Etech Script

The document is a script for a podcast discussing how empowerment technologies or etech became one of the speaker's favorite subjects. Some key points: 1) Etech is an interesting subject because it balances science, art, and practical application - you can learn and apply concepts to real world problems like creating websites about scientific topics. 2) When making informative websites, the artistic side is important for attracting visitors - the information must be easily digestible through design elements like organization and navigability. 3) Starting a basic website through a tool like Google Sites makes it easy to raise awareness and potentially contribute to social change.

: is the mic working?
: Yeahh, we can hear you.
: ohh, okay okay, cool cool cool. Iiiiiii guess we're good to go.

: Good day, everyone. I am Alaine Paul Geronimo and you're listening to Paul's
podcast. Or as I like to call it, "Paulcast". Get it? Cause you know, cuz i
replaced the pod with paul and so it's like a play on words. Moving on.

: epic intro bg music

: What's up everyone? For today's episode of Paul's Podcast, I'll be talking about
how empowerment technologies or etech became one of my most favorite subjects this
semester and how it gave me plenty of insights regarding ICT as a tool for social
change. One of the evidences i have is that my highest grade in all of the subjects
in the first semester was etech.

: one of the things that caught my interest with Etech is how it is a SCIENCE and
an ART, but also a PRACTICAL subject. Not all subjects have an equal balance of
these three things, you know. Some are more scientific, some are more artistic, and
most are impractical unless you're able to see past its uses, but in etech, you can
learn and apply lots of things outside the subject such as creating websites
regarding scientific information. You know? You could write an article or essay
about a scientific topic, let's say regarding the COVID-19 virus. You could make it
into a website and say, "hey. This topic is relevant and timely. We need to be
informed about this and so, here is my website for you.", catch my drift?

: And how do you do this? How-- do you attract people in visiting your website and
making them informed? That's where the artistic side of etech comes in, it's not
just all about coding and programs and information overload, it's also about making
your website easily digestible; easily readible; easily memorable and easily
feasible.

: And how do you do this? Well, you go back to the basics of art, and how do these
elements of art blend well together that makes it pleasing to the eye. So let's say
for example, COVID, right? Let's say you want to show them what covid looks like
and what effects these could bring. You dont just list them down and describe using
blocks of text and expect the common people to understand it right away. You take
the bigger picture, and divide into smaller pieces. That way, it makes it easier
for readers to catch your message. Right? You make the website easily navigatable
and organized into different pages. So there could be like, a page regarding the
origins of the virus, then there could a page regarding what effects has the virus
brought upon society, and then maybe a seperate page regarding the vaccines which
are currently under research in battling against the virus, and so you divide the
information into chunks, and then compile it for the readers to analyze them one by
one, and so it's not an overload of facts, but an eventual-loading of facts.

: One of the most interesting things that caught my interest wass how easy it was
to start a website. You know, you could just open your browser; go to google drive
and make a google website, and then develop it into a website that aims to bring
social change, and what better way to start social change, than by beginning with
awareness. Not only has etech taught me how to open a website, but how to open the
minds of the people who have the potential to contribute to change, and that is
social change. There is so much that could be done if only every single one of us
is educated and has decent digital literacy, not everyone is digitally literate.
You have the boomers or the people who weren't born in the age of digital
technology; you have the children who don't get to go to school every day and start
working at a very young age, and then you have those who are underprivileged and
don't have access to the resources such as the internet and mobile devices. And so,
it's hard to make sure that every single human in the planet is able to utilize
technology in order to make their lives easier, it's hard to bring equity to a
world where it's run by mostly corrupt and power-hungry leaders. But it's not
impossible, and it's not unimaginable. We just have to start with an idea-- it
doesn't have to be perfect-- work on it; see if there are any errors; and if there
are, we fix those errors and enhance our ideas until a new error comes up. Errors
are constantly arising becaese the only constant thing in the world is change. And
so if we want to make our lives more comfortable and convenient, we have to adapt
to it.

going back to errors, how do we identify these errors? Well, we start by gathering
feedback, but from who? From the people who are your target audience or target
beneficiaries. Not all websites are perfect. Not everything on the internet is
correct or accurate. However, it's better to start 20% of your work and finish 80%
of your tasks than doing 0% of your work and finishing 0% of your tasks. After
making that 20% of work, we could just enhance it or build-up on it by moving into
21%, and then 22%, or maybe even just 22.1%, it doesn't matter, as long as it keeps
on improving. As long as there is progress, there is change. And where there is
change, there is hope.

Again, I'm Alaine Paul Geronimo, and you're listening to Paul's podcast or paul
cast. Signing off.
