Installation instructions

Installation instructions

Danger!
Read the manual carefully before installation and commencing
the start-up checks.

Danger!
Crushing risk! Never walk beneath or close to suspended loads.
Ensure that all lifting equipment used is in good condition,
adapted for the purpose and dimensioned for the weight of the
head.

Danger!
Dismantle the saw chain before starting installation and start-up
checks.

Danger!
Inspecting and adjusting pressure settings requires a person
to remain within the reach of the head when the head is
pressurised.

For this reason, this work may only be carried out by people who
are very familiar with the function and design of the head.

The person in the carrier’s cab must be very familiar with the
operation of both the carrier and the head.

Warning!
When connecting and disconnecting the pressure gauge, the
head’s hydraulic system must be depressurised.

Warning!
The head’s hydraulic system is fitted with accumulators.
Pressure may remain in the system for some time after the
pressure supply has been interrupted.

15
Installation instructions

Important!
Installation, start-up checks and delivery service on heads may only be
carried out by technicians possessing the requisite knowledge.

Installation instructions
Before starting installation. Check that the head is undamaged on delivery.

Affix the supplied safety stickers regarding the 90 metre risk zone, clearly
visible on the carrier’s crane.

Cleaning the carrier’s and the installation kit’s hydraulic hoses

Before installing the head, the hydraulic hoses on the carrier and the
installation kit must be cleaned as follows:

1. Connect the pressure and return hoses with suitable adapters.

2. Connect the carrier’s drainage hose to the head.
3. If the rotator is operated from a valve on the carrier and new hydraulic
hoses are fitted, these are also connected with suitable adapters.
4. Start the carrier, activate the hydraulic pump (for example by activating
the head close function) and let it run for around 3 minutes at working
speed.
5. If point 3 applies: also run the rotator function for around 3 minutes.
6. Turn off the carrier.

Connecting the head to the carrier

Danger!
When connecting the head to the carrier, the carrier must
be turned off, the start key removed and the main power
disconnected.

16
Installation instructions

Warning!
The hydraulic hoses used when installing the head on the carrier
must be dimensioned for the hydraulic pressure to which they
will be subjected.

Hydraulic hoses that are designed to withstand pressures of

more than 150 bar must not be installed with reusable hydraulic
couplings. Hydraulic couplings that require special processing,
such as crimping, are not considered to be reusable hydraulic
couplings.

1. Install the head on the carrier’s crane arm.

Important!
Use the correct class of screws and nuts when installing the rotator. Pay
attention to the rotator manufacturer’s instructions.

For recommended dimensions of connection hoses, see "Installation

settings"

2. Connect the pressure, return and any stump treatment and rotator
hoses to the head using suitable adapters.
3. Connect the carrier’s electrical wiring to the head module.

Important!
The control system to which the head is connected must satisfy at least
PLd according to EN ISO 13849-1:2016.

See wiring diagram and the control system’s manual for further
information.

Instructions for start-up checks

The start-up checks are performed to verify that all settings are correct and
that the installation has been performed correctly.

They indicate where on the warranty card the relevant information must be
completed.

The following checks must be conducted with the carrier’s engine running
at working speed, and with a hydraulic oil temperature of at least 40ºC.

17
Installation instructions

Note!
Adjustment of settings in the start-up checks is performed on
the carrier, in the carrier’s control system or in the head’s control
system. See the relevant manual for further information.

Carrier’s working speed

Check the carrier’s working speed and note this on the warranty card by
point 1, Working speed.

Check the main pressure from the carrier.

Important!
The hydraulic pressure from the carrier must not exceed the maximum
permitted hydraulic pressure for the head, see “Installation settings”.

Park the head in a tilted down position with the crane fully extended in the
carrier’s most stable direction.

Carrier with one working pressure level

1. Disconnect the main power to the carrier and remove the key.
2. Open the protective cover on the head and disconnect the electric
cable for the tilt up function.
3. Connect a pressure gauge with a suitable measurement range to the
head’s measurement point for main pressure.
4. The person reading off the pressure gauge must be located outside the
reach of the carrier and the head.
5. Start the carrier and operate it at working speed.
6. Lift the head.
7. Activate the head close function.
8. Set the correct hydraulic pressure from the carrier according to the
table in “Installation settings”. Note the hydraulic pressure on the
warranty card at point 2, “High pressure”.
9. Operate the carrier at idle.
10. Set the correct standby pressure from the carrier according to the table
in “Installation settings”. Note the hydraulic pressure on the warranty
card at point 2, “Standby pressure”.
11. Lower the head.
12. Turn off the carrier.
13. Disconnect the pressure gauge.
