we present a simplified H-bridge power conditioner unit with Scott
traction system aiming for reduced levels of voltage stress and current stress in the power switches, capacitors and
inductors. The simulated voltage and current waveforms of the three phase power conditioning system are presented to
show effective operations of the proposed system. The results are in comparison with laboratory-scaled down version
of hardware.

Abstract - The three phase Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) regenerative converters act as both rectifier and
inverter. The regulation of three phase voltage source rectifier is achieved in many ways. In an open loop
circuit, obtaining regulation is difficult because, when the load varies, the output voltage varies. In order to
maintain a regulated output voltage even when the load varies, the closed loop is attained by means of dq
reference frame theory. The regulated DC output voltage is simulated by MATLAB/Simulink software.

Abstract- Power electronic devices introduce voltage harmonics during integration of renewable energy
sources. The nature of the renewable energy sources has an effect on the system operation that is voltage and
frequency, harmonics and power quality and also influences the overall performance of the power system. A
two-stage cascaded switched-diode (CSD) multilevel inverter is proposed for renewable energy integration.
It can produce more voltage levels with a less number of switches. The main objective is to reduce the number
of switches along with its driver circuit. Thus, the installation area and expenditure of a multilevel inverter
are reduced. By shifting the clock pulse phase of every cascaded unit, the staircase-like output voltage
waveforms are obtained and fluctuations in the dc sources are reduced. The feasibility and performance of
the two-stage CSD multilevel inverter is demonstrated using MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation models.

Abstract:  Solar energy is the most abundant source of energy for all the forms of life on the planet Earth.
It is also the basic source for all the sources of energy except nuclear energy. However, it faces certain
challenges such as high cost, unpredictable nature, need for tracking the solar radiation and maintenance.
This project aims at increasing the efficiency of solar power plant by tracking the intensity of light by
using a Real Time Clock(RTC) and tilting the solar panel according to the preset values and a method of
automatically cleaning the accumulated dust over the panel by using Light Dependent Resistor(LDR). The
system uses a hard brush across its length which moves over the panel and removes the dust accumulated
over it. This project aims mainly to reduce the human involvement in the process of solar panel cleaning as
it is difficult task in a very congested and traffic filled environment.

Abstract:  This paper proposes a new, improved zero-current switched (ZCS) and zero-voltage switched
(ZVS) DC/DC converter with a standard nine level inverter. The proposed converter achieves ZCS turn-on
by implementing coupled-inductors, for their leakage inductance, as well as ZVS turn-off, by employing
a snubber capacitor and diode. Minimal losses through conduction are ensured through the inclusion of a
voltage multiplier and coupled inductors. Continuous conduction method (CCM) is employed, for a duty
cycle greater than 0.5, which ensures that the switching range is not load dependent. The two phase converter
is built entirely without the use of auxiliary switches. A high voltage gain and a simple structure make this
converter novel for renewable energy applications. The nine level inverter used ensures lower total harmonic
distortion, and has an inherent self-voltage balancing ability. The converter/inverter is built to work with a
12V DC input, such as a simple solar panel, and produce a 320V AC output.

Abstract:  Solar photovoltaic (SPV) array based grass cutter is receiving wide attention now a days because
the everlasting solar energy is the best alternative to the conventional energy sources. This paper deals with
the utilization of a buck-boost converter in solar PV array based grass cutter as an intermediate DC-DC
converter between a solar PV array and a voltage source inverter (VSI) in order to achieve the maximum
efficiency of the solar PV array and the soft starting of the permanent magnet brushless DC (BLDC) motor
by proper control. Consisting of a least number of components and single switch, the buck-boost converter
exhibits very good conversion efficiency. Moreover, buck–boost DC–DC converter topology is the only one
allowing follow-up of the PV array maximum power point (MPP) regardless of temperature, irradiance, and
connected load. A BLDC motor is employed to drive a mower because its load characteristic is well matched
to the maximum power locus of the PV generator. The transient, dynamic and steady state behaviors of the
proposed solar PV array powered buck-boost converter fed BLDC motor driven water pumping system are
evaluated under the rapid and slowly varying atmospheric conditions using the sim-power system toolboxes
of the MATLAB/Simulink environment.

Abstract:  There is an increase in power demand for clean and sustainable energy sources, and solar energy
is currently considered to be one of the most abundant sustainable energy source. Photovoltaic solar energy
systems require DC-DC converter in order to regulate and control the varying output of the solar panel.
This paper presents the design and implementation of microcontroller based Cuk power converter and GTO
based inverter. The aim of the paper is to reduce the THD, ripples and also the cost. In conventional type
boost converter and MOSFET switching circuits are used. The software design are oriented towards a single
microcontroller based system, hence minimizing the cost. By this new approach the conversion of solar energy
to electric power using the Cuk converter and inverter made reliable. The designed inverter is used for various
load applications with low power such as lamp, fan etc. The simulation results have been practically verified.

Abstract:  This paper presents an optimal design of robust H2 controller for DC-DC single ended primary inductance
converter (SEPIC) operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM). The converter is modelled using state space
averaging method and the closed loop system is obtained by properly tuning the weight function of proposed
H2 controller and implemented using Mat lab/Simulink software. To study the performance of the proposed H2
controller the closed loop parameter under step change in the input voltage is analyzed with the presence of uncertain
noise in the output end of the converter. The steady state and transient performance of the proposed controller is
compared with the conventional Z-N tuned PI (Proportional – Integral) controller. The results obtained reveals that
the transient performance such as settling time, rise time, peak overshoot and steady state error are greatly reduced
for the proposed robust controller compared to the conventional Z-N tuned PI controller. Moreover, the stability of
the proffered converter with H2 controller is analyzed using Nyquist method of stability.

Abstract:  In this paper, the circuit topology integrates a novel single-switch resonant inverter with zero-voltage
switching (ZVS) with an energy-blocking diode with zero-current switching (ZCS). The energy-blocking diode with
a direct-current output filter filters the output stage of the novel single-switch resonant inverter. Only one active power
switch is used for power energy conversion to reduce the cost of active power switches and control circuits. The
active power switch is controlled by pulse width modulation at a fixed switching frequency and a constant duty cycle.
When the resonant converter is operated at discontinuous conduction mode, the inductor current through the resonant
tank could achieve ZCS of the energy-blocking diode. Accordingly, high energy conversion efficiency is ensured.
Operating principles are derived, and analyses are carried out based on the equivalent circuits for the proposed power
converter under different operating modes. The operating principles of the converter were verified using a 32.4-W
70-kHz experimental photovoltaic-powered load system. Given appropriately chosen circuit parameters, the active
power switch can be operated with ZVS, and a measured energy conversion efficiency of the proposed topology
of 97.3% can be achieved. Experimental results demonstrate a satisfactory performance of the proposed topology,
which is particularly suited to the energy conversion applications in renewable energy generation systems.

Abstract:  The high step up dc– dc converter with three state switching cell and voltage multiplier cells
provide continuous input current with reduced ripples and high voltage .The voltage increases by cascading
several voltage multiplier cells constituted by diodes and capacitors that operates on the resonance principle.
The voltage stress across the elements is reduced due to clamping performed by the output capacitor.
Interleaving allows the operation of the multiplier stages with reduction of the current stress through the
devices and the size of input inductors and capacitors is also drastically reduced.

Abstract:  A simple, cost effective and efficient brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive for solar photovoltaic (SPV)
array fed water pumping system is proposed. A zeta converter is utilized so as to extract the maximum available
power from the Solar PV array. The proposed control algorithm eliminates phase current sensors and adapts a
fundamental frequency switching of the voltage source inverter (VSI), thus avoiding the power losses due to high
frequency switching. Additional control or circuitry is not needed for speed control of the BLDC motor. The speed
control is achieved through a variable DC link voltage of VSI. An appropriate control of zeta converter through
the incremental conductance maximum power point tracking (INC-MPPT) algorithm offers soft starting of the
BLDC motor. The proposed water pumping system is designed and modeled such that the performance is not
affected under dynamic operating conditions. The suitability of proposed system at practical operating conditions
is demonstrated through simulation results using MATLAB/ Simulink followed by an experimental verification.

Abstract:  This paper explores the problems related with distribution system regarding specifically
the voltage sag compensation. To compensate the voltage sag in the distribution side, Distribution Static
compensator (DSTATCOM) in combination with the voltage source converter is used. The voltage sag
problem is caused due to the presence of non-linear loads at the end user. Nowadays non-linear issues
incorporate in both the industrial applications and also in the commercial application, for instance usage of
switch mode power supply causes a harmonics due to non-linear loads at the end user. To avoid the issues
in distribution side, the voltage is injected to the transmission lines. The one of the aim of this model is to
reduce the switch count; we reduce the switch count in to 9, and producing the output of about 5 levels for
line voltage and 7 levels for phase voltages. In this paper, the shunt compensator devices called DSTATCOM
are used to compensate voltage sag issues in the distribution of power supply.

Abstract:  This paper explores the problems in offshore wind systems regarding low power generation and
size of the system. To overcome this problem, we use forward converter with onshore current source inverter.
The input voltage from wind energy conversion systems gets boosted into desired output voltage using
forward DC-DC converter with high frequency based transformer. By using high frequency transformer
based forward converter, the size and weight of the system is reduced. This proposed system is designed to
give robust, effective operation in the system and the obtained voltage gets converted into AC voltage using
current source inverter in onshore. The current source converter gets triggered by PWM pulse which gives
accuracy. This system will provide the optimal solution to linear robust control problems and it carries a low
computational cost.

Abstract:  The primary objective of this work is to permit blind persons to explore autonomously to the
outside environment. Ordinary route navigational systems in the outdoor environment are expensive and its
manufacturing is time consuming. Blind people are at extensive drawback as they regularly do not have the
data which is required, while passing obstacles and dangers. They generally have little information about data
such as land marks, heading and self velocity information that is crucial for them to explore them through new
environment. It is our conviction that advances in innovations could help and encourage these blind persons in
their regular operations. This work goes for giving the route to blind persons, by designing a cost – effective
and more flexible navigation system. Here we are developing a navigation system that makes use of sounds
in order to provide navigation instruction to the user. The conversion of speech into a text is done by a pocket
sphinx and Google API, whereas the text to speech conversion is done by Espeak . Route navigation is taken
care by a Raspberry pi. Ultrasonic sensor is being used for detecting obstacles and a water level sensor is used
for detecting water. We can also get weather update by using this system. MEMS sensor is used to intimate the
user’s friend in case of emergency .The whole system is mounted to a pack that is fitted to a ordinary white
cane. It is light and convenient and it doesn’t obstruct any of the client’s detects while it is being utilized.

Abstract:  In this study, benefits of orthogonal frequency division based on nonlinear amplify and forward
relay systems are examined. OFDM is a modulation technique that utilizes the communication band
efficiently by dividing the high-speed information sequence into parallel arms and lifting the frequency
selectivity of the multi-carrier channel at the same time and using vertically selected carriers at the same
time. Also relay protocol preference is an important issue. Amplify and forward relay system is proper
according to the other relay protocols because it only amplify the signal.

Abstract:  Charging time and power exchange proficiency are the principle difficulties of remote power exchange
for electric vehicles. In this paper, it is proposed to determine both module stationary and charge exchange issues
utilizing the transformer acceptance idea and also versatile automated innovation. A self-sufficient mechanical
arm outfitted with a few sensors is mounted to the vehicle’s undercarriage that conveys an accepting curl. On the
off chance that that the vehicle is stopped in a parking space furnished with remote power transmitters, the robot
will find the accepting loop on the ideal place that is over the transmitting center when the vehicle is stopped.
At the point when the vehicle is driven on a street outfitted with the remote power transmission framework, the
proposed component furnishes the driver with signals that demonstrate the most proficient driving direction. To
accomplish the most extreme proficiency, a progressed numerical versatile calculation in view of the extremum
looking for technique is utilized. Also, silicon carbide metal-oxide semiconductor field-impact transistor is utilized
as a part of energy converter to hold the recurrence as high as conceivable to diminish the charging time. Through
this strategy, the above issues and the issue of vast nonpenetrable air hole and appropriately electromagnetic
impedance are settled; while, the charging time is diminished drastically.

Abstract:  Constant monitoring of patient’s health condition in hospital is either manual or wireless fidelity
(Wi-Fi)-based system. Generally in ICUs, nurses are taking care of abnormalities and the health of the
patient but they may not be available for taking care of patient’s health 24X7, so sometimes in absence of
care taker may exacerbate the condition. So in order to extirpate these critical conditions, we have proposed
a system which is an application of Li-Fi network in the hospital for monitoring the patient’s conditions
such as temperature, pressure, heartbeat, using respective sensors. Li-Fi is a new paradigm for short range
wireless technology to provide unprecedented connectivity within a localized data centric environment. The
technology works by adapting light emitting diode (LED’s) to send digital type of information, invisible to
the Human eye. If any abnormality has been detected, it automatically alert the In charge. This safety system
can be used in automation of hospitals, houses etc. The advantage of this automated detection/alarm system
is that it offers faster response time and accurate detection of an emergency in turn leading to faster diffusion
of the situation, compared to manual methods. This is a very compelling reason that justifies designing such
a safety system.

ABSTRACT-Mobility encompasses an individuals ability to move his or her body within an environment or between
environments and the ability to manipulate objects. Collectively, these activities enable the individual to pursue life
activities of their choosing. An individuals ability to perform any mobility task can be compromised by impaired
body functions or structures. The proposed system mainly focuses on the transfemoral type. Above-knee amputation
(AKA), or transfemoral amputation, in which both the knees are amputated above the knee joint. The surgeon shapes
the remaining limb to allow thebest use of a prosthetic leg after recovery. But not everyone is capable to use prosthetic
legs as they have their own concerns. The proposed system aims to develop a mobility system for such persons with
system clearance nearly 6 inches from ground level, at standstill, so that the amputees can use their hands to get onto
the system and perform transition without the help of the caretaker. Horizontal and vertical transitions are included
into the system. The horizontal transition is realized using wheels controlled by an electric motor (Wheel Hub Motor)
at constant speed. At standstill condition the amputees can elevate themselves using vertical transition. This aids them
in performing needful activities at a considerable height above the ground level. Vertical movement is implemented
using scissor lift technique actuated by an electric motor (PMDC Motor). Vertical transition height is restricted to two
feet in order to ensure the safety.

Abstract:  India is an agrarian country with more than 60% of its population depends on agriculture either
directly or indirectly. The current agricultural practices need to intensify the rate of food crop production for the
rate of population growth with available resources. Water Scarcity is a major problem in India. To solve such
problems, this paper proposes a new methodology that uses a solar based wireless soil moisture sensor network
that checks the moisture content of the soil, based on that pumping motor will automatically pump water into field
with mobile tracking and control facility. It also provides periodic updates of the soil quality. The main aim of the
system presented here is to monitor the moisture content in the soil in the cultivating field. Based on soil moisture,
pumping motor will be automatically operated this saves the water at the same time and on the other hand the crop
can get optimum level of water, eventually increasing crop productivity. In addition to this, a new methodology
is proposed to handle flood conditions and maintain ground water table for agriculture. Furthermore, an array of
sensors is used to check crop growth and quality. Non contact ultrasonic sensors is used for pest control

ABSTRACT:  “Survival” is considered to be the primary objective of a human being and security is the one of
the required measure that is required for surviving. Security is a state of being free from threat or danger. In the
world requiring security in everything, there was a breakthrough when home security systems were developed.
However, these systems are in the beginning of their development and are not still fully automated. Though the
development will take years down the lane, it can still be improved by providing more security by detecting the
motion of objects and processing the image obtained by the camera. One such way to provide security is by using
a simple camera with motion sensor embedded with it. In addition to this, thermal imager is provided which is
able to distinguish the temperature difference between various objects under different environmental condition.
The system is also made to interfere with the user using GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) making
it user-friendly since the changes observed is processed and intimated to the user. The main aim of the proposed
system is to prevent the intrudance of a burglar and also to avoid false alarm.

Abstract:  In recent years, power converters are used to improve the power factor. Majority of the applications
involving electronic circuitry requires a regulated DC supply. Since the commonly available supply is AC, a
suitable AC-DC converter becomes mandatory. The AC-DC converters involve a number of non-linear devices
which introduces harmonics in the power system leading to adverse effects like reduction in power factor (PF),
more power losses results in low efficiency. So in order to improve the PF, the Power Factor Correction (PFC)
method is employed. This paper investigates various power converter topologies like Boost, Buck-Boost, Forward
and Flyback for PFC. Simulation is carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Performance parameters like Total
Harmonic Distortion (THD), Power Factor (PF), Distortion Factor (DF) and Displacement Factor are computed
and a comparative analysis is made between them.

Abstract:  Among the emerging power converters, Zeta converter has its own advantages such as stable
output response with only fewer transients, low circuit losses and provides non-inverted output. In this paper,
the performance of Zeta converter with Model Predictive controller (MPC) is analyzed. Zeta converter is a DC-
DC converter, operates in step down or step up mode depending upon the duty cycle. The benefits of the Zeta
converter over the SEPIC converter include lower output-voltage ripple and easier compensation. Here, Zeta
converter is designed in continuous conduction mode. Then, Model predictive controller(MPC) is implemented
in the closed loop mode for better voltage regulation and a comparative study on the performance indices like
overshoot, settling time, steady state error of the converter with MPC controller is compared with Proportional
Integral (PI) controller. The simulations have been performed using MATLAB/Simulink. From the comparative
study, it is inferred that the performance of Zeta converter with MPC controller is better than PI Controller.

Abstract:  Most of the agriculture irrigational systems uses three phase induction motor because of its low
cost, rugged construction and less maintenance. The main objective of this work includes, in the absence
of one phase of three phase supply, the three phase induction motor operates with the available other two
phases and the third phase is supplied by the capacitor. It requires a manual switching of motor terminals
and the operating personal need knowledge about switching. This project eliminates the problem of manual
switching by automatically sensing the available phases and then switching the capacitor to supply the
third phase. Here a reliable protection scheme has been designed for a three phase induction motor against
unbalanced voltages, under voltage, over voltage and over current.

Keywords: Three phase induction motor, manual switching of motor terminals.

Abstract:  Normally premature neonates and infants are sensitive to pain due to external stress and environmental
interventions when they are away from their mother. This will lead to increase in both behavioural and physiological
stress for the infants. Pharmacological treatment is available but it depends on the administration of drug and therapy
given to an infant. To overcome these issues an innovative non-pharmacological treatment is adopted using maternal
characteristics. Present work aims at providing comfort to the infants that suffer from pain, by providing solutions
through maternal characteristics obtained using sensors. It also in reverse sense the baby cries by sound sensor and
transfer this information to the mother for necessary care. The system architecture consists of suitable sensors for
monitoring vital parameters, a microcontroller and GSM interface. This involves a non-invasive technique, based
on the GSM network embedded with wireless sensing and processing device. The communication is done through
Short Message Service (SMS) to indicate the status of the infant to the mother. The proposed system will absolutely
reduce the discomfortness of an infant by transferring the maternal pulse via the bed. This makes the infants feels like
as if they are close to their mother and their health condition is also monitored, with the help of an intelligent bed.

Abstract:  The use of smart parking systems has become very essential especially for metropolitan areas.
As the urban population is increasing, more and more cars plying on the roads, search for suitable parking
spaces which results in heavy traffic congestion. Conventional parking lots are presently handled human
beings to assess the current capacity of a parking lot. To alleviate the parking problems, smart parking
systems must be implemented. In this project, an automated car parking system using microcontroller is
proposed. The available slots for parking are displayed on a LCD display by using IR sensors installed at the
entrance and exit. The capacity will be checked dynamically, and the gate opens only if there is a space in
the parking lot. A similar check is done every time a car exits the parking lot. Personnel cost can be reduced
considerably using this technology.

Abstract:  This study focus on development of Probability density functions for arrivals of cargo vessels
served at a port handling multiple commodities. In order to investigate the distribution patterns of cargo
ships, units of observation were broken into arrivals at berth levels and for the whole port. The vessel
intervals play a crucial role in determining the Cargo port performance levels. The frequency of a particular
category of cargo vessels arrival might influence resource requirements at port berths. Queue system,
level of infrastructure and priority levels built in the system, charges levied for berthing and overstaying
(demurrage), paper handling procedure of the port were the influencing factors, which affect the arrivals of a
particular type of cargo. An attempt was made to observe, analyse and to fit the goodness-of-tests for vessel
arrivals pertaining to an individual berth of a multi-commodity port; Probability density functions (PDFs)
for the observed arrivals of vessels were developed. Also, simulation of port queuing system was performed
to study the effect of service rates on arrivals and the results had been reported.

Abstract:  This paper presents a study on performance of polycrystalline type of solar Photovolatic (PV) cell under
variable environmental conditions namely variations in temperature, irradiance and wind flow. The PV cell is modeled
with the help of mathematical equations using Matlab/Simulink software. The developed model was tested using
simulation, with data regarding environmental conditions from three locations namely Chennai, Ooty and Kanyakumari
in Tamil Nadu. These data pertain to varying irradiance, wind speed and temperature. To maximize the output, an
MPPT based DC-DC Cuk converter was used. The results reveal that the polycrystalline type of material outperforms in
Chennai than Ooty and Kanyakumari. This study would help to identify the proper locations for installing solar panels.

Keywords: MPPT, Cuk converter.

Abstract:  This paper presents a graph theory approach based optimization for placement of Phasor Measurement
Unit (PMU) using Binary Genetic Algorithm (BGA). PMU is considered as a promising tool in wide area monitoring,
protection and control of power system networks. The optimal PMU placement (OPP) problem is formulated as a
minimization function to minimize the number of PMUs installed for complete network observability, considering
maximum measurement redundancy at the power system buses. To reduce the computational burden and to save
the memory space in forming the connectivity matrix, graph theory based approaches such as Depth-First Search,
Breadth-First Search and Minimum Spanning Tree were used. The proposed method is implemented for two possible
cases namely (1) without conventional measurement and (2) Islanding condition. The feasibility is tested on IEEE
14-bus, IEEE 30-bus and Tamil Nadu grid system using Matlab Software. The results obtained from the proposed
graph theory approach based OPP using BGA is compared with the conventional binary integer linear programming
(BILP). The results reveal that the proposed method reduces the number of PMUs and maximizes the measurement
redundancy, ensuring the complete observability of the power system.

ABSTRACT:  The Landsman converter based on power factor correction (PFC) in bridgeless (BL)
configuration feeding a Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM) drive is proposed. The motor is fed by a Voltage
source Inverter (VSI) with an AC-DC converter with power factor correction (PFC) as the VSI’s predecessor.
The front-end bridgeless PFC based Landsman converter operating in the Discontinuous Inductor Current
Mode (DICM) is used for controlling the DC link voltage and PFC is attained naturally with reduced
conduction losses and switch stress. The designed PFC converter results in an improved power quality at
AC mains. Fuzzy logic is implemented for improving the power factor. The VSI is used as an electronic
commutator for BLDC Motor.
