for the removal of rust on anchor bolt, plates and any steel shades structures in
accordance with the requirements specified in the relevant manufacturer’s instructions
and project requirements.
- This method statement applies for all the rusts in steel shades executed in AD Port
Landscaping works
2.1 General Description
- This procedure is provided to ensure that fundamental checks and good working practices
in all structure’s works are followed in conformance with the contract requirements.
- Before commencement any activity the Engineer must be notified.
- Ensure that material, sample have been submitted as per the specification and approved by
the Engineer.
2.2 Plant and Equipment

Pre-Coating Preparation
- Clean the pre-coated area as marked by painting supervisor/QC Engineer. After cleaning
the surfaces shall be kept free from oil, grease, dirt etc. until the touchup/coating has
been applied
- The Painting supervisor shall check and ensure that all the pre painting activities &
mentioned touchup area is very clean and ready to paint
Painting Application on Steel Structures
- Every possible precaution shall he taken to ensure that the damaged surface(s) shall be
thoroughly clean, dry, and free from condensation, moisture, dust, oil grease, rust, dirt
and other contaminants before the application of the touch-up/repair processes.
- Blast cleaning and coating shall not be conducted when the surfaces are less than 3 °C
above dew point or when the relative humidity of the air is greater than 85%.
- Any coating found to be incorrectly applied shall be removed and recoated to the
approved paint submittal requirement.
- Surface preparation, whenever possible, shall be carried out by dry blast-cleaning. Where
dry blast cleaning is not feasible due to limited access, risk of damage to equipment, light
gauge steel, proximity to electrical or instrumentation components, hand or power tool
cleaning shall be applied. This shall be followed by solvent cleaning prior to coating.
- Where the damaged surface being repaired lies adjacent to a previously coated surface,
the cleaning shall extend to the surrounding coating by a minimum of 40 mmon all sides
or as per the section size and the edges shall be "chamfered" to ensure continuity of the
patch coating.
- Appropriate protection, shields or screens shall be used to cover the remainder of
the previously coated surface to prevent any possibility of damage to or
contamination of the coating before starting any repair work.
- Any coating found inadvertently applied to areas where it is not required e.g.
machined or polished surfaces, surface of stainless steel or non-ferrous alloys,
nameplates, manufacturers identification tags, instruments and instrument
glasses, sight glasses, control valve stem, high friction grip bolt assemblies, etc.
shall be hand wiped clean with thinner or cleaner while the coating is still wet or
rubbed down with fine sand paper if it is dry and restored to their original
surface condition.
- 1 layers of Zinc Spray & 1 layer of primer & one layer of top coat will applied as
perpaint technical data/specification of project or client requirement & DFT
will show/ mention on site.
- DFT for one coat of Zinc Spray(30-40micron) and for primer (70-80micron)
and forTop Coat (65-75 micron).
- The use of machine for touch-up/repair on localized damaged surfaces where
propercoating application is not feasible may be used upon company approval.
Reinstating around Steel Shades
- All hardscape and softscape around steel shades to be reinstated to acceptable
quality standard in accordance to drawing and project requirements.
- Steel Structures will be installed in correct verticality and levels to be adjusted in
required areas in line with the quality and approved shop drawings.
- Project Manager, Site Supervisor, Foreman, Surveyor, painting crew, painting supervisor
Skilled worker and helper will be available depend upon the site requirements.
- Prior to the commencement of work, arrangement shall be made for medical facilities and
medical personnel to be available for prompt attention to the injured person.
