KINDS OF GRAPH

Graph - can be defined as a pictorial representation or a diagram that represents data

or values in an organized manner. The points on the graph often represent the relationship
between two or more things.

Types of Graph

1. Bar Chart or Bar Graph -  is a chart or graph that presents categorical data with
rectangular bars with heights or lengths proportional to the values that they
represent. The bars can be plotted vertically or horizontally. A vertical bar chart is
sometimes called a column chart.

Example of Bar Chart or Graph:

2. Pie Chart or Pie Graph – is a circular chart which is divided into sectors in which
the area of each sector represents the size of the data. It is also known as circle
graph.

Example:
3. Line Graph/Line Chart/Line Plot or Curve Chart – is a type of chart which
displays information as a series of data points called “markers” connected by
straight line segments . It is a basic type of chart common in many fields.

4. Histogram Chart – a diagram consisting of rectangles whose area is

proportional to the frequency of a variable and whose width is equal to the class
interval.

5. Area Chart or Area Graph – displays graphically quantitative data. It is based on

the line chart. The area between axis and line are commonly emphasized with
colors, textures and hatchings.
6. Dot Graph or Plot Graph – is a type of simple histogram-like chart used in
statistics for relatively small data sets where values fall into a number of discrete
bins (categories). A dot plot is a graphical display of data using dots.

7. Pictograph – is a way of showing data using images. Each image stands for a
certain number of things.
