1. Method Statement for Rusting repair on steel shades

2. SCOPE OF WORK
- This method statement defines the activities and the sequences which are to be carried out
for the removal of rust on anchor bolt, plates and any steel shades structures in
accordance with the requirements specified in the relevant manufacturer’s instructions
and project requirements.
- This method statement applies for all the rusts in steel shades executed in AD Port
Landscaping works
2.1 General Description
- This procedure is provided to ensure that fundamental checks and good working practices
in all structure’s works are followed in conformance with the contract requirements.
- Before commencement any activity the Engineer must be notified.
- Ensure that material, sample have been submitted as per the specification and approved by
the Engineer.
2.2 Plant and Equipment
- Leveling instrument.
- Compressor
- Painting Gun
- Hand cleaning brushes
- Paint rollers and with/Handles
- Mechanical paint mixer
- DFT gauge

2.3 Materials
- Anchor Bolt
- Zinc Bright Spray
- Grease Tape
- Grouting material
- Chipping Machine
- Emery paper / Sandpaper
- Wire brush, shovel, chisel, hand tools

2.3a PERFECT METAL SURFACE - ZINC SPRAY:

- This The products Zinc Spray Perfect and Zinc Spray Light Perfect contain zinc, and
therefore offer optimum, active cathodic protection against corrosion. If the surface is
damaged, the zinc coating sacrifices itself (sacrifi cial anode) and therefore protects the
metal against rust.
2.3b Penguard Primer:
- This is a two component, polyamide cured, high molecular weight epoxy coating. Designed
as a primer for new construction. Can be used as primer as a part of a complete system in
atmospheric and immersed environments. Suitable for properlyprepared carbon steel,
stainless steel, aluminum, concrete, galvanized steel, shop primed steel and thermally
sprayed zinc substrates
2.3c Penguard Primer:
This is a two component polyamide cured epoxy coating. It has a glossy finish with fair
gloss retention. To be used as topcoat in atmospheric environments.

2.4 Site planning & Preparation

- All works shall be controlled as per the Safety procedures. Safety equipment will be worn
at all times. Site Engr /Supervisor will check and ensure all safety precautions are taken
prior to commencement of work.
- Necessary material to be used will be checked and declared to approving personnel prior
to start.
- Survey point level if necessary, will be verified according to AD ports requirements.
- Ensure that Material submittal, sample and Method Statement approved by the Engineer.
- Ensure that there is no water present, debris & other foreign materials to that before
rectification
- Ensuring approved PTW covers proposed activity at site.
- In case of any damage to asset will be communicated to Facility Management team at
project location

2.5 Work Methodology

Bolts and Base Plate Grouting

- Exposed the top of concrete steel shade foundations by removing the pavers on
hardscape and manual excavation on softscape areas.
- Clean any debris and soil around the foundation
- Rusted and dust anchor bolts shall be clean with wire brush
- Spray the bolt with Zinc Bright Wurth
- Inspection will be requested to client right after spraying
- Bolt will be covered with grease tape.
- Foundation area will be roughened using chipped off.
- Formworks will be installed for grout placement
- Grouting to be done at least 5mm to the plates

Nuts and Washers removal

- In every plate, each nuts and washers will be gradually removed to avoid falling of steel
shade posts.
- Nuts and washers including upper bolts will be cleaned wire brush and sprayed Zinc Bright
Wurth

Pre-Coating Preparation
- Clean the pre-coated area as marked by painting supervisor/QC Engineer. After cleaning
the surfaces shall be kept free from oil, grease, dirt etc. until the touchup/coating has
been applied
- The Painting supervisor shall check and ensure that all the pre painting activities &
mentioned touchup area is very clean and ready to paint
Painting Application on Steel Structures

- Every possible precaution shall he taken to ensure that the damaged surface(s) shall be
thoroughly clean, dry, and free from condensation, moisture, dust, oil grease, rust, dirt
and other contaminants before the application of the touch-up/repair processes.
- Blast cleaning and coating shall not be conducted when the surfaces are less than 3 °C
above dew point or when the relative humidity of the air is greater than 85%.
- Any coating found to be incorrectly applied shall be removed and recoated to the
approved paint submittal requirement.
- Surface preparation, whenever possible, shall be carried out by dry blast-cleaning. Where
dry blast cleaning is not feasible due to limited access, risk of damage to equipment, light
gauge steel, proximity to electrical or instrumentation components, hand or power tool
cleaning shall be applied. This shall be followed by solvent cleaning prior to coating.
- Where the damaged surface being repaired lies adjacent to a previously coated surface,
the cleaning shall extend to the surrounding coating by a minimum of 40 mmon all sides
or as per the section size and the edges shall be "chamfered" to ensure continuity of the
patch coating.
- Appropriate protection, shields or screens shall be used to cover the remainder of
the previously coated surface to prevent any possibility of damage to or
contamination of the coating before starting any repair work.
- Any coating found inadvertently applied to areas where it is not required e.g.
machined or polished surfaces, surface of stainless steel or non-ferrous alloys,
nameplates, manufacturers identification tags, instruments and instrument
glasses, sight glasses, control valve stem, high friction grip bolt assemblies, etc.
shall be hand wiped clean with thinner or cleaner while the coating is still wet or
rubbed down with fine sand paper if it is dry and restored to their original
surface condition.
- 1 layers of Zinc Spray & 1 layer of primer & one layer of top coat will applied as
perpaint technical data/specification of project or client requirement & DFT
will show/ mention on site.
- DFT for one coat of Zinc Spray(30-40micron) and for primer (70-80micron)
and forTop Coat (65-75 micron).
- The use of machine for touch-up/repair on localized damaged surfaces where
propercoating application is not feasible may be used upon company approval.
Reinstating around Steel Shades
- All hardscape and softscape around steel shades to be reinstated to acceptable
quality standard in accordance to drawing and project requirements.
- Steel Structures will be installed in correct verticality and levels to be adjusted in
required areas in line with the quality and approved shop drawings.

2.6 Organization, Responsibility & Supervision

- Project Manager is responsible for the implementation of Method Statement & Risk,
Assessment and ensure that the key personnel are well aware of the Method Statement
and resources like Manpower, Material, and Equipment are available to carry out the
works as planned.

procedures and shall ensure that conduct tool box meeting before the execution of works.
- Surveyor shall ensure that setting out carried out with theodolite, Total station and
dumpy level and that all the survey related works carried out as per the approved
drawings& Required Line Levels.
- Painting Supervisor is The Painting supervisor shall check and ensure that all the pre
painting activities & mentioned touchup area is very clean and ready to paint. Taking
clearance from concerned QC Engineer to make sure that the equipment and touch up
mentioned area is safe and ready
