EMPLOYEE / JOB EVALUATION

A commonly used method to establish a pay scale of a company is Job Evaluation or Employee Evaluation.
This help determines the wage and salary structure for the organization. Thus, how much certain position must
be paid in relation to the other position. This involves an analysis of the job contents or requirements ( eg.
education, skills, physical demand, risk exposure, complexity ) assessment of monetary equivalent to these job
factors to arrive at the money value of each job.
A criteria on a point system is determined and identified on the factors required in a position and
responsibilities.

Methods of Job Evaluation

1. The point method - requires the evaluator to quantify the value of the elements of a job taken by the
employee.
2. Comparison Method - uses factor-by-factor comparison and as a result , a factor comparison scale is
used. To evaluate, factors considered are : responsibility, skills, physical effort, mental effort, and
working conditions.
3. Classification method - jobs are grouped together in sets of grades or classification, such a clerical or
managerial.
4. Ranking Method - evaluator assigns ranks to the job performed by employee from the simplest to the
most challenging. This is convenient to small organizations since they have fewer jobs than the larger
organization.

Evaluating the performance of employees ( managerial or otherwise ) decisions will be acted based on the
results. This offer a positive effect or opposite on the other way around.
The following will impact movement of personnel in the organization :
1. Monetary rewards - given to employees whose performance are at par or above standard
requirements.
2. Promotion - refers to the movement by a person into a position of higher pay and greater
responsibilities and which is given as a reward for competence.
3. Transfer - This is the movement of a person to a different job at the same time or similar level of
responsibility in the organization.
4. Demotion - this is the movement from one position to another which has less pay and responsibility
attached to it.
5. Separation - when an employee performance fails to produce a positive results.
