Introduction To prevent paint damage during transportation, the 2004 model year RAV4 roof rack
cross bars are kept inside the vehicle so that the Rapgardt protective film can remain
in place on the roof panel. Please install the roof rack cross bars to the roof rack rails
according to the following procedure during Pre--Delivery Service (PDS).

NOTE:
The shape of the cross bar tightening knobs have been changed to improve the ease
of tightening. A “FRONT” stamp has been added to the cross bar in front of the
direction arrow mark to clarify the proper installation direction.

Applicable S 2004 model year RAV4 vehicles built AFTER the Production Change Effective VINs
Vehicles shown below.

3. Position cross bar ends so that the

If the knobs are not tightened securely,
the knobs may come loose and rattle,
or possibly fall off the vehicle.

4. Install the right and left rear roof rack


leg covers as shown. (A)

A. Insert the tab at the front of the


cover into the roof rack rail.
B. Place the cover on the leg and
align the rear part of the cover. (D)
Do not press down. (B)

C. Press the cover claws facing the Rear

D. Press the cover claws facing the
inside of the vehicle into place.

NOTE:
Do NOT press the claws facing the
outside of the vehicle at the same time
as pressing the claws facing the
inside. The leg cover may be damaged.

E. Check that the cover is


installed securely.
